Definite disparity between movie terrorists and these guys. Not only did the brothers fully expect to not be identified and to get away with this, but based on the other bombs and bomb-making materials they still had, they also expected to continue to attack other targets unimpeded. It's fortunate this escalated before that could happen.

I'm not quite sure about this. It seems like the dead suspect had explosives attached to his body during the shootout, which makes little sense if their only idea last night was to rob a 7/11. And if they expected to not be identified at the marathon, they could have disguised themselves a little better than they did.

Antrim wrote:The most surprising thing to me has been the way the authorities have controlled the news flow. The pictures released to the public didn't really show the faces of the suspects that well, although they DID have pictures where you could clearly see the face and easily recognize them (they have released them now). It seems like they released the pictures with the only intent of having them come out, and they ALREADY knew who they were.

Indeed. Maybe they didn't exactly know how those suspect would react, but they seem to have had a pretty good idea. Unfortunately such margin of error resulted in a killed officer, but I think the result right now is an overall success even though one somewhat escaped.

If it is indeed true, that those suspects had more explosives at their disposal, and if they came away with that bombing now, it can easily be argued, that they have used their increased knowledge in order to attack other mass events. Therefore, the quick and rather successful reaction by the officials seemed to have impeded further maybe even more harmful attacks.

Yeah, somethings happening, cop has someone at gunpoint, says device on person, awaiting EOD.

EDIT: I don't know if its the suspect, they say they have him cuffed and the cop described him as a 70 year old man with salt-and-pepper hair.

Is it confirmed it is a terrorist attack? Is there a confirmed motive?

I understand they are from the Northern Caucus but they've been here for a while and it is quite possible they've been far removed from the situation there (which in itself has nothing to do with the US).

The alive brother had a lot of stuff about Chechnya and recently posted videos about the current situation in Syria on his social media page so was mostly likely a factor in the motive.

Seriously. Everything I've heard makes me think they'd be mad at Russia. So I guess they are unaffiliated and removed from the situation there.

That's what I believe too. I'd think Chechen Muslims have a much bigger beef with Russia than America.

Watching one of the videos he had on his youtube profile page has a video of some dude talking about how Harry Potter is teaching children paganism and how corrupting Western culture is to Islam.

Yea, I did some work for school regarding the Chechnia and Russia. Many have fled the area and those that have fled seem to have been far removed save for a few. But the occupation there is strictly a Russian problem. It seems to me that since this is a Muslim then might has well slap a terrorist tag on it because Muslims have no other issues. While if it were someone else it could be depression or just going crazy.

But America has nothing to do with Syria or Chechnya. It is a shame that the government and media use the ignorance of most people to take advantage of their agendas.
