Lin Feels Critics Have 'Bipolar' Perception Of His Game

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Apr 22, 2013 7:31 pm

Jeremy Lin's numbers were approximately the same this season as they were last season, but he was unable to duplicate his three-week 'Linsanity' streak.

Lin signed a three-year, $25.1 million contract with the Houston Rockets in the offseason that the New York Knicks declined to match.

“It seems like everybody’s perception of me is very bipolar,” Lin said. “To one group, it’s overpaid, overrated; to another group, it’s underpaid, underrated, underdog. It’s funny to me because there’s no real balance. Why can’t I just be a young player who’s shown some potential and has a lot of learning to do?”

Lin seems to be a real diva if he is concerned about critics of his game aside from his coaches. His game is flawed and he should be smart enough to realize it and work on improvement.

He probably is underpaid in terms of marketing aspects in relation to the amount of revenue he's generating for the Rocket's franchise. They show every single Houston game in China. Basketball-wise..now that's a different story.

Why can’t I just be a young player who’s shown some potential and has a lot of learning to do?”

because young players who have shown "some" potential don't sign 25 million dollar contracts

Like only the whites celebrating Marc Gasol winning Defensive Player of the Year when he clearly doesn't deserve it. lololololol

25 million may have been too much but it was for 3 years and is probably only about 1.5 million more a year given what a non Asian player would have gotten last year posting the same stats/similar hot streak at a similar age heading into FA.

When young guys that show potential to be good starters -- coming off of a good year -- enter FA, they get paid.

I think its ridiculous to criticize Lin for "at most" being paid an extra 4.5 million over 3 years for his marketability as an Asian point guard. Lin is pretty spot on. I'm not Asian but I can see how he has been clearly been treated differently both for good and bad.

So criticize Lin but in truth if he was black with the same exact numbers/play in college, he would have easily been drafted and gotten a college scholarship to more of a basketball factory.

Reductive reasoning. I'm not Asian, I thought he was better than he was here at GS. He's a good slashing guard that plays good D, with a shaky outside jumper. 13-3-6 on .540 TS while playing good defense is pretty damn good. He got overhyped because he was the first American-born Asian to succeed so much, but its not like the guy is a scrub. He deserves to be an NBA starter, and he still has untapped upside.
