Let's say Kohl and cronies are still delusional and think the franchise will be saved by spending big money this summer......let's at least see if there is some out of the box free agent plan that might make sense.

Toss out your free agent plan for the 8th seed that doesn't involve bringing back Jennings, Monta or Redick.

Assuming all those guys leave, we don't have their cap hold and we amnesty Drew Gooden, that leaves us with approx. $25 million in committed contracts and $35 million of cap space.

After picks are factored in, we have about $31.75M in cap space assuming Monta walks, Gooden is amnestied, and everyone else is renounced.

If we were forced to spend, I'd probably target Teague and Iggy, forming a defensive, ball movement, higher efficiency type team. If the agenda is to spend all the money, then probably fill in Redick between those two.

I think that team probably doesn't get higher than 6 seed, and you have decline hitting Redick/Iggy in the second half of the deals, but it's a better constructed roster than Ellis/Redick/Smith that i've seen fans wanting, and Teague still has room for growth in this situation along with Henson/Sanders. Granted, you probably have overpay Teague.

Teague/Redick/Iggy/Ilyasova/Sanders with a bench of something like Smith/Pressey/Caldwell-Pope/Moute/Henson/Udoh.

Obviously, my ideal situation is to do none of this, spend on one-year deals to get up to the cap minimum, and tank like hell for Wiggins.

This is a terrible year to have cap space and an impatient owner. Other than Paul and Howard, who aren't coming to Milwaukee, there are no deserving max contract players out there. The worst salary inflation tends to happen with guys below the max, but above the MLE. The Bucks have enough cap space to sign 3 of those players - 4 if they match an offer for Jennings.

I wish they would save it until 2014, or at least save it to use opportunistically to fleece some hard-luck team in a mid-season trade. But we know that's very unlikely, so I'll play along here.

1. Trade LRMAM/Ayon for Iguodala. I think Denver does it, and it costs the Bucks less cap space while easing the front-court logjam. Teams under the cap can still absorb extra salary in a trade if it's a sign-and-trade, right?
2013 cap cost: $14m

2. Keep Sanders/Ersan/Henson/Udoh/Smith/BJ's cap hold/draft pick.
2013 cap cost: $24m

3. Try for Kevin Martin or Mayo. If that falls through go with Redick and MDJ.
2013 cap cost: $10-12m

4. That leaves over $10m. Make offers to rfa's like Teague, Gerald Henderson, and/or Darren Collison. If that doesn't work or their teams match, look at fa's like Jack, Calderon, and even Mo or Ray (or both).

5. Sign-and-trade Jennings for the best deal out there. I already counted his cap hold in part 2, and I think they can go over the cap to work out a sign-and-trade because of their Bird Rights (correct me if I'm wrong).

I know it's all depressing considering how easily they could just tank instead of over-paying for mediocrity, but if we're stuck with Win Now let's at least not spend the money on guys like Maggette or Gooden this time. Thanks.

For me you get PG's that are better at distributing instead of shoot first. BJ3 leaving is addition by subtraction in the attitude dept.
You still will have outside shooting with Redick, Budinger.
You get Iggy for the "win now" and then Oladipo to groom, who I think has a high ceiling. His height is a little concerning for the 3 but plays bigger with his athleticism.
Trades free time for Henson to play more. Ayon/Gooden there to spell minutes if need be. Defensively after Henson there is a drop-off so may want to get rid of Ayon, keep Udoh.
Solid center rotation.

I'd rather have any one of a number of roleplayers that don't cost 45-50 million.

Some of you guys like to use the % of made baskets that were assisted as evidence that a player can't create his own offense... Well Redick in Milwaukee is assisted on 83.8% of his baskets. Just about the same as Dudley. Only 20 players are assisted on more in the entire NBA. Larry Sanders and Ersan are assisted on a lower percentage.

Sign one main piece for the future, the rest 1-2 year deals to fill in holes. No way am I spending over $10 million a year for someone like Iggy or Josh Smith. Ever.

I don't know why, but I feel that Timofey can produce if he is given enough minutes. He would be a respectable replacement whenever Larry gets ejected. I'd offer him 3/10.

I would try a trade with OKC for Lamb to be the centerpiece of a youth movement. They already have a high 1st and a late 1st, so maybe a player like Moute and a swap of picks with us taking some salary? I don't know what it would take, but I'd do that way ahead of signing a Mayo, Evans or Smith. I might even agree to swap next year 1sts with them.

I also think PHX is a good trade partner. They have picks and guys like Gortat and Dragic that they would move. Those would be good pieces to take in a Monta deal.

The thing to not underestimate is the complete lack of 2's in free agency. Mayo, Evans, JJ and Ellis and nothing. There are more than a dozen teams with a lot of cap money and that will definitely be buyer's remorse heartbreak for everyone involved. I threw up in my mouth a little when someone posted that they'd be happy with Mayo at $11m per.

Last: BJ is the 2nd best PG on this team. No way under any circumstances do I offer that guy anything unless it is in a sign/trade. I also don't think it would be stupid to offer Ellis 4/$40 total and play him almost exclusively at PG. It is impossible to think that Hammond can execute a good plan for acquiring a starting 1, 2 and 3 in the same offseason.
