I'm not sure how anyone can be happy with the fact that it would take a miracle for us to win more than 1 game in the 2nd round. We should've easily been 2 or 3 seed and avoided the dreaded 4/5 slot. That's ATL Hawks territory. We need to get better next year. I believe in our talent from 1-12 - so I think it's BS when people say we overachieved.

no way in hell did we overachieve. we are what, something like 30-6 vs losing teams? We have 3 all-stars and we beat the teams we should have beat while losing the majority of our games vs good teams. on talent alone 45-50 wins should have been the benchmark. if anything, we underachieved.

I definitely agree that we underachieved, but its one of the reasons I'm already excited for next season. We can spend whatever we want on a new coach so there is basically no reason not to land a good one and crank out 50+ next season. I have no idea who we'll get as a coach and what we'll do about power forward in the offseason but next season we'll only be better.

its hard not to imagine a +3-5 win increase next season if we replace king/PJ. outside of injury we are a lock for 45 wins just by showing up to the arena. roster improvements/coach improvements/health can only raise that number

fix it? No.

Imrprove it, or greatly improve it? Yes.

Teams often get their personality from their coach and play with the passion that they do. If we get a firey passionate coach and think that will translate on the court. but thats only 1/2 the equation. i think you still need an on court leader thats plays with a ton of passion and competitiveness. maybe someone steps up, maybe we bring int hat guy. i dont think it needs to be your star player either.

I agree completely with the first part. Yes the right coach can change the culture to some extent. First by emphasizing D...then by giving your guys a system to thrive in. Develop trust. Make guys believe and their confidence grows. A coach can do that for is guys. Some guys do it with tough love some by being drill sergeants and others by really creating something the players believe in.

The second part...I also agree MUST have an on court leader. Now, you can get identity from a support guy. A guy that does the dirty work or sets the tone. But its my observation that true direction...true leadership in the NBA will always come from its superstars. That is the league we are in. You can have the most colorful personality in the league on your team. Sheed, Rodman whoever. But its up to the superstars to say...ENOUGH. We need to do X...and we need to do it NOW!!!!

CP3 touched on this the other day. Talking about him and Griffin setting the tone. That if they are on the same page everyone has no choice but to get in line. And I agree with that thinking.

on one hand we are gonna get close to 50 wins, make the playoffs with HCA and stayed realtively healthy. dwill is playing well and lopez hasnt shown any recurring foot problems. all good stuff

on the other hand, we lay down way too often, dont play with passion or intensity, gave away a ton of games, and for the most part got beat down anytime we played anyone good.

id be lying if i said i wouldnt prefer to have won 42-44 games, but show the attitude of a hard working blue collar team that plays with a ton of heart, passion, and energy.

My preseason prediction for this team based on TALENT was that we should be a 4 seed. IN fact, I went further saying that the Nets and Nix would be the 4/5 seeds in some order...so 5 was the lowest I felt we could achieve and feel that year 1 objectives were met. Now...I expected Boston to be a top 3 seed...along with Miami and I am almost sure I said Indy.

So we are exactly where I expected be. Why did I vote neutral instead of satisfied? Because after watching this team all year...they simply dont leave it all out on the floor. Its more than chemistry. Its a hard team to root for at times. You watch these guys and you think how can a group of players be this talented and not have a clue how to seize control of a game? How can they lack all sense of swagger? I feel like I am watching your typical 35 win just miss the playoffs type of team more often than not.

So the best I can give them is neutral.

So you wanted a team that overachieved

I agree to a certain extent...there is definitely a character to this team where they lose focus and play disinterested basketball...w/ that said and those games being the most frustrating to watch, I believe it comes with the territory of a new team who went through a coaching change and a bunch of injuries specifically the lows of Deron Williams...

However, I am satisfied because I frankly did not believe this team could do any better considering the ups and downs, the perseverance it would take to come close to 50 wins top 4 seed....ultimately, 47-50 game season would be enough of a challenge for this team...

Watching us play ball the last couple of weeks even coming off several disappointing wins vs the Nuggets, Jazz and Bulls (or even further back vs Philly, Clippers and Hawks)...there has been some up and downs even in wins, but we closed the door on every single one of those wins by either doing enough to hold onto a win or closing out strong...

Maybe we could be on a 10 game win streak now...but if you go even further back, our team was still figuring things out as we went from Feb. to March...I truly believe dealing with match up problems and finding a way to play to our strengths and not letting the opposition dictate the game will ultimately decide if we can advance to the second round...

Has this season been frustrating, without a doubt...but we are gel-ing at the right time, we have the chemistry to make some noise in the playoffs and it all comes down to everyone doing their job, executing our offense and not taking off one possession on the defensive side...Our big guns have to step up and put up big numbers and our role players need to show up support and sustain periods of the game when our starters are out...If our bench fails we fail...to be honest, I'm more concerned w/ a potential choke and the lack of confidence that can carry over into next season...right now, this team is displaying a back bone whether leads are lost or not or whether we are playing mistake free basketball or not....the back bone, the desire and fire is there enough to see a playoff team ready to compete...can we sustain that throughout 48 minutes of every playoff game is the question...

That is all I can ask for...considering, like E said, this team was basically just thrown together we are exactly where I expected maybe even a little further than expected in my mind...

All I can ask for now, once in the playoffs...stick together, play tenacious basketball and leave it all out on the floor....AND D-UP!!!...

 You know...reading back what I wrote I cant really disagree with JJ at all. You know me so well after all these years brother!

You are right. I guess I wanted them to over achieve...or maybe a better way to put it...I wanted them to PROVE ME WRONG,

I wanted their talent to come together and eliminate the issues I saw in my mind's eye before the season began. My questions about Deron, Brook and Joe Johnson as stars...wanted to see that JJ was better than I thought he was or that Deron was the all world guy so many said he would be or that Lopez could be the complete dominant big man I can see he SHOULD be. And, I desperately wanted to be wrong about Crash. I said several times when we traded for him that he was DONE. That his last two years in Portland were just sad to watch. One of my favorite hustle guys int he league for years. Someone I coveted for our team for so long. Finally had him and instead of the junk yard dog version we got the junk yard hold the dog. Its what I figured and its what we got.

Blatche has had his warts...but he was overall a great addition for us in the 11th hour of free agency. But even he couldnt fix the black hole we had among our big men. Evans was a great pick up but his inability to fix what's wrong has driven so many of us nuts. In truth Evans over achieved this year. His failure is OUR failure. We asked more of him that he is capable of. I never expect anything of Hump. he is a low level crap bag of a player who like Evans has one skill. His contract is a good thing for us....not a bad one. He is a tradeable asset...but that does nothing for us now.

Watson does his job. Ditto Bogans. Marshon Brooks was an epic failure for us this year. I am tired of talking about coaching.

I wanted something to be beyond my expectations and honestly nothing was. NOTHING.

And that is the summary of my disappointment resulting in a neutral vote.

yes to absolutely all of this. other then the play of CJ watson not 1 person surpassed me expectations... and other then brook lopez, those expectations were not very high.

I've had only 2 criteria for a "successful" Nets season thru the years.

They finished ahead of Boston but behind the Knickerbrickers. 50% means I rate the regular season neutral.
Les Selvage pioneered today's "modern basketball" in 1967.
