Re: Official 2013 Draft Thread - Part III
I'd pawn of Shabaaz to the highest bidder b/c Minny would gladly snap him up at 9. Shabaaz would be the last elite wing in the draft. If no one would bite, I'd just take him myself as BPA. However, I don't see the top 7 unfolding like that:
1) Magic-Noel
2) Bobcats-Mclemore
3) Cavs-Porter
4) Suns-Len (I think he rises)
5) NO-Burke
6) Sac-Oladipo/Shabaaz (They have Thompson and Patterson as PFs, they need wing help)
7) Det-Shabaaz/Oladipo (They are not drafting a non-starter (i.e. a PF or C). They need wing help)
8) Wiz-Bennett
I think 1 of Bennett or Len would fall to the Wiz b/c Sac & Det both would take wings over bigs.

This. Wiz will end up with a big in this draft. Although I'd prefer Len.

We're getting the 3rd pick anyway. Trust docstradamus.

I was thinking the same thing last week. I like our 15% chance to move up (I'm guessing its the 3 as well) lots more than our 15% chance to move down.

Doc, I'm glad it's you not me. I just tried the ESPN lottery machine again. And let's just say that if I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all.
I couldn't get the Wizards anywhere near #3 (much less 1 or 2) after a whole lot of spins. I just gave up.
I hope you're right about #3 because I'm pretty pessimistic at this point.

Man, I really hope somebody above us falls in love with Zeller or Shabazz, so at least we end up with Len or Oladipo.

As for us getting top 3, wouldn't be surprised at all. Then its a tough choice. Len or Otto

Re: Official 2013 Draft Thread - Part III
An overlooked 2nd round prospect is Robert Covington of Tennessee State. 6'8 215 with 7'2 wingspan. He had a great junior season (with a 30 PER and over 60% eFG and TS%), but he tore his miniscus in his senior season, and his shooting stats fell way off. He's supposedly not a great athlete, but his getting 2.0 blocks and 2.2 steals in 31 minutes a game says differently. As a soph and junior he made 45% of his 3's at a high volume. Don't be too quick to poo poo Tennessee State - he played 3 games against Murray State as a junior - and they were ranked in the top 10 - also played #1 ranked UNC that season. A smaller school version of Otto Porter, perhaps.

I ran it and the Wizards ended up with 8th. But they did get Len, so it could be worse

Sounds like a good possibility. Very strange about his senior season. He might be a more athletic Justin Harper. I think he is a guy where his measurements are going to make a big difference in whether he is drafted.

Can he gain 20 pounds and play stretch 4?

I have the Wiz getting the #1 pretty regularly and I barely use it.

Someone talk to Ted. Perhaps we can get Dark Faze to represent the Wizards at the lottery.

The catch is that he'll have to wear Irene's yellow dress.

I'm sure Dark Faze will do whatever it takes to help our beloved Zards get the #1 pick.

FWIW, Chad Ford now has McCollum going 9th to Minnesota. He has moved up quite a bit. Interestingly, Caldwell-Pope is moving up too, Ford has him ahead of Zeller.

This might be a case where you give a smaller school player a comparative benefit of the doubt - since they likely didn't have the kind of weight training facilities that bigger schools had. Maybe he gets on a pro caliber program and can gain the weight. Faried I think came from the same conference and added a bunch o muscle in the offseason before his rookie year.
Btw, when did the states of Morehead, Murray, and Wichita get admitted into the US?

To me, that's crazy. I know Zeller played the worst basketball of his life in the postseason, but people who have followed him throughout his career know he's likely going to be very good in the NBA. You don't throw away 2 excellent seasons for a poor streak when teams are double and trippling him - especially when you know he won't be defended that way in the NBA.

This is a good point. I don't see Zeller busting from the NBA. I bet he moves back up some when he goes against his competition in team work outs.

I can't find my post about questioning McCollum or the responses (if any) but it's really bewildering to me. He's NOT the prospect that Stephen Curry is and imo he's barely better than Erick Green.

I think it's because of the success that Lillard had and people thinking he could follow in Lillard's footsteps. I think he can as a shooter/scorer, but he doesn't have the blazing speed or proven PG abilities that Lillard had.
