Pacers - Celtics game

Post#1 » by xam2k7 » Tue Apr 16, 2013 2:03 am

First of all, my thoughts and prayers go out to all those involved in the situation in Boston, it is a horrible tragedy that should not be taken lightly.

The NBA announced that the pacers-celtics game tomorrow night is canceled and will not be rescheduled, which i completely understand in light of the recent events. However, does this mean that both of those teams will only play 81 games this season? If thats the case then we are now solidified in the 4 spot since mathematically we cant pull even with the pacers... I didnt watch the game tonight vs the wizards, but i can only assume thats why lopez, dwill, evans, and JJ were inactive.

anyone can confirm this?

We were already out of the race for the 3rd seed yesterday when we lost to the raps, that's why the game tonight was cancelled, probably.

we were not out of the race, we hold the tie breaker with indiana since we swept the season series... They changed the standings so that the division winners only must be in the top 4 spots hence giving them home court advantage... look at the west, clippers won the pacific division yet they are in 4th place. if both pacers and nets finished 49-33 we would get the 3rd spot. but if the game is cancelled and wont be replayed, pacers can finish no worse than 49-32 and we can finish no better than 49-33 now

No, we wouldn't, we would only have home court advantage on an potential ECF matchup, it's a different situation from the clippers situation, in which they'll most likely play the grizzlies.

ahhh i see... i was under the impression that the first tiebreaker when determining seeds is head to head records which the nets won 3-0 against the pacers... but the first official tiebreaker is whether or not one of the teams is a division winner which the pacers are.

haha thanks for working through this with me palmeirense

No problem, it sucks that we lost to the raptors, it really does, but in hindsight it was probably for the best, a regular season basketball is meaningless when compared to the tragedy that took place in Boston today. :(
