Pistons win tie-breaker, will likely pick 7th
Good news. Good chance at 7 we'll be able to get one of Shabazz, Oladipo, or Burke

As long as Zeller goes before #7, we should get somebody who could fill a need.

Mclemore, Shabazz, Noel, Porter, Oladipo, Burke, Bennett.
1 of these guys will be there at 7 guaranteed. Would've been nice to get top 5, but I'm good with fact we will be getting 1 of those guys. (assuming Dumars doesn't get cute and pick someone else.)

I would not be surprised at all if the Pistons went for MCW, McLemore or Len. PG, backup big man.

7th is better than the last few years and we seem to have done well in those. Even if this is a weak draft, I'm sure we will get someone that can help.

Re: Pistons win tie-breaker, will likely pick 7th
Interesting quirk. According to what I'm reading at PistonsPowered, if Washington gets lucky and gets a top three spot and drafts ahead of us in the lottery, the Pistons will pick 37th in the second round. If Washington drafts after us in round 1, we'll get the 38th pick.

Agreed (assuming the lotto balls don't bounce against us, of course). I think it's kinda ironic that the one guy on that list who doesn't really fit on the Pistons is Noel, the consensus #1 prospect. Everyone else could conceivably slot in pretty easily and compliment the pieces we've already got (even Bennett; if he can't play SF, he could fill the 6th man / 3rd big role and play next to either Moose or Dre). It looks like we'll be in a good position to acquire another piece of the puzzle via the draft, but I think we'd all agree that's just step one; no matter where we land in the lottery, we need to do more than just use our pick and call it an offseason. Still, it's a good starting point.

I kindof like the idea of drafting Bennett, even if he can't play SF. We could bring him along slowly as our stretch 4 off the bench, and swing Monroe back to C behind Drummond. Always having an offensive threat at PF could work for us. Now, if we did that, we could keep Singler and Middleton at SF. I don't want to draft a SF, since I'm a big fan of both those kids, and think Middleton could be very good. My issue with this idea is how we'd defend. When Drummond's in, we'd be fine. When he's out of the game, we'd possibly be awful on D.

We also ended up getting the Clips' 2nd rounder as well according to Keith Langlois
They will also choose 56th as a result of the Los Angeles Clippers winning their tiebreaker with Memphis.

I don't watch college ball so I don't know, but could Shabazz play SG? He seems the right size to play at 2 and then our lineup going forward would be:
Knight
Shabazz
Middleton/Singler
Moose
Drummond
There is a lot of potential there. Even if we pick Oladipo who is probably more likely than Shabazz, he will play at the 2 as well so Middleton will still get a chance unless we get a SF in FA.

The Pistons do have the ammunition to move up in the draft. Our second rounders, pick #7, and some nice pieces like JJ, CV's contract, Stuckey and his contract (both assets), Singler or even Middleton (I don't want to trade Kyle or Khris, but they are assets), $25,000,000 in cap space. If we really want, we can move all over the place - possibly getting a 2014 pick.
I don't know that I'd do that, since I don't see a great pick in this draft that I'd want to trade a ton to get. Maybe we should use our second round picks on a couple guys we're stashing or keeping in Europe.

Re: Pistons win tie-breaker, will likely pick 7th
I guess some of the posters think Shabazz can play SG. I don't know that any pro is projecting him at SG, but I'm not sure. On the other hand, I hate the idea of drafting a guy who's allergic to passing the ball, and who I'm reading isn't a great athlete.
But if he were a good teammate and willing passer, then maybe that could/should be considered.

Well, that's something.
Its possible that that one slot could end up making the difference.
