I respect people's right to an opinion about whether or not Corbin is a good coach. I just think online petitions are silly. Do you really think that Jazz management are going to get some online petition delivered and say "crap--I guess Corbin is fired".

While I am not a fan of what Corbin has done so far, I don't necessarily think he should be fired. I'd rather he just find some direction and quit middling with this roster.

What direction? The guy is not ready to be a head coach, if he ever will at this stage of the game. He just doesn't have a sense of fairness nor does he understand how to manage a team to get the most out of his players. His in game decisions are atrocious. More often than not, when the Jazz call a timeout to draw up a play, it gets busted or the ball is stolen and they never even get a shot.

Corbin? He is not a "Jellybean". He is a "Pudding": warm, rubbery and vague. This is the guy that should not be a coach, an this moment. Several coaches, better than our beloved Tyron already sacked: Frank, Collins, Scott. So why not Tyron? Tyron had the playoffs really in their own hands to the last matches. With one of the best froncourt in the NBA, some good defenders (Hayward, Carroll, Marvin W.) and shooters - Veterans (Foye, Mo) summed up in this way, his two years in the crew. One big NOTHING. No thanks to this gentleman, it's time to say goodbye!

Re: Sign the PETITION to Fire Corbin
I mean Corbin hasn't been the greatest but I still don't why he's getting so much blame. KOC and the front office brought in or kept a bunch of expiring medicore vets of which only one should be a starter on a good team (Jefferson) and told him to make the playoffs. And some fans are blaming him for not playing the young guys more when they know if you lose playing young guys major minutes with experienced vets on your roster, they are gonna blame the youth for you losing and not the vets as much which alot of the media and the front office has done. Think about it .... Some fans and a couple writers think Corbin has done a bad job but the front office and many more media members like JVG think he has done a good job. Well he played it smart and took the safe route and played the vets which is working for him. How can you fault a man wanting to keep his job?

have you ever hear JVG saying something bad about another coach? he is very famous for being really defensive and supportive of other coaches.

I think it would be more productive to just email David Blatt's resume to the Jazz FO.

Wait....what?!? How many all-stars are there in that "one of the best frontcourts"? The Jazz certainly were not recognized for "good defense", and their "shooters" vanished in streaks.

So there's a lot of criticism of Ty Corbin as a head coach. Simmons, Hollinger, anonymous scouts...is he that bad? Can't he get better? He's been in a very unstable situation with that team since he started -- finishing season for Sloan; Lockout/no training camp; 9 free agents this year. Can we give the guy some time to grow? People were highly critical of Jerry Sloan until Hornacek came around and they started advancing to the WCF&Finals every year.

In general, coaches take too much criticism, and I don't think Utah's results this season were particularly disappointing. At the same time, some of Corbin's decisions on how to allocate minutes are curious at best, and I'm not sure we've seen much evidence yet that he is in fact growing as a coach. I think he belongs on the hot seat entering next season, with the understanding that there may be a lot of change again this summer.

Re: Sign the PETITION to Fire Corbin
I would sign a petition to give him a raise or an extension. A guy who takes a team filled with Mediocre players who "Think" they are way better than they really are (Mo Williams, Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson) and keeps the locker room together and fighting all year for the playoffs... deserves a gold star. Is he perfect no, but neither was Sloan. (Foul a little less in the championship years and shoot a few more threes and we win a title.)
Alas, Corbin has the most valuable coaching trait down, and he has it down early in his career... the rest of the x's and o's will come later. I am excited about his development as I am with the players.

what do you mean the x's and o's will come later? wasn't he an assistant coach for like seven straight seasons? wasn't he coaching this team for the 3rd straight year? that's about 16 seasons as a player and 10 more as a coach. but yeah, he'll get that x's and o's bit eventually - it's only been like 26 years.
i really wish he'd get it. i really really do. i think very highly of him as a person, but as far as coaching is concerned, he is a disappointment up to this point. and this last season was a total waste, it pisses me off just thinking about it.

If he knows they're mediocre players, why does he play them anyway when they're being outperformed by other players at the same position?
And I have to echo Inigo's point. What indication do we have that the "rest of the Xs and Os will come later?" And "rest" implies that there's a significant number of Xs and Os he has down now. Which ones are those?

If you are trying to say Favors and Kanter "outperformed" Jefferson and Millsap this season I challenge you to show some evidence of that. Here's what I'd use to say you are wrong:
Derrick Favors
PPG 9.4
RPG 7.1
APG 1.0
EFF +13.52
PF 3.2
Enes Kanter
PPG 7.2
RPG 4.3
APG 0.4
EFF +8.61
PF 1.7
Al Jefferson
PPG 17.8
RPG 9.2
APG 2.1
EFF +21.33
PF 2.2
Paul Millsap
PPG 14.6
RPG 7.1
APG 2.6
EFF +17.90
PF 3.0
I'd also throw in that Favors' minutes were limited by the need for offense (Jefferson was the most consistent offensive threat) and the rate at which he fouls. He averages the most fouls of this group even in comparitively less playing time.

Re: Sign the PETITION to Fire Corbin
I like that you respond to something about how they're not playing enough with Per Game stats, which only reinforce how little they played.
If I have the time, I'll go back and identify specific individual games where Favors and Kanter were playing better, and yet still not given minutes. Not all of it shows up in their individual stats, though, as part of the reason they should have been playing (especially Favors) is because of their defense. Favors defends his own man, hedges on the pick-and-roll, and defends the rim at an elite level. Al Jefferson may as well have been an incorporeal being at the defensive end.

Re: Sign the PETITION to Fire Corbin
hmmmmm.... you bring al and paul's basic stats of scoring, rebounding etc. and then compare them to favors and kanter. of course their average points, rebounds and all the other stats will be higher - they are playing more minutes. al and paul played 33MPG and 30MPG, while favors and kanter played 23MPG and 15MPG. that's just a skewed way of looking at things in order to make a point.
you get a very different picture when you compare their stats per 36 minutes, especially when you add kanter and favors' defense and size into the equation, as well as the fact that they go to the free throw line much more.
