Speculate how Detroit may use their cap space in trades

Post#1 » by OneBadMutha » Mon Apr 22, 2013 6:02 pm

I believe the Pistons won't be attempting to spend all their cap space in free agency. Cap space can put a team in prime position to win the talent side of a trade. For example, Pistons could draft a player with plans to trade him for a more established player with a big contract from a team that wants to reduce salary.

Eric Gordon seems to be a realistic target.

My pipe dream would be Monroe for Aldridge.

Who else has ideas?

1. Absorb Eric Gordon
2. Philly pick + JRich(bad contract and he's out) to us for Stuckey. Send Philly Pick + Singler to Denver for Chandler.

1) Take on Hedo and/or Al Harrington's contracts to entice ORL to also give us Harkless or Harris. We could give them Knight as well if necessary.

Something like Knight/CV for Hedo, Harrington, and Harris

or

Our pick/Knight/CV for their pick, Hedo, Harrington, Harris

2) Take on Humphries to entice NJ into giving us MarShon Brooks as well -- maybe we could take their late-1st as well??

3) Take on Camby to entice the Knicks into giving us Shumpert.

4) Another guy that might be available as a salary dump - Ryan Anderson (NO)

CV and Stuckey (both expirings and guys to fill the needs of..) for Gordon and Anderson?

The option that definitely interests me more is acquiring young assets in exchange for taking on salary burdens of other teams.

The quality players that would be available in straight up simple salary dump type deals will probably be older veterans that don't fit well with what we're trying to do.

-Absorb Eric Gordon
-Sign Millsap to a 3yr deal as our back-up big(I think we can persuade him to do this Clarity)
-Trade Stuckey for Philly's 1st rounder(Good idea Combo) and pick-up MCW

Knight/MCW
Gordon/Knight/Muhammad
Muhammad/Middleton
Bullwinkle/Millsap
Drummond/Bullwinkle

If we do nothing else, we should at least try to get Wilson Chandler...but yeah, I agree with all of the above.
