Kupchak Says D

Post#1 » by minifang » Thu Apr 18, 2013 8:37 am

“Yeah, he’s back. I think he’s done a great job,” Kupchak told The Times. “There’s been no discussions otherwise.”

“He’s made adjustments. He’s been flexible. He’s evaluated how he coaches as the season’s progressed. He’s listened to the players. He’s very easy to work with and we think in particular since the meeting the day of the Memphis game, yeah.”

Getting us to the playoff he earned some stability for at least next season, no doubt though that if things go south words won't matter, just like they didn't with potato.

I would like to see PJ come in as an assistant. Work homes games and travel during the playoffs. How crazy does that sound?

If I'm Dwight I walk up in kupchaks office and tell him if you're going to keep Pringles then work out an amnesty deal with Kobe to bring in some help that suits his style. Or you keep Kobe but bring back Phil otherwise I'm walking. I know its easier said then done but that's how I would play it

I know, I know. Just throwing it out there. But I'm fairly certain Phil is in no shape to coach fulltime, so it must be Mitch's job he's eyeballing. And as far as execs go; Phil Jackson is no Mitch Kupchak.

I hope they're right about this one... If they can play Defense like they did last night and score better, then why not, but my impression is that Pau and Dwight are kind of engineering the offense right now.

I think he's done the best any coach can do with this roster and I'd be excited to see him back next season. Hope his knee is healed fully by then too.

There goes Dwight. I wouldn't be surprised if he was pushing D'antoni to be replaced as a bargaining chip in order to re-sign. Good thing is that Dwight doesn't have much options when it comes to free agency.

I'm not a fan of D'antoni, but he rotation of coaches has got to stop. There needs to be some stability.

On the small whiteboard next to the locker room’s lone TV, a message was scrawled in large red letters.

We’re in.

Way to fight the fight.

All I know is we're playing harder than we have in 3 years.

Agreed! Even if they brought back PJ, he would probably only coach for one year before moving into a front office position. Then we'd have to find yet another coach to replace him.

Besides I think the Lakers are something like 27-12 since the All Star break anyway. D'Antoni has got them playing more inspired "D" of late and they're a better a team as a result.

there's been a lot of bumps along the way, but i think its totally fair to say that mda has done a pretty damn good job. the one thing i give him the most credit for is being so willing to adjust style of play, system, rotations, starting lineups. he's very open to tweaking things. he's had his short comings and im sure several posters could quickly point them out, but he's been alright.

overall i think he's gotten such an unfair amount of blame from this fanbase throughout the yr. he was brought in without a training camp and asked to implement a version of his phoenix suns nash offense. little did he know that steve nash was going to miss like the 1st 25 games of his tenure as coach and never really be 100%. also worth noting was that steve blake was out too, so he had to play freaking chris duhon as a STARTER. at this same time, he has a clearly hurt pau gasol playing very ineffective ball. seeing him today its like a totally different player, moving his feet way better, getting more lift. he was shooting something like 35% from the post before going down with his torn plantar fascia, also shooting his lowest % from mid range of his career. all probably due to that foot. also at this time, he has a hobbled center complaining about touches despite getting the second most post touches in the nba.

despite all this. lakers have like the 3rd best record in the NBA in the 2nd half of the season. MDA deserves some credit for that.

Mda has been flexible and has veered away from his usual style. He is playing to the lakers strengths rather than try to force feed his own system.

3rd best record in the 2nd half is impressive. If dwight and pau stay healthy, and kobe comes back healthy, this team is going to dominate next season.
