Cap'n Jack waived!
As per wiretap.
Didn't see it coming at all.. Anyone got any more information on this?
How do we all think it's going to affect our playoff run? I know he wasn't a key piece, but he brought an aggressive edge to our bench and I think we'll miss his play.
I love the way Jack plays so I'll definitely miss having him, but I'll trust the organisations judgement and think that he must have been a serious disruption to the team leading in to the business end of the season..

You can count on Jack being a disruption whenever he is worried about his next contract.

Re: Cap'n Jack waived!
Apparently been brewing for a while.
Jack having issues with his role.
Have to think he was making some pretty big waves for management to make a move of this magnitude.
Pop and TD have been around the block a few times, I'm sure they'll put this behind them and focused on the playoffs.

You know something's up when PATFO waives a trusted vet instead of letting his contract run its course.

Re: Cap'n Jack waived!
Clearly he was upset about his contract. Expected the Spurs to give him a big extension, even though that was obviously an insane expectation for any reasonable person to have. Jack isn't reasonable, so he's shot himself in the foot and will regret it this offseason when he finds there are few to no buyers out there.

Re: Cap'n Jack waived!
I don't buy that Jack asked out for family reasons one bit, and any spin made to that effect is just that- spin from his agent. When Spurs team mates were asked about it, the reaction was not "Jack needs to do what's right for his family" which is what you usually hear in these situations, instead it was "big call letting him go, but I trust management" etc. Popp would also have said it was based on Jack's personal needs if that was the case, instead Popp said it was for the good of the team, and didn't deny Jackson had caused problems when asked. Clearly he was causing issues, or he wouldn't have been waived. Indeed, if he had family issues, just give him indefinite leave as usually happens. Instead the Spurs out and out waived him, telling him "go away, we don't want you here". No, Jack did something, and got let go. It's that simple.

Yeah, I just read the quotes from Danny Green and Pop. If it was family, they wouldn't have said what they said.
Unbelievable.

Perhaps you guys will find a clue if Manu's contract is to renew before the playoff.

Here is the article btw:
http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnatio ... e-jackson/
And in the postgame interview when asked if he would miss him, Tony gave the stock same answer he had prepared, and didn't say he would miss him. Just "it's not my decision".
And then this from S.Jax on instagram:
Clearly he thought he deserved minutes over guys like Kawhi/Green. He was wrong, and he was out of line to complain about it, after being given another chance in SA.

I didn't get that from greens quote or pops. If he really wanted green spits I doubt he would have said what he said.

Re: Cap'n Jack waived!
The Spurs survived SJax and still got a top 2 seed, and got out of the final year of Jefferson's contract.
The Warriors kept SJax from getting anywhere near their young players, and lined up RJ's expiring with Biedrins expiring next season.
Both sides came out well in that trade.

Warriors fans won't feel that way when they lose Landry and J.Jack as a result of the luxury tax... of course that's the fault of your old GM wasting the amnesty.

Wow, this was out of the blue. I think he was underutilized, but then he's not more valuable to the team than Kawhi or Green and those are the 2 guys in his way in the rotation. I'm sure there's more to the story that we don't know and maybe it will all come out once the season is over. I loved him on the team and the toughness he brought. He'll be missed in the playoffs, that's for sure.

Always have been and always will be a big fan of Jack, sad to see him go but if he was a distraction then he needed to go.

Re: Cap'n Jack waived!
Agreed.
It sure look like it's an issue of playing time and role. Otherwise, Danny wouldn't say stuff about him being the man elsewhere and having to adjust. I don't think he would just guess around on what the issue is and say stuff like that.
Probably was best for the team going forward, but Jax could've helped a lot. His size, defense, and his low post game is what I liked best. I wonder where he'll land next, if anywhere..

Re: Cap'n Jack waived!
He'll find a spot in the NBA before long, no question. He's too talented to not latch on somewhere. I'll say it again, but I loved what he brought to the team and he will be missed come playoff time, I can guarantee it.

I actually have a hard time seeing any team take a chance on him.
First of all, this is the first time ever that Pop waived a key rotation guy basically on the basis of character. It's not like we have a team full of kids where Jackson can be a distraction. I can understand Jackson being waived if that was the reason because then you can say "he wouldn't be a problem if he's around veterans". So you have a player with character issues. One that basically you can't trust around your young players, but also one that you can't trust around your veterans.
Then, unless he changes his tune, basically he's saying he's a starter in this league. Otherwise, there won't be an issue of roles and usage and stuff about him having a difficult time adjusting from being the man to just another guy.
Also money issues because I doubt he's out there grumbling for extensions worth 2 mil per year. If Jax thinks he's worthy of a starting spot and some touches offensively, then I think he's looking at something worth the league's average. 5 million a year.
This basically screams Kenyon Martin's issues. The only way any team takes a chance on Stephen Jackson is if he's willing to come for the minimum. But no team is likely to give him ALL of these things.

Totally agree. I can easily see him this year being his last.
You also have to consider that Jax has burnt a ton of bridges in this league, when he came back here from Golden State a lot of people considered us the only team capable and willing to deal with him.
The only team I can really see having an interest in him would be Memphis if he would be willing to take a pay cut. They could use the help on the wing and he fits their style of play.
