i know that a lot of people are going to point at kemba's 18 straight points in the 2nd and 24 points in the half and say "OMG kemba is amazing", but honestly, outside of that 5 minute purple patch in the 2nd quarter, i thought he was pretty much crap tonight. he has no shot clock awareness. he is a ball stopper, he has no clue how to handle a double team off the pick and roll, he has some really lazy habit defensively, and his shot selection after his purple patch was frustrating at best.
he gets a pass for now because he is our best player, but im not sure how much longer i can stand the kemba walker iso show before i start to really start complaining loudly. i generally despise players like kemba - ball stopping, low efficiency, iso whores. i hate watching that style of basketball and i equally hate playing in the gym with guys who play like that. its annoying and a brainless form of basketball unless you are so much better than everyone that you can justify that style (such as kobe or iverson).
for now we can keep making excuses because it makes us feel better. kemba has no help. dunlap's offense sucks. defenses dont have to guard our bigs. all these things are largely true. i will be happy when some of these excuses are no longer an option. either kemba will turn the corner and show us he can be an amazing point guard and leader of a good playoff team because now has better teammates and coaching or he will prove that you cant win if you let a undersize, inefficient, shoot first point guard dominate your offense.
for the record, i am equally annoyed at hendo who is also a ball stopper and an iso whore. i am slightly annoyed at biz and MKG who prove useless on offense outside of 2 feet.
i hate to sound like leo, but i am seriously skeptical that we will ever be a good playoff team with kemba playing the style he is playing this season. he just isnt good enough at doing what he does to win consistently at this level. he has yet to show that he can play any other way at this level. what remains to be seen is if he can adapt to playing a different style once he has better talent. im not sure he can because his overall court awareness is rather poor for a starting point guard.
