Little bit of playoff hope

Post#1 » by supaflash » Thu Apr 11, 2013 5:30 am

Someone posted this in the game thread and I had to add to it.

started off
17-25

since then
25-12

If we make it in we will likely be
28-12!

which is .70% right on pace with OKC and SA and would have been around 57-58 wins.

now take out the back to backs we'd be
25-6 in this stretch which is .80% and there with the Heat

we'd be
37-27 right now without back to backs on the season as a whole which is .57%

Ain't no back to backs in the playoffs...

It's a dream but if we get in, we can play with anyone imo. With healthy Kobe, Pau, Dwight and hopefully Nash and Metta get up to speed... we got a shot...

I say this is a LITERALlY true test for the effectiveness of the lakers in the playoffs:

We sweep these four difficult games
Portland at rose garden
Gs
San
Houston

We can beat anyone in the playoffs. I say bring on okc. Lets be a man and face up to anyone. None of this shifting musical chairs to avoid so and so. Lets go and beat the best. And I believe we can beat the best.

If we lose one or any of those four and get left out at ninth place...
Well then we didn't deserve it and better to cut our losses and just don't prolong the suffering and fraud of a season.

It is only black and white now.

But here's the thing you left out. We haven't beaten any of those elite teams on any regular fashion.

This team has a weak mentality. And tbh I've been watching this team for more than ten years and they've never had that "i will take the challenge and fight" mentality. I rather face a weaker opponent, the spurs. At least we have some advantages them.

Our record vs above .500 isnt' great but we've played well against most good teams except for Denver and the Clips. We've beat the Thunder and we know we can slow it down and play them tight, especially now that Pau and Dwight are clicking and Earl is back in gear.

We played the Spurs very well and lost both games on late shots when we weren't even gelled yet.

We've beat Memphis and we know we can slow down and bang with them.

We beat both NY and Indy

We played Miami close in both games.

And the majority of those games came before we were playing our best.

Denver beat us up pretty bad BUT we did beat them early and we played BOTH games in Denver on the end of the back to back... Along with Gallinari going down and Lawson not 100%, we can play with them.

The Clips are the team that has flat owned us this year. The one redeeming thing about that is it would basically be 7 home games so anything is possible and it slowing down in the playoffs changes things. They've had guys have big games against us that typically tighten up in the playoffs *cough* Barnes *cough*

We can beat anyone honestly, the circumstances are actually lining up about the best they could all things considered. IF we make it we will be truly battle tested and playoff ready. I don't know if I could have said that the last few years.

Over the past 2 months the Lakers are:

9 - 2 against non playoff teams. (5 of those wins are against New Orleans (2), Sacramento (2) and Orlando. Arguably 3 of the 5 worst teams in the NBA.

4 - 5 against playoff teams (3 of those 4 wins at home).

As a Suns fan, let me tell you, the problem in D-Antoni. You guys are suffering from the same crap that kept us from getting a ring during the days when we had Amare, Nash, Marion, and Joe Johnson all in their prime.

-Horrible defense
-Surrendering huge leads
-No trust in the bench
-Too many minute with just a 7 or 8 man rotation

If they end up getting in and that's a huge IF... OKC will slaughter us.. we would be lucky to win a game, 2 max..

realistically you have the best chance of beating okc in the first round since the deeper we get into the playoffs, the more tired we will become. nobody is gonna eliminate them, might as well try 1st round.

I heed your opinion but I never understood this thinking. Why do they get more tired as you go further?
There are about one or two days in between games for rest. So it is like a more lax schedule than reg schedule.
Isn't a day or two all you need to recuperate for playing a 35-40 minute game?

Looking at our overall record from a certain date isn't really all that helpful since most of those wins came against nonplayoff teams. The true barometer should be our record against playoff teams which is still lackluster no matter what date you start from. We've play better against bad teams in the second half of the seaon but we still struggle against playoff caliber teams. I'd like to believe that's somehow gonna change in the playoffs but I've seen nothing to suggest that it will.

Impressive run no doubt, but my only worry is that they're at or near empty come playoff time for having to hold the throttle down for so long.

^I agree.
They will be near empty if they make the playoffs.
And that will hurt them the most on defense and rebounding because that's where you have to exert most of your energy.
This team is having a hard time getting stops now, and they have all season. How thy will stop people in the playoffs I don't know.

Jay Caspian Kang: I know they're the Lakers, I know they have the massive payroll and the superstars, but having watched the Lakers over the past couple weeks, I've felt the faint flicker of what I felt when I moved to San Francisco in the spring of '07, just in time for the We Believe Warriors. Believe me, Warriors fans, I have done pretty much everything short of punching myself in the face for even entertaining such sacrilege (and I do acknowledge that I should punch myself in the face). But if we are talking about a potential 8-seed catching fire at just the right time and beating a 1-seed, has there ever been a more compelling case than these Los Angeles Lakers, led by Kobe Bryant, the NBA's own Doctor Faustus (seriously, at this point, all epic poets and occult investigative journalists should start looking into the deal Kobe struck with the devil), who I'm conservatively projecting for a 50/6/8 line in the first round, and Pau Gasol, who will be the first player to ever play an entire series with two middle fingers pointed at his head coach?

David Stern, please make this happen. We need Kobe in the first round.

Well, thankfully, theyve been saving up energy on the defensive end all year

How does that make you better than the Lin, Gallo, and Wil fans who root for them over NY?
