Random Observation (not the biggest deal)

Post#1 » by Quake Griffin » Sun Apr 21, 2013 1:29 pm

My dad texts me from the game yesterday and says the atmosphere is "electric". I'm looking at the game on television and I'm not feeling "electric". I guess my only barometer for it would be comparing it to the old Sacramento crowds back in the early 2000s.

luckily this isn't my only trial.

I went to game 3 last year against Memphis - the one where Rudy Gay missed the jumper at the end (good job Randy for making him double pump).
I remember the sea of red. I remember the volume of the arena and how intense the game was. It was the most intense sporting event I've ever been too (except USC-Notre Dame 05).

luckily I happen to be a nut job...I DVRd game 3 on ESPN and on Fox Sports. It did not sound as "electric" and intense on television as I felt it was at the game.

edit:
Happy Birthday Ralph Lawler

can you guys help me make heads or tails of this?
Is it my warped sense of what a good crowd is in an NBA game? Ive been to Laker games/ playoff games before.
or is there something that ESPN and fox sports does with the sound when filming our games?

Cliffs:
our home playoff games don't seem as loud on tv as they do at the stadium

The networks "mute" or lower the volume on the crowds.

dunno man....seems like they may mute ours a bit more.

but i have my pops saying the atmosphere was dope and he's been to plenty of playoff games. then azn said it was crazy in the other thread. looking at these plays here, it just seems like it was alright

i dunno, not a big deal. i just like to have the best of everything for the clips. So having a Sacramento or GSW like crowd/ reputation for having one like that would be dope to me. If people can't tell that through the television our crowd will never become legend.

Chris Paul calls us the 6th man so I guess that will have to do for now.

It's the acoustics

Places like the Arco Arena, the Grindhouse or OKC's arena have the fans practically sitting on the court, so the sound is magnified. They sound loud and they are loud.

It's hard to judge on the TV. I feel that they (Clipper Nation) were a lot more active than they are throughout the season, but I know what you mean when you compare it to the Oracle arena and similar crowds.

Media at the game said crows was jamming and the classic wave at end.

Bill Simmons was bigging up on twitter the vibes at the game last night. He actually said it was so loud it might even wake Tayshaun Prince from his comma lol

But yeah they should make a better work of translating the arena atmosphere to the TV broadcast.

It wouldn't be possible, because the sound would probably blow the microphone up, or if they turn up the crowd sound, it would just drown everything else out. I've been to events where the screaming was so loud, I was actually afraid my ear drums would burst. It's probably impossible to accurately transfer that sound over the television.

i know it was nuts inside there.

ill stick with the acoustics.
it's my truth and it makes me comfortable.
because i know a Clipper playoff game is one of the more intense sports experiences I've ever had.
