If we were an average team with a legit starting frontcourt, I think everyone here would admit he would've spent the majority of last year, and some of this year in the D-League. In fact, I'm surprised he's never gone down there. I thought he was going to be a complete liability on both ends as a rookie, and he impressed me and most everyone else here with his ability to stay on the court. The fact is we are focused on development of our players (like Bismack) and acquiring talent, not so focused on winning at the moment. You can't say we'll suck forever as long as we play Bismack, because this team will grow, and Biz will grow along with it.
I agree he is a D-league talent. And you've no idea whether Biz will develop much beyond what we see right now or not. We can hope. But I hope management doesn't buy into this idea that Bismack WILL develop into a starter level talent or WILL pan out because then they'll sign him to a stupid contract and we've got enough of those already.

He's not saying that he's a D-League talent, he's saying he's surprised he's not (which a lot of us are)
At this point in time, even if Biyombo never gets better he is a perfect 4th big to have, he is a project with a monstrous work ethic, if Kemba Walker tells you to take it easy and leave the gym during the offseason, you know you are a work-a-holic, I refuse to believe a 20 year old project who has improved so much already and is an extremely intelligent and hard worker will never improve.

I've just been looking at Biyombo's per 36 and advanced stats.
No wonder the box score watchers are giving him a hard time but the people who discredit his improvement are obviously just looking at his raw stats and some categories such as PER and TS% to back analysis based way too much on statistics and not as Slam likes to say the FEEL-O-METER, quite often without inderstanding what tale said statistics are telling.
PER is an offensive based stat that generally favours perimiter players, players who both hit threes and draw fouls, players who are are particulary offensive minded; Defense is discredited to some extent and the best type of defense does not even register on the PER formula.
TS% is definitely not favourable for bigs who are offensively challenged, have limited range and neither hit a high percentage of free throws or draw shooting fouls at a prolific effect to do so.
I personally believe a player has to play at least 25+ minutes a game for his per 36 to remain consistent to his production, turnovers, fouls and free throw percent also outline perspective for the hypothetical of said players potential ability to perform and stay in the game for 36 minutes.
Biyombo starts in the NBA and plays 27mpg and has per 36 averages of 6.2/9.6/2.3 on 44% and 53% from the line, he also only averages 1.4 turnovers per 36 and 3.3 fouls, he will be legally old enough to buy a beer on August 28th of this year.

I don't see how anyone can deny Biz has gotten better - and is playing with much more confidence - if they've been watching the games.

ps. anyone notice anything wrong with the above picture?

That was a heck of a game from Biz. It probably doesn't happen if Sanders is playing, but he still went up against a pretty good young guy in Henson.
Humble yourself.

Very nice game against the Bucks tonight. No denying the young man is improving. I am starting to think that grabbing Noel in the draft might be a good idea to see if they can play together. If they both play terrific defense, and they both develope a reasonable offensive game, they might be a good front line.

Re: The Brickhands Biyombo Thread 2.0
If we get Noel I think Biz gets regulated to the bench. But if Biz gets 30 minutes a night, I'd like to see him average 9 rebounds a game next season. That should be his goal this summer, is to work on rebounding. I really don't care if he averages 0 pts a game next season...he should just work on rebounding. We got plenty of time to wait, so take things one thing at a time.

his rebounding consistency has improved significantly in the last two months. that is the type of thing that will keep him on the floor as he continues to develop offensively.

Correct, when has he ever worn 28? Very very promising game by Biz tonight.

After the draft! Those are media photos I'm pretty sure.
For the record Biz will probably end the season as team leader in rebounds and blocks.
Awesome.

Re: The Brickhands Biyombo Thread 2.0
Okay, I think some clarification needs to be made about why some of us aren't impressed by Biyombo:
1. He has had two of the least efficient offensive seasons in recent NBA history for a big getting so many minutes. Don't believe me? Then go and look for yourself for someone who has over 3000 minutes with such poor shooting numbers, high turnovers, and a-biz-mal assist numbers. His offensive rebounding is solid, but it's not even remotely close to overcoming his flaws.
2. Shot blocking is incredibly overrated. Shot deterrence is not. For all the comparisons to guys like Sanders, Wallace, etc., go and compare Biz's DRtg in his first two seasons to theirs. If a guy is going to be terrible on offense, he needs to be dramatically changing things on the defensive side. Biyombo is not doing that. (Some mention should be made of the fact he doesn't force many steals, something Wallace was excellent at).
3. He has ONE useful NBA skill right now - rebounding. But you know what? So does Jeff Adrien.
So what does that mean for Charlotte? Little, because Biyombo still has room for improvement (e.g., potential to be a situational reserve big on a decent team) AND his work ethic makes him so darn likeable that there's really no harm for a team in the toddler stage of rebuilding to give him minutes.

He averaged only 6 rebounds a game in March.

Flawed argument.
DRtg is relative to a player's team, not the league as a whole. This is why notoriously bad defenders like Carlos Boozer has an average DRtg of 98.3 over the past three seasons.
Last year, Bismack had the second highest DRtg on the team among guys who got enough minutes to make a difference, 107 to Tyrus' 106, and has the highest on the team this year.

while having very inconsistent minutes, which is an aberration for him (he is one of the few non-kemba bobcats who have had more or less consistent playing time this season)
