2013 NBA Draft Thread Pt. II

Post#1 » by ComboGuardCity » Sun Apr 14, 2013 11:56 pm

Seeing as how the other thread is about to hit over 100 pages, I thought it'd be great to start a new thread and put some frequently asked questions in the OP.

NBA Combine: May 15th-21st
Draft Lottery Date: May 21st

Current Lottery Spot: #6

Board's favorite Prospects for the 1st Round (No Order):

1. Trey Burke - PG 6'0 ( Can score and shoot. Concerns about his first step and size)

2. Victor Oladipo - SG 6'4 (Great defender and very athletic. Concerns about his size and offensive potential)

3. Shabazz Muhammad - SG/SF 6'6 (Good offensive arsenal & intensity. Concerns about Intangibles/Passing)

I really like Anthony Bennett's upside. I've read that some scouts think he can play SF in the NBA. What do you guys think?

To me he looks slower than Derrick Williams and Williams cannot play the 3. His ball handling is worse than Greg's.

Is this the first time that the combine has come before the draft lottery? How do teams know how to target when they don't even know the draft order?

I dont quite understand what you mean, the combine comes first then the lottery. So everyone will know the combine results and have workouts .The actually draft is on june 27

I looked it up and last year the NBA combine was the second week of June and the lottery was at the end of May.

Not quite sure how teams know which players to interview considering they wont know their draft positioning. Also, how do players know which teams to turn down for interviews, since they also don't know the teams draft positioning.

Maybe they're doing it early to avoid certain players not talking to certain teams because they feel they will go higher.

Thanks for posting those videos. DraftExpress is doing a great job putting those together.

Is it wrong to say Nerlens Noel reminds me a little of Stromile Swift?

I haven't been able to get through one of those videos completely without thinking that that player's weaknesses are almost impossible to deal with.

I'd very much like to find a way to trade that pick for a lottery pick in the 2014 draft.

I'm mean, yechhh. Whoever we pick, I'm just going to hope the guy turns out better than what I think I'm seeing on these videos.

As of right now, these are the guys I want us to target in this order:

McLemore
Burke
Muhammad
Oladipo
Porter

Or trade the pick...no interest in Noel, Smart, MCW and Bennett.

I've got no interest in the short point guard who absolutely cannot guard anyone.

how on earth are we going to build a winner if we have to point guard cannot ever keep any other point guard out of the lane?

^ My thoughts exactly. I'm not even sold on Burke on the offensive end and I am definitely not sold on his defense. We don't like Calderon because he's a terrible defender, yet we want to replace him with an equally bad defender. It makes no sense, especially when PGs today are scoring and so athletic.

I take Len/Zeller/Gobert before Burke. We have starter minutes available to a PF/Ce combo back-up.

However it shouldn't come to that. If we end up with 8th or 9th pick though I hope Dumars calls up GRIII and promises him to be picked at our slot to entice him to enter the draft

Burke has above average D, ppl won't blow past him, shooting over him is the only thing I worry about. If Ty Lawson and Cp3 can play in the league and not get torched on D, why not Trey?

Because Trey is not nearly as fast as Lawson and even lacks the lateral quickness of post-op CP3. And no, he allowed penetration at will at Michigan.

I'm sure a poster is going to come out and say "But we have Andre". Sure, we do, but its more than just penetration when you're 6 feet tall. Plus, the Magic came out in the gimpy East and got swept with that formula.
