And secondly, how do you propose we "decide" who signs what offer. If I offer a 3 year, 14 million deal who wins there? The AAV was the best route that I determined.

BTW this is why I don't like this bidding format

Should bump the Gmat Criticizing thread

The logic makes 0 sense. A one year deal at 10 mil > 3 year 27 million starting at 9 million?

Then how do you propose we solve it? Because looking purely at the contracts, and not paying attention to the situation clearly isn't the answer either. Wright stands to play 30+ minutes for my team shooting 3's and playing good defense, and then going back into free agency for a bigger deal next offseason. There is no perfect way to run FA. This is IMO the most black and white way to do it.

Situation is similar. My team is competing while you're rebuilding. Long term deal and security.

You're always going to run into these problems with GMAT, so I think arbitration is the only way to effectively resolve an issue like this.

The J Rocka wrote:Not sure why this is an argument. Long term stability with 16 mil on the table is far better than a 1 year deal, especially for a player like Wright where he's 27 years old entering his prime years as a player. This may be his last long-term contract. When he's in his early/mid 30s, then one years deals to hop on a championship team may not be out of the question. That's assuming he doesn't win one in that 4 year span.

In theory, that might make sense but Wright would be limiting his earning. Look at it from this perspective, he's going to get starting minutes (something around 30 minutes per game), play some good defense, and knock down some open 3 point shots. A year from now, he's hitting free agency when he's 29 coming off what is likely a big year and parlays that into a full MLE deal or even possibly higher.

What if he gets exposed as a starter? Or a serious injury happens? I think it's far too risky to go with a one year deal for a player of his caliber. There's a reason why he isn't looked at as a full-time starter in this league.

Lets say a player like JJ Barea who had a good season with the Mavs in 2011 and a strong Finals appearance was offered a starting spot on a 1 year deal versus 4 year deal coming off the bench. He's taking the 4 years and running. He knows what he brought as a role player and he still got paid. He didn't risk it all for a starting spot for one season to try and breakout to get paid more in the future. Had Barea started on another team, nobody would've offered him 4 years ever again.

Why not? Commissioner said anybody undrafted who is on either DX or NBA Draft.net 2013 mock, or DX top 100, is fair game in tier 5.

Actually, I said the first raise would be to 1 million, so it's a legit bid.
