Re: 2013 Ask Jeff Risdon a Question
Any nuggets on the Skins? They need safety help bad, name I've heard is DJ Swearinger in the 2nd or maybe Robert Alford but other than that, not a peep from Redskins Park.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

Swearinger is certainly an option. The one name I've heard from more than one person, albeit not Skins people, is Logan Ryan, CB, Rutgers. Gavin Escobar will be your 3rd round pick if he's there.

Datone Jones was a very talented player who put up good numbers on a UCLA defense that had a lot of athletes but did not come together as well as what might be expected.
I like Datone Jones very much. DE in base package, slides inside as a nickel DT, or a 5-technique in a 3-4. I like that he played more consistent as the year went on, dominated at times. Top 25 talent, could go at 19 to NYG or 20 to CHI. I think I said it earlier here but he is a potential trade up target for the Falcons, also for SF.
The UCLA defense was tough to figure out. They had those two big/strong corners in Hester and Price, ideally built for jamming, and they played them largely in a passive cloud zone with garbage safeties and inexperienced LBs. When Hester got the chance to play press man during Shrine Week he looked solid.

Re: 2013 Ask Jeff Risdon a Question
Ic, have you ever seen a draft where a group of QB's stocks (or any major position for that matter) have fallen and risen so much so close to draft day? Everything I've seen lately has Ryan Nassib as the first QB off the board first to go play for his old coach in Buffalo. Geno Smith doesn't seem to have a home and people have no idea where to slot Matt Barkley.
The only draft that even remotely reminds me of this is 2006 when the Mario Williams/Reggie Bush questions were floating around.
Oh, and a sidenote: Sharrif Floyd was just on Sportscenter and Mel Kiper said he'd be the #1 pick if his arms were longer, not knowing Floyd was in studio. So, Floyd responded by saying, "I don't play like my arms are short." Thought that was kinda funny.

What do you think the Bucs are going to do with Revis now in their secondary?
Devilzsidewalk wrote:no, the DB's will just be thinking "damn, I thought that was going to be a run!" as they easily recover to intercept a Ponder pass 10 yards off the mark

Obviously Ted Thompson and company are quite tight lipped regarding their draft plans, what do you think/hear they're going to do this weekend?

Re: 2013 Ask Jeff Risdon a Question
Hey Jeff-
Not so much a question as an idea. If you have the time (I realize you may well not), I think a sort of team/GM by team/GM habits breakdown might be really interesting to others. Not giving away trade secrets or long, involved discussions on each, but quick bullet points like Ozzy Newsome has a strong preference for big school guys, GMX usually goes BPA, etc....the kind of thing fans of each would know, but fans of other teams might not, and skip it where the GM has no real tendencies, is too new to judge, or w/e. Just sort of a quick summary of knowns, if you get me.
I know I would appreciate it, and it would really give another depth to what teams might want to do outside of identifiable roster needs.
Anyways, whether you can or not, you are one of the main reasons I keep coming back to this site. Much appreciated.

Re: 2013 Ask Jeff Risdon a Question
A running back has been taken in the first round of every draft since 1963. I know there aren't any RB's with first round grades this year BUT, if you had to pick one team who could take a RB in the first round and keep the streak alive, who would it be?

Jeff,
Has there been any talks of the vikings looking to make any trades with their first round picks, or are they looking to stay where they are?
thanks

I think they like Tyler Eifert a lot more than most people believe. I mocked them Kenny Vaccaro but I doubt he falls that far. They are in prime "trade back" turf for a team looking to move into the 1st to get a QB or someone who has fallen. Datone Jones makes a lot of sense too but I think he'll be gone.
One guy to watch for on Saturday: Corey Fuller, WR, Virginia Tech. Packers would be lucky to have him.

This is on the docket for the post-draft doldrums. I'm pleased to hear there is some interest in it. And thanks man!

Cincinnati trading back into the 1st and taking Eddie Lacy. I really don't see a RB coming off the board before their OAK pick in the 2nd, and that's not a given. Barring trades, Green Bay but I highly highly doubt that.

I think they add a pass rusher early. Tight end is something I know they've scouted. A quarterback in the 3rd or 4th round wouldn't surprise me at all, not at all.

It's 45 hours away and I have no idea what is going to happen. Pretty sure I know who the top 8 players will be but I can only guess the order: Joeckel, Fisher, Jordan, Johnson, Ansah, Cooper, Mingo, and Nassib.
I do think Nassib is the 1st QB and goes #8. Geno could go 9, could go 33. Barkley could go anywhere between 11 (SD trading up) and 40. So many reputable people rank them so dramatically differently, it's impossible to tell what is going to happen. It's going to be a fun weekend!

I mean... It's not that dumbfounded being as he'd be playing for his college coach and essentially running the same system. Most of the scouting reports I've read about Nassib say that he's the most intelligent QB in this class, so he could probably do well in other systems, but why not get a leg up from Day 1?

Between the reports of the Jets looking to trade back and you saying we're looking at Manuel... you got me scared. However as a Jets fan I wouldn't mind moving down at all and stockpiling some picks since the depth in this draft is there.

I dont know how it's going to play out, but I'm very confident the Jets will land either Tavon Austin or Tyler Eifert and a new starting QB by the end of the first 40 picks. And perhaps a pass rusher as gravy. VERY confident about this.

Re: 2013 Ask Jeff Risdon a Question
Basically every draftnik on ESPN and NFL network seems to think Fisher is a better prospect than Joeckel but that Joeckel should go #1 because he's a "safer pick." I'm confused. Can you explain their logic to me?
