The behind the catcher angle is a shameless advertising gimmick. The giant Bud, Rogers and extra graphic in the middle are in direct view.

It's sad that they don't turn off the graphic for balls hit in that direction and then you get to see it get all distorted.

i thought this was the main reason behind that terrible angle, but they've used it on the road several times a game too, EE's jack tonight being an example. i remember them going to that angle in the detroit series too. i think it has less to do with the ads in CF and more to do with the producer simply over-producing the broadcast in a lame attempt to be innovative. i can't possibly fathom how anyone could think that that's a nice angle to watch a play unfold, so i also can't imagine the producer to be much of a baseball fan either.

as for the ads there is always 10-15 seconds every time a ball is fouled off where you can cut to that angle. but during a pitch? just **** awful awful awful.

I absolutely hate the behind the plate camera angle. Can't see ****! They should just incorporate the advert in the score-graphic or pitch trax. BoosterJuice-PitchTrax.

but I don't think baseball's a fun game unless they show people in the stands "having fun" every 5 minutes

It looks like they switched to the same director and producer who do Raptors games.

This is what I wrote to the Blue Jays TV producer a few days ago.

‏@LuckyChits 25 Apr @JaysProducer @Sportsnet @BlueJays Stop moving all your good people in the truck to hockey. Hoops and Jays fans suffer through mediocrity

@LuckyChits 25 Apr @JaysProducer @Sportsnet @BlueJays Or atleast show a replay from cf camera if you are showing behind home plate view.

@LuckyChits 25 Apr @JaysProducer @Sportsnet @BlueJays Do you guys have to do those wierd camera angles like with the Raptors?Details Expand Collapse

you guys seem to be missing the exact point of the backstop camera right under your nose, but that's okay i count it as a win for the people. it's not for the physical ads, it's for the digital ad they place on the batter's eye. (this is done along 1B too which has caused an abnormal amount of awkward cuts just before the pitch or as it's being delivered.) i have been complaining about this since the opening series, so i'm glad others are annoyed for whatever reason. email, tweet, better yet don't watch sportsnet whenever you can. rogers and bell already kill canadians with mobile fees this is the beginning of their cable "1984".
