Jeff Weltman candidate for Suns GM job
Per Paul Coro, Suns beat reporter.
I have no material comments on the guy. Other than I can't see him getting the job given the taint everyone has with this front office right now.
But if he gets the job, maybe he can take Hammond along with him.

Hard to believe people in our FO are getting interest from other teams. Kohl must have given him a dazzling recommendation

Re: Jeff Weltman candidate for Suns GM job
What does Weltman really do for us?
Isn't he big on actually negotiating the contracts?
If I'm right on that, then I am fine with letting him walk.
Suns GM job might be actually one of the few in the NBA that is less desirable than the Bucks.
But when you factor in the weather, the Suns job probably still has the edge.

I hope he gets it. Would be interesting to see how parts of our front office do outside of Kohl. Not that Phoenix's Sarver is a great owner either.

Re: Jeff Weltman candidate for Suns GM job
From reading the interviews that Weltman has done over the years, I always figured Jeff was one of the more intelligent individuals in the front office. If he scores a job elsewhere, this Summer will look even bleaker. Did not think that was even possible, amazing. At least Babcock is still on the payroll, can't fire that guy.
Go Bucks!

Re: Jeff Weltman candidate for Suns GM job
Do most organizations have a guy like a Ron Walter or Babcock that have basically leveled out in the system for so many years? You figure the sign of a good team in any sport is when you have your proteges (assistant coaches, GMs, executives) moving into other teams and better situations.
Stagnant people seem like they would be mediocre. Not to mention that these types last under a variety of GM changes instead of having a staff fit for a particular GM. Look at teams like the Patriots, where just about all of their assistant coaches, coordinators, and executives went on to higher positions on other teams. Not all were successful, but they had the talent to be considered for that jump.

Hammond will be on WTMJ's Sports Central at 7:05 to address this. Not really, but he'll be on for what should be some fluff. Felt it was a good place to throw that in.

''John, the team has had 4 losing seasons in your 5 years here, do you think you deserved an extension'?" You won't hear that. Nor any mention of Harris.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Yeah, I would definitely say Weltman is the best person we have in the front office. Weltman has an expert understanding of the CBA, which is not only a definite plus, but an absolute necessity when you have a GM like Hammond who has demonstrated time and time again a horrifying lack of understanding of the CBA.

If Weltman possesses these skills, he's obviously failed at teaching others around the office.
