Josh Johnson Keepings Tabs On Pitcher's Contracts

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Apr 12, 2013 11:53 am

Josh Johnson, traded to the Toronto Blue Jays by the Miami Marlins this past offseason, will hit the free agent market this coming winter.

Numerous pitchers have signed lucrative contracts recently, something Johnson has taken note of.

"Something will come up on my phone and I'll look at it, see the [contract] number and think, 'Good for him, he deserves it,'" the right-hander said. "I don't go over it and look at the incentives or whatever else is involved. Then I'll get a call from [agent] Matt [Sosnick] and he'll say, 'Did you see that?' And I'll tell him, 'Yes, I saw that.'"

Johnson has lost a few miles off his fastball in the wake of shoulder issues and hasn't looked like an elite hurler so far this season.

In two starts, he has a 11.05 ERA. He has seven strikeouts against four walks and has given up nine earned runs in less than eight innings.
