Wow, very sad story. I have to say, I like Monta.
I'm not saying I want to re-sign him, but I like him.

It just makes you think: how good could he have been if he'd had J.J. Redick's athleticism?

Fantastic story. Love the part where Monta flat out explained why him and Steph Curry in the same backcourt wouldn't work. What do the Bucks do? Of course they did.
I know I'm in the overwhelming minority here, but I've enjoyed watching Monta Ellis play for my favorite basketball team.

As a Warriors fan, brings back a lot of bad memories of crappy ownership. I feel for you Bucks fans in that regard. The decimation of the We Believe team still angers me

Operation Shoestring renovated an antiquated furniture store into an after-school center and converted a warehouse into a basketball half court. With 9-foot ceilings, the rims reached just 7½ feet, but even in that compromised environment, Ellis stood out.
Explains his no arc shot.

"here was actually a point in high school where we gave Monta the keys to the gym because we were tired of going up there and opening the gym up for him late at night."
There was also a very anti-swag quote in there.
Great article.
Honestly, I liked Monta when he joined the team and I like him now. Out of BJ3, JJ, and Monta, I'd take Monta over the others any day.

Monta's has always been a great teammate and generally fun player to watch. Would love him on my basketball team.. as a 6th man. His heart is unquestioned.

Re: Long read on Monta Ellis.
Really good backstory article. Had no idea about any of this.
Tough life growing up, much respect for him to stay on the straight and narrow and make it out alive and become a professional ball player.

Re: Long read on Monta Ellis.
Very nice article. I know he didn't care, but thanks for sharing DB.
I knew about some of the high school accolodates but no idea about his brother, how bad his surroundings were, etc. It really does a good job of painting the picture of who he is, at least the best that we could know.
The article really sums it up though, he can be fantastic and frustrating, but he is who he is. I respect that night in and night out that he is going to bring his game at 100%. I've learned to kind of like him, but I still don't give him a big deal. If he opts in, I'm cool with that.

No chance I'd re-sign him regardless, but never had a problem with him personally or his effort. Just the fact he doesn't help you win.

I think he could/will as a more mature 6th man. That's always seemed like his destiny to me.

Re: Long read on Monta Ellis.
I do think Ellis would be a good 6th man BUT I just don't see him accepting that role at all. If we know anything, and this article further confirms it, its that Monta is VERY confident in his abilities. He doesn't talk alot of trash but a few months ago he compared himself to Dwyane Wade. He's just not a guy that's going to easily take to taking a lesser role, which more than likely will if he becomes a 6th man. I mean if you're going to play him starter minutes, then may as well start him to avoid the issue altogether.

I live out here in California, and there is nothing like the love of Monta in the Bay area. Monta was never any kind of a problem for the Warriors and this article solidified my liking Mully too. That guy put together a good team out here despite an idiot owner. Hmmm.....

Well, he hasn't been "a problem" here, either. Just put into another bad situation by a horribly ran organization. And the hate for him on this forum has been more amusing than anything.
