I personally have a feeling something changes in the FO this off season... So I don't know if it's purely cocktail talk.
I don't know if PJ will be in the mix, but I think something may change. I wonder how much Mitch likes working with Jim without his dad involved?
That said, even if the worst happened and Mitch decided to retire, I don't necessarily think that means PJ is a shoe-in...

But when people bring up the rift between Jim and Phil, I keep going back to the fact that Jim went personally to Phil to ask him about coming back to coach. Mitch was more than capable of doing that himself especially if the supposition about Jim never wanting to hire Phil in the first place were true. It makes me think that if there is a rift, maybe it's more on Phil's side than Jim's. And if that's the case, would Phil really turn down a shot at a FO job with the Lakers if Jim offered it to him because of some disagreement with Jim?

Phil Jackson would be an amazing President. He's great at managing and manipulating difficult people. Hell, he could probably convince Lebron James to join the Lakers.

Phil has said he wants a FO position, similar to Pat Riley's... Pat's title is 'President.' As far as I know, the Lakers don't have a team 'President'...

Why not?

I think it would be great to get someone in the FO that has some knowledge about what it takes to be an elite coach in the NBA. The team is missing that 3rd voice they had with Jerry. And I think we'd all be happier with Jim taking a step back a bit to act more like an Owner and less like a GM.

I've heard the gripes about Phil and Jim not getting along... I think they were over-blown. Jim said he thought of Phil 'Like a Brother'... And he soon will be. Also, regardless of his past personality conflicts, you have to respect his knowledge of the game and how to make a team work.

I think there was some friction between Mitch and Phil, but as long as you have the roles defined, why not give it a shot.

I say Ok, but the condition would be he would have to coach one more season with kobe/dwight/pau.
