We wanted him from day 1 to play like a role player, a catch and shoot, pass the ball, play within the offense type player and let Deron/Brook do the bulk of scoring. When he was overly aggressive, he was bashed for being a selfish ISO player and those days are over. I'm not sure exactly, what is the logic here. You're mad he's playing scared, then say he's a role player then say he never seeks to kill the defense...but he's a role player at best, right? They don't do that.
If you want him to attack more, I understand but that right there made no sense at all.
What? I think you're completely misunderstanding my point.
Bosh is a great player, but in MIA he's relegated to being a role player because he doesn't dictate the offense, LBJ and Wade do.The same thing went for Harden in the years he was with OKC.
Being overly aggressive does not mean ISO-ing all day. It means when given the ball, you attack the basket and try to make things happen. Overdribbling is not being aggressive. That shows indecision and a stifling of the offense.
For argument's sake, let's compare the 3rd wheel JJ to Bosh to Harden (when he was in OKC), since they're all role players in the sense that they're neither the first or second option on their team.
USG%
Bosh: 22.7, JJ: 21.7, Harden: 21.6
In 33.2 mpg, Chris Bosh averages 16.6ppg.
In 36.7mpg, JJ averages 16.3ppg.
In 31.4mpg, Harden averaged 16.8ppg
Per 36, that's 18.1points for Bosh, 15.9 points for JJ, 19.3ppg for Harden
TS%/eFG%
Bosh: .592/.546, JJ: .521/.493, Harden: .660/.582
ORTG/DRTG
Bosh: 114/103, JJ: 109/111, Harden: 125/105
PER
Bosh: 20.08, JJ: 14.14, Harden: 21.1
Playing as a 3rd wheel is supposed to increase your efficiency and shot selection since the defense has to worry about two other offensive weapons.
Wanna explain why JJ's efficiency is worse than every season since 2003-04 when he was 22 years old?
People complain about Bosh but he at least knows his role and takes over when the others are not present.
Idk how you can defend JJ.
Overall, he's sucked this season. Basically all metrics show that he's been nowhere near close to a star player this season.
Even as a 3rd member of the Big 3, he's been pretty bad. Harden and Bosh completely outclass him as a 3rd option. And what makes it all worse is how much money he gets paid to be a poor 3rd option.
I think we all expected D-Will and JJ to be the best backcourt or close to the best backcourt in the league. For a while, they both didn't play like stars. Now D-Will has picked it up, but JJ has remained his substandard self.
You shouldn't be paying a dude $20mil to play the way he's played. There's no excuse.
