Arizona D-Backs (8-4) @ Yanks (6-5)

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Mon Apr 15, 2013 12:29 pm

Frustrating April for the NY Yankees After a horrific start, they have won 5 of their last 6...3/5ths of the rotation has been excellent. The closer is back to his old brilliant self. The offense has been...creative at best.

How patient is Joe Girardi with Ichiro's slump? He's been so ineffective that the Yanks took him out for former Detroit Tiger Brennan Boesch last night. Good 2 year deal? We'll see.

Jason Nix at SS. Wow. So I thought to myself when Hank/Cashman/Levine and Jeter were at it for a new contract. Ok, let's go with the Yanks idea that an old SS isn't good news for the team. Might want to sign or develop a SS while you're at it? NOPE. Again if you're going to draw a line in the sand, get a contingency plan before playing hard ball.

Vernon Wells reborn? Must admit I didn't like the trade...but now, Wells has been so good I can't help thinking what happens when Granderson comes back? You can't sit him. Granderson and Wells would have great arms in LF-CF. That puts pressure on Girardi to choose Ichiro vs Gardner and so far, Gardner has been the better player.

The only thing I would have liked to see, Ian Kennedy pitching against the Yankees...but not to be:

Nova vs. McCarthy: Battle of the 7+ ERA. Someone has to get better.

Sabbathia vs. Miley: Can CC give the Yanks another W?

Corbin vs Hughes: Don't understand why Hughes was moved up to #2 in the rotation. BAD idea. He's pitching for his life right now. It almost seems intentional that the Yanks are going to force him to the pen. I prefer they do that AFTER Pineda is back.

Let's GO Yanks!

Nova throws 55 pitches through 2 innings. McCarthy already threw 57 pitches. Still 0-0.

Hurts seeing Chavez as a D-Back. Yanks could have signed him cheap and then Youk at 1B. Wishful thinking.

until the playoffs, we usually do it per series because baseball has 162 games.

CC serves one up 2-0 D-Backs.

Tomorrow buckle up, Hughes is on the mound. So far, you can't be too upset over the the record of the team. The pitching is doing its best to keep the team within striking distance. When I think of Granderson, Wells, Ichiro, Gardner see a deep outfield with a lot of range, combination of power and speed.

The infield scares me. Don't think Jeter is coming back till July. That ankle is not responding well. Teixiera I bet will come back at the end of May.

A-Rod is anyone's guess.

Can the Yanks squeeze out one more playoff appearance? I think so.

Hughes' best performance yet. Through 5, gave up only 1 run. Yanks had 1 hit. No Hafner or Overbay in the line up. Ichiro in danger of falling behind Jason Nix's .174 avg.
