Official Draft Thread 4.0: Magic get #2 overall pick!

Post#1 » by Skin » Wed Apr 17, 2013 5:06 am

Big decision was made today by Marcus Smart to return to school. Time for a new poll and new discussion as Smart was one of the favorites to land with the Magic.

Who do you want now?

For me:
1. Noel
2. McLemore
3. Burke

As long as we get any one of these guys I'll be happy. Without Smart, I feel like there's a significant drop after the top 3.

So Noel and Maclemore are almost sure picks at 1 and 2 and if we miss on them we are forced to select Burke high or could add another wing prospect like Porter or Oladipo. Not too many options for us unfortunately.

"Aaron Gordon will cost Henny's job by Dec 2016." Predicted Dec 2014.

"O'Quinn will have a longer and more successful NBA career than Nicholson." Predicted Jun 2012. Verified on Dec 2014.

Henny has made the most out of EVERYTHING he has done so far.

Not too many options regarding Dwight.....Ends up with Vuc & Hark.
Not much out there for JJ.....End up with Tobes & Lamb.

Not worried about the decision making for this club.

Regarding McLemore, it would be nice to have a knock down shooter, but who is getting him the ball? He certainly hasn't shown any signs of going & getting his own.

1.Burke
2.Noel
3.Oladipo
4.??????

I was really looking forward to us picking Smart...

If we don't go with a PG this year, I'd look at Kasey Hill next year. Hill's crazy talented.

This will probably be my favorite thread throughout the season.

Trey Burke PG Michigan:

Burke has been busy this summer, participating in the LeBron James Skills Academy and drawing rave reviews as perhaps the best point guard there. And what may have helped him even more was that he was measured with a 6'5'' wingspan - which is solid for a point guard.

Burke's game is very mature for his age. As I touched on already, he has a very high IQ and learns quickly. He reads defenses well and has been very competitive dating back to the days where a pre-teen Jared Sullinger and him battled all day long in various competitions. The coaching by the elder Sullinger also helps explain why Burke already plays like a battle-tested senior.

All the intangibles with Burke are there. He plays tough and with a great motor. He enjoys trying to get rebounds and managed to get over 4 rebounds per 40 minutes when adjusted for Michigan's slowed down tempo.

Michigan's tempo is something you need to keep in the back of your mind when looking at Burke and the rest of the Wolverines. They don't get as many possessions per game which brings their numbers down to earth. But if you look at Burke's 40 minute pace adjusted stats, he averaged 17.7 points and 5.5 assists.

Scottie Reynolds Terrell Stoglin Kyrie Irving Derrick Rose Dominic James John Wall Nick Calathes

Those 7 names are the only guys who scored and assisted more than Burke during their freshman year at a Big 6 school (since 2001). Burke did this playing next to Tim Hardaway who can be hard to play next to as a point guard.

I guess I haven't checked these draft threads enough, but are you guys really not that high on McLemore? Dude is an excellent athlete and pure shooter.

And yeah, there were times where he couldn't get involved on offense, but he was actually really consistent this year besides his first two games in the tournament and against Kstate in the big12 championship. He followed it up really well against Michigan though and Kansas only lost because Elijah Johnson made poor decision after poor decision.

Finally a group of KCP highlights. Now really what's the difference between him & McLemore, other than McLemore has a little more athleticism?....(KCPs all around offensive game is better)

Same size & KCP is younger.

I'm shattered. I thought Smart was perfect for us. I'm not really high on anyone else. Terrible year to have a top pick.

Think we could sell the 2 for a like 10-12 next year. The 10-12 in 2014 will be a better player to be sure.
