I'll get mine up later today or tonight, but in your write-up, you'll need your original roster, salaries and your initial assets (picks, etc), along with your final roster, salaries, and your assets (picks, cash, significant TPEs, etc), a picture/logo to easily identify your team (same one from your roster page works), all the trades you made, and why you think you did a great job being your teams' GM. Break down your roster and tell us about your team and its future.

I went ahead and got this up early, so no excuses for not getting your write-up done. Remember, no write-up or rankings, and you can't win. So make sure you do both.

Team Overview

Point Guard
Ty Lawson / Andre Miller / Julyan Stone > Michael Carter-Williams / Chauncey Billups / D.J. Augustin

On paper, this looks like a pretty significant downgrade and for the immediate time it'll be a significant downgrade. But looking at it long term, Ty Lawson is an above-average starting point guard but not a franchise point guard. Michael Carter-Williams has that kind of potential. He can be what Shaun Livingston was supposed to be by that bigger point guard. Behind him, Chauncey Billups is the ideal veteran presence to help develop MCW, and Augustin is a pretty good 3rd string point guard.

Shooting Guard
Andre Iguodala / Corey Brewer / Evan Fournier < Bradley Beal / Glenn Robinson III / Nick Young / Ronnie Brewer

Andre Iguodala, at this point in his career, might be one of the more overrated players in the game. He's not a very efficient scorer, and he's not much more than a good point forward who provides a few highlight reels and plays good defense. This next contract that he's going to get in real life could really hurt a franchise, so moving him was my #1 priority. Getting back Bradley Beal, who was averaging 17/6/3 post-All Star break, is one of the brightest budding stars in the league. Speaking of Iguodala, Glenn Robinson III looks like a young Andre Iguodala. Nick Young and Ronnie Brewer provide some nice depth.

Small Forward
Danilo Gallinari / Wilson Chandler / Jordan Hamilton / Quincy Miller >>> Dorrell Wright / Mike Dunleavy Jr. / Quincy Pondexter

This is obviously a MASSIVE downgrade as both Gallinari and Chandler would have been starting for this team, but when we went with a rebuild we wanted to make sure we kept a spot open for Andrew Wiggins. With how bad the Nuggets and Knicks are projected to be, the Nuggets have the option to swap picks with the Knicks so there is a pretty good chance the Nuggets could end up with the #1 selection and complete their rebuild. I like the veterans here though.

Power Forward
Kenneth Faried / Anthony Randolph < Derrick Favors / Thomas Robinson

I like Kenneth Faried as much as the next guy, but Favors already brings similar things to the table but provides much, much more upside. In limited minutes, he's shown the ability to anchor a defense and be a high volume rebounder. We believe he will achieve his true upside in Denver. In Thomas Robinson, we see a young Lamar Odom whose a great role player to have.

Center
Kosta Koufos / JeVale McGee / Timofey Mozgov <<< DeMarcus Cousins / Andrew Bogut

This is a MASSIVE upgrade. Koufos is a nice starting center, but DeMarcus Cousins is one of the young players in the game despite his issues. Between he and Favors, the Nuggets will have one of the brightest, young frontcourts in the NBA. We think he's a franchise player. McGee was a toxic contract, and Bogut gives the Nuggets a huge expiring contract.

Writeup:

Why do we think we did a great job?

Taking over the Spurs is not easy. A team that finished 2nd in the west, but has an aging cast...with an uphill battle trying to beat the likes of Miami and OKC. With the average age of the team being 27.8(three best players 33.6) and no significant young talent to take over, plus Manu being a pending free agent...We decided the best option would be to start a youth movement. We kept their best young piece, Kawhi Leonard...while also bringing in other defensive minded players to fit the spurs direction.

Along the way we had an opportunity to get Dirk Nowitzki, though Dirk is a bit older(34) he is still younger then both Duncan/Manu and arguably a better player...but easily a better fit for our squad as constructed. Dirk can still be the dominant #1 scorer / closer for a team (19/8/2.4 on 50 / 43 / 91! post all-star and the Mavs were 18-12 during that time) and he's shown that when he has the right cast around him...he can lead you to the title. Here we have a team that is pretty similar to that Mav's title team, defensive minded players(Rubio / Bradley / Hibbert among the best defenders at their positions, Kawhi an emerging lock-down guy), a great scoring option off the bench, Kevin Martin(14 PPG on over 60 TS%, 28 MPG --everyone remembers how good JET and washed up Peja played getting open looks for Dirk, imagine Martin -- and a very good bench (Chalmers / Delfino / Thompson / and Haywood).

We think this team has as good of a shot to win a title that the Spurs did when we took over, and now the team is significantly younger(average age of 25.4 now), not to mention the draft rights to Steven Adams(#18 on DX, 19, high motor, big time athlete and defender) and Shane Larkin(#27 on DX, great defender, solid play-maker and can really score), and Dennis Schroeder(quickly rising on mock drafts, now up to #20 on DX, 19, amazing athlete from Germany).

Positional breakdwon:

PG: Tony Parker / Patty Mills / Nano De Colo / Corey Joseph < Ricky Rubio / Mario Chalmers / Shaun Livingston / Daniel Schroeder + the rights to Shane Larkin.

Parker might have a slight advantage in value over Rubio, but he is now 30 years old, Rubio is 22 and really rounded into a potential star after tearing his ACL last year(13/5/8/3 steals, and getting to the line over 5 times a game post all-star)....The backups are clearly an upgrade, and we have 2 high potential young guys with Schroeder / Larkin.

SG: Danny Green / Manu Ginobili < Avery Bradley / Kevin Martin / Travis Releford

Green and Bradley are similar, but most see Bradley as having a lot more upside(4 years younger, already an elite defender). Ginobili and Martin in close in terms of play right now, but Manu was an impending free agent and 35 years old...Martin is signed to a very fair contract and only 30.

SF: Kawhi Leonard / Sjax < Kawhi Leonard / Carlos Delfino / Jordan Hamilton / Khris Middleton

Sjax wasn't a factor for SA at all, and was eventually waived before the playoffs. Delfino has been a key contributor for the Rocket's playoff run...and we have 2 solid prospects in Hamilton(19 points PER36), and Middleton(good all-around athlete).

PF: Tim Duncan / Dejuan Blair / Matt Bonner < Dirk Nowitzki / Jason Thompson

Duncan has had a very good season, possibly should of won DPOTY...but for our team especially, Dirk is a much better fit...and he's really that #1 scoring option we feel is most valuable in the NBA. The Mavericks really gutted their team in the off-season in hopes to stay semi- competitive and then go hard for free agency in the off-season...but Kaman/Brand weren't much of a factor...and Mayo was very underwhelming in the 2nd half of the year.

C: Tiago Splitter / Aron Baynes << Roy Hibbert / Brendan Haywood + rights to Steven Adams

No question this is a big upgrade. Splitter has improved tremendously, but he is already 28 years old, and was entering free agency. Hibbert is 26, and a former all-star. He's a top 5 defender at the center position, elite shot-blocker, very good passer, and after a terrible start to the year showed he is a nice option in the post(15.6 points on 51 / 80 compared to only 10 on 41/68 before the all-star break.) Haywood is still a nice defender on a good contract...and Steven Adams is 19, with elite physical tools to go with a very high motor.

We think we did a very good job in upgrading the talent(especially under 25), while building a team that is better then real life Spurs right now...with the best coach in the NBA we would love to see what he could do for the next decade with all the talent we have brought in.

Write Up

Direction

When I originally got this team I went right to work and spent a few days negotiating a deal with Boston that would of netted me Rondo, and Green without me giving up Rudy or Val, and would have led to me going in a win-now direction. However, Boston was able to get Dwight right before we agreed to the deal, and decided to keep Rondo which was understandable. After that I did not see much value in the league for the players I had other then Lowry, Amir and Val and I decided I would go a re-build direction instead. Also I was very reluctant to trade for any tier 1 or 2 free agent as I lost Chris Paul last game when my team was located in a huge market and had great players.

Rebuild

This team was going nowhere with the team originally assembled and the payroll going along with it. Players like Landry Fields and Linas Kleiza were very tough to move, and I spent most of my time in the beginning trying to unload them while not taking on any bad contracts. As you can see in the case of Fields he was not traded ever again in the game (I believe he is the only non-star player not to be traded more then once, likely due to his terrible contract).

Ross and DeRozan both held very little value, many saying Ross is a bust (I disagreed), and in the case of Demar GM’s did not like his 2013 ongoing Salary when it jumped up to $9mil (which I also did not get since they were willing to dish out terrible contracts in free agency)

Rudy Gay and Andrea’s contracts were also not the greatest and held very little value. Rudy’s offers often included a decent kid plus a terrible contract ala Amare, Bogut, Haslem, Miller, Iggy (did not want to re-up him for the max). I eventually settled on Vasquez who has shown signs of being an above average PG, Saric who I believe will be the next Parson, and plenty of picks which include the GSW 2014 first which is lottery bound and can hopefully land me Andrew Wiggins.

Best type of Andrea offers had expirings coming in return. I eventually ended up settling on an expiring as well as Houston’s 2015 first which could potentially be a lottery pick if Lebron decides to head to Toronto or elsewhere in the 2014 offseason

In the future I am hoping this is the year Derrick Williams proves why he was a top draft pick and makes it an easy decision to pick up his team option. In a perfect world we would like to go with a 3 man big rotation of DWill, Noel, and Val for the next several years, with Mullens as a depth guy in case of injury or foul trouble.

PG: Lowry (FA), Lucas, Telfair = Vasquez(RFA), Fredette, Teague

Some may saw that Vasquez’s stats are inflated because he plays for a bad team, however I would have to disagree as he has shown steady improvement over his three years in the league, shoots at an efficient rate, has a 3-1 assist/TO ratio, and has a decent PER. Going forward we would like see him drive the ball a bit more and not be afraid of contact as we would like to see him at the FT line more often. As a RFA we are hoping to lock him into a $7M annual salary, but we also have the option of matching any offer sheet unlike Lowry.

Lowry is good but has had troubled staying healthy. Though he has better playmakers to play with ie Rudy, and Demar he has not been able to lead a team to a winning % as a starter. He has had trouble with being consistent his entire career which drives the entire coaching staff nuts. In terms of the bench it is an obvivious upgrade as Fredette can give you good minutes off the bench shooting at an efficient rate and not turning the ball over.

Yes this is an obvious downgrade, however Demar had to be sacrificed in order to remove some of the bad contracts we had on the team, as the previous GM had already traded away the Raptors first round pick. Goodwin is a project and is ranked one of the top shooting prospects in the draft with a good athletic physical body. Lets hope the comparisons to Russell Westbrook and Tyreke Evans are true! We have also brought back fan favourite Vince Carter to help mentor Goodwin as Carter came straight out of the draft and made a name for himself in Toronto. Losing Ross sucked as I wanted to build around Ross and Val, but Ross just did not hold much value in the game and GM’s saw him more as a role player and a draft bust (Can’t believe they were basing that off 1 season where he was playing behind a guy who received a large contract extension in the offseason)

Talent wise the former players were better, however salary wise going into the future the Raptors are better off. Too early to judge this category as we will have 3 lottery balls hoping to land on Andrew Wiggins, if we win the lottery clearly was worth it. Also, Saric is no slouch he should probably play one more season overseas, however we do not want him picking up anymore bad habits overseas and want him to build some chemistry with the young roster we have. Here’s hoping he turns out to being better then his comparison of Chandler Parsons with the mentoring of Caron Butler.

Clearly an upgrade Bargnani had negative value, Amir is good but if Derrick Williams can finally figure it out in a year where his team option is on the line we could have something special with him. Finally, we somehow won the lottery and received Noel. We like Noel at the PF position as we believe the wear and tare of a full NBA season at the Centre position would just be too much for Noel. Noel is gifted with tremendous athletism and we are hoping he can develop his offensive game going forward. McRoberts and Smith are great guys who will help guys out in practice.

Clear upgrade, we really like Mullens, hoping to re-sign him in the offseason, and like the mentoring Okafor can provide. As well with plenty of young bigs expect Okafor to see some playing time due to the young bigs getting into foul trouble as they develop.

2013-14 Season aka Tank Nation

There is no if and or buts this team is going to be BAD they will be lucky to win 10 games and average over 60 points a game. We are giving our young kids (Goodwin, Saric, Noel) the opportunity to show us what they got and prove that the 2013 draft class was not weak. We have really high expectations of Noel and are hoping alongside Val they can become the next David Robinson and Tim Duncan. We are hoping that this young duo, and the stellar play of new PG Grevais Vasquez, and the return of Air Canada Carter will keep the fans engaged in the product. We will also be handing out Tank Nation t-shirts to all fans that come to the games.

Best case scenario is that the Raptors, Golden State Warriors, or the Los Angeles Lakers win the lottery and the Raptors get the opportunity to draft Andrew Wiggins to go alongside Noel and Val. This trio will be the new big 3 and be feared by every team in the league.

If for some lame reason we do not win the lottery we will either combine all our picks to try to move up, and draft a couple of highly skilled players in this deep draft. We also have the luxury of having between 30-40 million dollars in cap-space and are hoping we can get some allstar caliber players to go alongside Val, Noel, Vasquez, and WIGGINS in this very deep offseason crop of talent.

Summary

Ultimately I believe I should win as I have improved at the Centre position, Power Forward Position, will have upgraded at the SF position once I draft Andrew Wiggins, and have gotten better at the PG position as Kyle Lowry is set to become a free agent at the end of 2014, while Vasquez is only a RFA, and all signs are that Lowry is looking for a $10mil annual salary which is a vast overpayment for his talents. For our SG position we are hoping to draft a nice young prospect in addition to going after a top notch free agent, even offering the max to certain RFA and making their existing teams really think about matching the offer sheet.
Also did I mention I can potentially have 4 lottery picks in this years draft, and between 30-40 mil in cap space to go along with an already young core of val,noel,vasquez,dwill,mullens,goodwin, saric, and Fredette. Also after drafting Wiggins we wouldn't mind trading our excess picks for players like waiters, klay Thompson, and other top end RFA that teams are hesitant on giving the max to

Overview:
People may wonder why I essentially decided to blow up a 3rd seeded playoff team. My explanation is simple: a)They have no realistic shot at winning a title in real life, much less in this game where certain teams got even stronger
b)The ages of Indiana's core players don't sync up. In other words, internal improvement can't really be relied on because by the time George and Hibbert peak, West(already 32) and Granger(30, already declining and his knee injury is troublesome to say the least) will be diminished.
c)While we think George is an awesome player, we think he's more of a Pippen than a Jordan and while we hated doing it, we had to flip him into someone we could rely on night in and night out to put points on the board and create for others. Contrary to popular belief, George isn't really a great offensive player, his efficiency is poor and he struggles to create his own shot at times due to a lack of handles.

In return, I decided to build around probably the 3rd most valuable player in this game, a young, emerging superstar who is locked up for the foreseeable future. Harden can put up points in bunches, get opponents in foul trouble, create his own shot at will and create open shots for others. Harden is a legit superstar already and has proven so by leading his team to the playoffs in real life with a team projected to be last in the West before he arrived.

Tobias Harris might not be as well known as some other blue chip prospects in this game but his 2nd half of the season(where he finally got consistent minutes) with Orlando was a revelation. He's proved he can play either the 3 or the 4, he can play inside, outside, defend well at either position and clean the glass with ease. Additionally, he's still one of the youngest players in the league(only 20), produced in his first significant minutes in the NBA(18/8 as a starter) and has enormous amounts of untapped potential. He would be Indiana's 2nd option for the future and his versatility allows his game to easily fit with Harden's.

People thought Lin was a questionable fit next to Harden but after starting off the season shooting poorly but post-ASB, he shot 38% on 3's and averaged 15/6. He's still young, a good distributor, and can create his own shot. Ilyasova is a stretch 4 signed to a cheap, long term contract. He's a great rebounder and 3 point shooter, and is a perfect player to put next to a ball dominant superstar. Doesn't need plays run for him but can still produce efficiently. I'm not going to sugarcoat anything regarding Robin Lopez, he's fairly cheap and serviceable. He will be a good backup when we sign our Center of the future in 2014. We have over $10M in cap space for 2014 Free Agency and all of our picks if significant assets become available.

Our bench is filled with young, high upside guys. Pat Beverley and Lance Stephenson are both 2nd round picks(dirt-cheap contracts), athletic and a quality defenders. They would spark our bench both offensively and defensively. CJ Miles is a more than capable floor spacer. Jared Sullinger is on a cheap rookie deal, is a great rebounder and has a good jumpshot and post game. I think his floor is Carl Landry and his ceiling is David West. Mahinmi is a cheap, serviceable, defensive big. We filled our 2nd unit with guys who still have a lot of room to improve but even in their current states, form on e of the best benches in the league. Our 3rd stringers would get minutes on nearly every team in the league.

We have no bad contracts, have all of our future picks and we'll have over $10M in cap space to fill out our starting lineup for the future. Our roster is young enough to grow together while also being talented enough to win now.

Writeup

Original Aim: Make the playoffs.
Result: Won the 2013 NBA Championship

Second Aim: Rebuild
Result: Added 3 of the top 10 prospects in the NBA

I'm really pleased with my result here. Firstly, I turned one of the least successful NBA franchises into a Championship winning team. I did this by assembling the Spurs core around Kevin Love and Andrei Kirilenko.

Not content to stand pat though - especially as many felt a healthy Rose would propel the Clippers to glory. And with Duncan (37), Manu (36) and Parker (32) nearing the end of their careers, I felt the best aim for me next was to rebuild - provided I could get the right value.

And I did. I brought in Anthony Davis first - he should need little introduction, as he's arguably the best 'big' prospect right now. Already an impactful defender and developing offensive player, he's drawn comparisons to Kevin Garnett. Andre Drummond too. Raw offensively but hugely impactful defensively (99 DRtg as a rookie!) with a great rebounding game to boot. A double-double threat every night and still just 20. Finally, I flipped some remaining pieces for Stephen Curry. The best shooter in NBA history? Probably.

The surrounding pieces are somewhat less exciting but functional. Tony Allen is a defensive stud and fits perfectly next to Curry. Prince is a solid role player as he's proven for the Grizz. I've got a few good prospects like Cole, Neal, De Colo, McDermott, Jefferson, who round out the roster. I might get flack for Perkins and Miller in rankings but I'd like to make some sort of defence here - yeah they're overpaid but they're solid veterans and can contribute when called upon.

Cap-wise, I'm in a great position. Minnesota will never be a lure, but if you look to the summer of 2015 I'll have $32m cap space to play with, to add to the core of Curry/Allen/Davis/Drummond. If the two bigs pan out as expected, by 2015 that's hell of a lure.

I might not have fully optimised every move but I feel I deserve some credit for winning a title with this franchise, and then turning that around into perhaps the brightest future in the NBA.

When inheriting this roster, we knew we were an aging team that definitely needed big FA acquisitions to stay competitive and to give Dirk the best shot at winning another title. Marion, Carter, Kaman, etc. just weren't going to cut it. We knew Mayo was going to get paid, so we took advantage by selling early. Clearing more capspace from the Marion trade, we thought for sure we would score big in FA. We saw some of the big names standing pat and felt overpaying for a tier 2 talent was only going to hurt is in the long-run.

We did the unthinkable by trading Dirk. I figured there was no point at holding him hostage with a gutted roster with little-to-no help. We approached this game building a true contender around Dirk but ended up "rebuilding" more so in a real life Denver Nuggets sort of way.

If there's one knock on my roster, it might be that we don't have that clear cut superstar. The way our roster was setup, a star PG would be the best fit. Sanders & Gibson form one of the best defensive front-courts in the game. Gallo is definitely a great 2nd option to have on your team, despite coming off a torn acl. DeRozan has proven each season that he improves his game. We expect DeRozan to take that next step and become the player most expected him to be. Calderon is definitely a solid PG. Though, the plan was to bring in an elite PG with Calderon off the bench, he can definitely fill the gap until that opportunity comes again to add a star PG.

Looking forward, we feel we're one star PG away from making a serious contender for years to come. The core pieces we have established are proven (for the most part) and are all still relatively young. With Humphries 12 mil coming off the books, Larry Sanders, Gallo, Gibson, DeRozan, 3 1st round picks in a strong draft, and prospect Giannis Adetokoubo shooting up the draft boards, we feel we're in great position to build a stronger team than we had before. We feel we can reach our goal and become a strong contender in the near future.

My Thoughts:
The Pelicans as originally constructed were young, but still years away from serious contention. I kept them young, but now have them positioned as a serious contender. Love, Bynum, and Batum form one of the best young frontcourts in the league. While the backcourt might've taken a step back, they are still players that complement the frontcourt well.

I'm not one to write a book about why you should rank my team high. It's not something that will change any minds. You'll rank us where you want. I am proud of the team I constructed. In all the GMAT games I've played, I believe this was one of the better jobs I've done. How that equates in the final rankings, that's up to you.

WRITE UP:

Lets get one fact straight. I started with the Sacramento Kings Roster.

A team with players such as Chuck Hayes, John Salmons, and Travis Outlaw, ALL deadweight.

With only one true asset in Demarcus Cousins (Who last time I checked is still a headcase, that hasn't really proven anything).

The new look Kings now feature the second best player in the NBA in Kevin Durant, a perfect complimentary second star in Josh Smith, and the very well rounded underrated Kyle Lowry. We have peices that fit with our core like Courtney Lee (3 and D), Nene (big man scoring/rebounding), and Alexey Shved (young do it all player). This is a complete team that can compete with any team in the league on any given night, will make play off runs, and is still very relatively young (most of our guys are entering their primes). Also, we are UNDER the luxury tax.

Every single game (GMAT), time after time after time, the Kings are ranked in the worst 5-8 overall. I brought a team from laugh-ability to a team that NO ONE would want to play in the playoffs. No one signed up for the Kings (or the Bobcats) this time around. I decided to take them because I wanted a team no one wanted with the worst possible roster. SURE, I might have had a small asset here and there over another team, but no team has had as much negative peices as the Kings. Most GM's saw guys like Thorton and Thompson as "bad contracts", not to mention, three amnesty candidates like Hayes, Salmons, and Outlaw. The pro's do not out way the "con's" here.

Clearly, I rose for the occasion, and turned this franchise around in the right direction.

To make a long story short, I made a formidable playoff team, probably a title contender, that I remotely young, has the second best player in the NBA, and a great secondary star in Smoove, all while starting with the most amount of Negatives and the Least amount of positives, combined. Why I should win?

Because I took a team with 3 assets (more like 2.5, nobody around this league cared about Brandon Knight) and turned them into a contender.

Better question…who wants to play with Detroit? Nobody requested the Pistons this game (myself included), and there is a reason why…very few assets to start with. Other than Brandon Knight, Greg Monroe and Drummond this team is hot garbage. Thanks to Joe Dumars, I also was without a first round pick in 2014.

Other than Orlando, every other team starts with more assets than Detroit:

For years Detroit has been in shambles. Crazy offseason signings, poor draft picks, silly trades, coach hirings & firings and player attitude based turmoil has left fans and the city wondering, “WTF?”

Since taking over, I’ve removed all bad residue from the past administration. Our team now has a winning caliber and a bright future…

2. Build a team that will compete now while still having a flexible and promising future.

Compete now…Let’s do a quick positional breakdown…

Tony Parker & Isaiah Thomas > Jose Calderon & Rodney Stuckey

Anybody who watches basketball should know that this is a no-brainer. I went from no-defense below average starting point guard to a top 2 point guard and MVP candidate. I also got rid of Stuckey’s toxic contract and poor production and replaced him with a young point with a ton of potential (1st team all rookie last year). Thomas will make a GREAT spark plug off the bench with his speed, size, shooting and athleticism. He can also play off the ball with Parker guarding the opposing team’s smaller guard.

Iman Shumpert & Manu Ginobili > Brandon Knight & Kim English

Again, this is a no-brainer. Shumpert is one of the league’s premier on-ball defenders and an emerging offensive force (over 40% from 3 this year). He’s also only 22 and has a ton of potential. Did I mention he has a flat top? Manu needs no introduction and is one of the best (if not the greatest) sixth man of all time. Yes, at this point in the game he’s getting up there in age, but we have the depth to spell him for the regular season. Even in the playoffs he’s only needed for 32 minutes a game. Brandon Knight is a lukewarm combo guard that is average to below average at everything. His ceiling is nothing more than a starter in this league. I would tell you about Kim English too, but he’s such a scrub that I don’t even have anything to say.

Wilson Chandler & Omri Casspi > Kyle Singler & Jonas Jerebko

In Gallinari’s absence, Wilson Chandler is now showing that he’s a very good all-around player in this league. He plays great D, hits the 3 and is a great rebounder for his height and position. He’s the perfect glue guy for my starting 5. Casspi is a decent bench warmer that has shown in limited minutes that he can D up and hit the 3 ball. I started with Kyle Singler, who while young has had a poor season and would not be starting on any team with credibility. I also got rid of the heinous contract of Jerebko.

Carlos Boozer & Dejuan Blair > Greg Monroe & Charlie Villanueva

Despite the fact that Greg Monroe is a younger and has a nice ceiling, Boozer is the better player NOW. Boozer has been the most consistent player for the Bulls this year (putting up 19/10 this postseason and has been healthy all year). He gets a lot of bad rap because of his contract, but he’s a still a very solid producer and will be no more than our 3rd or 4th option on offense. His midrange game will mesh well with Duncan and he’s no slouch on the boards. In addition, his contract will be an expiring the following year and will not deter us in flexibility. Did I mention I got rid of Charlie V, who has one of the worst contracts in the league?

Tim Duncan & Zaza Pachulia > Andre Drummond & Viacheslav Kravtsov

Andre Drummond has all the potential in the world and should be a perennial DPOY candidate in a few years, but we are clearly better NOW with TD and Zaza at the helm. Zaza has the ability to start and will play more than enough minutes so Duncan can rest. TD had a resurgent year this year, and was arguably the best C in the league. While Drummond might be a perennial DPOY candidate, TD was one this year and is one of the best bigs of all time. Vlacheslav is a scrub, nothing more.

Flexible and Promising Future…

The main downside to my roster revamp is obviously the loss of two high potential players; Drummond and Monroe, as well as Brandon Knight. While none of the young guys still on my roster are close to Drummond and Monroe in ceiling, it is just that…ceiling. My team right now has a very high chance of competing and making the conference finals. It isn’t fair to say that keeping both of these young bigs would have got us just as far, because it is a complete unknown. We’re making Detroit fans happy now instead of telling them they might be happy in 5 years.

In addition, Shumpert was drafted the same year as Knight and is already a much better player. Isaiah Thomas has shown potential to be one of the quickest players in the league and is a match up nightmare for opposing teams. He should be an above average starter in a few years, especially under Parker’s tutelage. Wilson Chandler is already a good player in this league and is young enough to stay with us for the foreseeable future. I also drafted 3 players who should play well in the NBA under the tutelage of my worldly vets.

Currently, we only have 10 million locked up after next season, so there is a ton of room for flexibility if Manu and Duncan decide to retire. My 50 million of expiring contracts will also help bring in capable players down the road.

As far as picks go, I did pretty well considering what I started with. I didn’t have a 2014 pick coming into the game, and while I still don’t, our pick would be a late 1st rounder anyway. I picked up multiple seconds that I didn’t have before and I have all remaining 1st rounders in the future.

Long story short, I have a roster that is ready to compete and potentially win a ship this year and next, while also flexible enough to reload or rebuild in the future. My team has no hindering contracts or players with poor attitudes, something that can’t be said for what I started with.

Just want to give a shout-out to Karma. I appreciate you not only commishing this game, but letting me play despite my lack of posts or experience. Also big thanks to BlackIce for vouching for me. My apologies to any GM that I may have pissed off in negotiations...don't hate the player, hate the game.

Review:

When i started with this Suns team they had a roster of old players still trying to push for an 8th seed and had no real stud or prospect to atleast say ok let him develop. I had to manually go out and land young studs on cheap deals to give this team hope and a future the city could really rally behind with upcoming players like Klay thompson, Bledsoe, Len, Ibaka, and ET. PER 36 Bledsoe is avg 15pts/5ast and is already heralded as a top 5 perimeter defender with elite athleticism. Klay is already showing us he's a stud and pure shooter/offball speacialist like prime Ray Allen and Allen Houston. Turner is still only 24 and has elite rebounding numbers for the SF position aswell as great size to play a point foward role like he did at OHS. Serge lead the league in Blocks and had the highest defensive efficiency rating. He's avg 13/8/3 all while playing along side ball dominant players like Westbrook and Durant so you can only imagine what his numbers would be as the the 2nd option on some nights (still only 23). Alex Len is a really nice prospect at 7"1 and has great fundementals/soft touch to be a Big Z or Valancuinas clone. So overall id have to say i did the best job of turning around a team and making them a force to be recon with now and in the future. Good game guys this was a fun GMAT!

Conclusion: If u look at the box score from houston vs okc game 2 u will understand what this team is. James Harden and not alot else.... Yes he does have parsons,lin and asik but the last 2 im not very high on and i know alot of you also feel the same way.theres no where to go but down at sg when you start with harden and deal him but i feel like being replaced by the 6th man of the year is an acceptable replacement. Absoultely huge upgrades at the SF and PF positions in Lebron and West and in my opinion fairly adequate ones aswell at PG & C where i now have players that can contribute on both ends of the floor in the from of Hill and Varejao instead of Lin struggling on D and Asik mightily on O.Amir is also a terrific big off the bench for me and i managed to only go 1.5 mill into the lux which i think is a realistic amount. This team is the 8th seed in the playoffs Atm, i belive that the team i created has the Talent/Balance/Winners/Depth to be the team to beat. Obviously the teams success revolves around lebron but i also kinda view my team as a Supercharged version of the pacers Hill and West doing the same thing they provide Indy,Varejao and hibbert being somewhat interchangable.JR is inserted into the sg role that the pacers struggle at with stephenson. And last but not least at Sf instead of paul george the guy running the show is lebron.

Write-up:

The goal of every NBA team is to win. Win a championship, win multiple championships. With two top 5 offensive players in the league (Carmelo and Westbrook), a top 5 defensive player in the league (Tyson Chandler), a superb up-and-comer (Shabazz), excellent shooters to kick out to (Korver, Novak, West, Jamison), and other proven veteran role players (including former all-star Gerald Wallace, Nick Collison, Raymond Felton, and Andray Blatche) this team has it all, on offense, defense, the boards, experience, youth, two superstars in their primes, and a future all-star. The Thunder are clear-cut champions this year and likely for the foreseeable future.

The Guards:

Russell Westbrook is undoubtedly a top 3 point guard in the NBA at this point. How many point guards (or players at any position) can say they average upwards of 23 points per game on solid percentages and average well inside the top 10 in assists year after year as a second option? Westbrook is only now reaching his prime and is seemingly more explosive year after year. You can make a case for him as a top 5 player in the league.

Raymond Felton is a well-traveled point guard that has experienced a little of everything. He should have no problem anchoring the second unit with his excellent passing and solid defense. He will likely see time with the starting unit as well.

Delonte West is more than an emergency backup- he has playoff experience and plays tenacious defense, while providing extra three-point shooting. What more would we want out of a third stringer?

Kyle Korver is a three-point bomber. He is going to drive defenses bananas when they are trying to focus on Anthony, Westbrook, and Chandler, and they just kick it out for Korver to get wide open looks. Every open look he gets from downtown pushes OKCs lead forward by three points.

Shabazz Muhammad just might be the second coming of James Harden, playing his role in OKC. He's a scorer coming off the bench and he can do a little of everything, but in the end it comes down to his scoring. Even though he's just a rookie, Shabazz is definitely NBA-ready and will absolutely contribute every bit as much as OKC needs him to. Perfect fit for this team, and not many top 10 prospects get to start their careers competing for titles.

Sundiata Gaines. I'm not even going to pretend I know anything about Gaines. Only reason he's still on the roster is because he was a last second trade filler and I forgot to waive him to sign a 51-year-old Michael Jordan or an 80-year-old Bill Russell.

The Forwards:

Gerald Wallace has been through it all. He was on those contending Kings teams in the early 2000s, with the expansion Bobcats, with playoff teams in Portland and Brooklyn, and now he's contending for a title in OKC. He'll find plenty of open looks playing alongside Melo and Westbrook, but his perimeter defense and his rebounding are his calling cards. Every team needs a defensive stopper on the perimeter. Wallace is our guy.

Steve Novak will do what Korver does, even better. He is an incredible three-point specialist. Our condolences go out to all who try to guard Westbrook, Melo, and Chandler with Novak and Korver out on the perimeter.

Carmelo Anthony is the reigning scoring champion. He has been on a mission for two years now, scoring at an incredible rate, and in real life is currently willing an injury-riddled Knicks team through the playoffs. He has plenty of chemistry with Felton, Novak, and Chandler, and is the #1 option, ready to finally win a title after years of trying.

Antawn Jamison is a vet who has spent so many years bouncing all over the league for a title contender. Likely on his last legs, he is still a very solid shooter to spread the floor a few minutes a night. Glad I can finally get my hometown hero to win a title!

The Bigs:

Tyson Chandler is the best defensive anchor in the entire league. A recent DPOY winner, the defensive-minded, yet stunningly-offensively-efficient 7'1 giant is ready to win his second title. He was the piece to put Dirk and company over the top, he is definitely the piece that brings this potent offensive group to a title. Chandler single-handedly keeps teams out of the paint, by altering every shot with his crazy length and impeccable timing.

Nick Collison is the ultimate role player. He's a hustle player to the highest degree and has a great feel for the game. Essentially the Shane Battier of big men, he's not going to give a ton on offense, but Collison will replace Chandler when he's off the floor with his terrific defense and board work. He's a decent mid-range shooter and can finish inside as well.

Andray Blatche is a solid big. There's nothing spectacular, but there are no glaring weaknesses in his game. He changed for the better since being known as a headcase in Washington, and will contribute wherever it is needed. His diverse offense will be welcomed off the bench as well as his rebounding.

Earl Clark had a breakout year in LA last year and we were able to snag him to play as an additional bench big man. He can do a little of everything- he can defend, rebound, and even hit shots out on the perimeter. He's everything you want in a big man.

How all the pieces fit:

There's no question Westbrook and Carmelo are the focal points of the team. Not only are they among the best offensive players in the league, both are decent to solid in every other aspect of the game, but neither players' defense is anything spectacular. So we brought in the best defensive player in basketball, Tyson Chandler, someone who's not going to take shots away from Melo and Westbrook but will still have a superstar impact on a game. We added shooters in Novak and Korver to keep the floor spaced at all times. Raymond Felton and Antawn Jamison were brought in as experienced vets who will play within their roles well. Shabazz will grow steadily, but will have a significant bench role as the primary scorer off the bench, a la James Harden. No team is complete without plenty of defensive-minded hustle guys, and Gerald Wallace, Nick Collison, Earl Clark, and Delonte West fit the bill perfectly.

Give me one team that can touch this level of play and I'll understand you not ranking me #1. :wink:

Team Outlook:
We acquired a younger PG who was a former MVP in Derrick Rose who we feel will come back from injury 2014 prepared to regain his place in the League as the premiere PG of the NBA and speaking of injury, Kobe Bryant suffered a torn Achilles that we feel he will be able to come from, key word "will" and Kobe has the "will" to do it, if Dominique Wilkins can come back from a torn Achilles to average 20+ pts/ game and still play above the rim, Kobe can...but it "will" take him some time and we feel Matt Barnes can hold it down until Kobe comes back and we feel he "will" be back in time for the end of the 2014 season just in time for the Playoffs and if we're able to make it to the Playoffs I feel with the expansion of Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan's game complimented by Jimmy Butler who is showing he is a highly valued defensive/ glue player in this League and a definite starter (contrary to some peoples beliefs) we feel we have put together a complete team from PG thru C with players who compliment each other perfectly. Tyler Zeller was acquired for a future backup big and has shown to be quite a solid starter in Cleveland so he'll definitely progress but even if not he's exactly what we need off the bench, quality hustle/ rebounding/ defensive player to go along with vet Jermaine O'neal. Also we held onto Kobe Bryant and his huge $30M expiring contract just in case a blockbuster deal comes our way. Overall the team has a core of Blake Griffin, Derrick Rose, DeAndre Jordan, and Jimmy Butler moving forward after Kobe retires/ expires OR whomever we manage to parlay Kobe into IF we were to trade him during the season to a team looking to cut payroll etc but we ultimately feel Black Mamba returns in time to mesh with team for a championship push.

I kept CP3 from FA. That's not easy to do given how many competitors I had and the surrounding talent they were offering him. (POR with Paul George, Jennings, LMA, Noah.....SAC with Melo/KG...etc). I upgraded from Hinrich to Andre Miller and Prigioni, both excellently experienced point guards who have specialties that add variety to the PG rotation: Dre with his post moves and clutchness (a la recent DEN/GSW playoff game), and Pablo with his defensive/passing IQ. He's been great with the Knicks, we have no doubt he'll be great with a similarly athletic team to work with.

SG: Arron Afflalo/Ray Allen/Tim Hardaway Jr >>>> Richard Hamilton/Marco Belinelli

Afflalo's way younger than Rip and has that lock-down 3 and D skillset which complements CP REALLY well. Ray's the 3pt champ (literally surpassed Reggie in #1 in all-time AND play-off threes made). That really lets CP attack and pass out for all those 3's....CP's just as good if not better passer than LBJ and Ray thrives with great passers. THJ is a very promising young talent, which we hope will develop under the tutelage of Afflalo/Ray. Rip and marco are decent, but don't complement CP as well in the backcourt. Afflalo's a better defender than both and Ray's a better shooter than both.

SF: Jeff Green/ Shane Battier/ Al-Farouq Aminu >> Luol Deng/Battier

Right now, I'd say Luol's playing better right now in terms of what he does as a glue guy, but with Green's recent explosion in scoring, and proving he can give LBJ, the best, trouble with scoring...that says a lot. The guy's an athletic freak and has been 6th in player efficiency since Rondo's out right behind Durant and LBJ. Battier's Battier. He's a D and 3 like Afflalo but in a more role-player position, and complements Ray nicely on the wings to knock down 3's. We have Aminu who we hope can develop in athleticism and rebounding for us behind Green/Battier and replace Battier when he retires. Green can defend and is more athletic than Luol, so I'd say there is still overall improvement here. Less scoring, but can shut down LBJ and...posterize the likes of Al Jeff/Bosh,etc.

PF: Chris Bosh/Markeiff Morris >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Taj Gibson/Bonner

Bosh was a key acquisition. He was a big reason CP stayed and I'm glad I got him to pair up with CP in wreaking PnR, PnP havoc (esp since Bosh has really developed his 3 pointer). Bosh returns to his natural position and can focus on offense with Asik anchoring the D/rebounding. Morris can hit the 3 too and is younger than Bonner who is somewhat one dimensional.

Asik is less injury prone. He's been a double double BEAST since starting. He can also block shots and is great in PnR if you need him to. He's an excellent rebounder, especially in offensive rebounding. Kaman and Mozgov bring more height to the rotation and legit 7 footers to foul Dwight for example.

Overall, I moved Deng/Noah/filler for Bosh + great complementary players in Afflalo (3-D), Green(Athletic-D), and Asik(Reb-D-O)...and a very deep bench. I pair two superstars in CP/Bosh. This team can do it all (better than Monta): run the floor, post up, shoot lights out, play airtight defense, rebound, and just fits really well in terms of roles and responsibilities on the floor.

***Please remember, I didn't have Rose to work with as an asset but the previous GM did a great job getting value for Rose. I worked with the other pieces outside of Paul to get a second superstar and really good well-defined skillsets in the other three positions.
