Nets and Billy King working on Multi Year Extension

Post#1 » by Paradise » Thu Apr 25, 2013 6:24 pm

The Brooklyn Nets are finalizing a
multiyear contract extension with
general manager Billy King, league
sources told Yahoo! Sports.

A formal announcement is expected in
the near future, sources said.

King's contract was set to expire this
summer, but talks have been ongoing
since the fall on a new deal.

After inheriting a gutted-out lottery
roster in July 2010, King has reshaped
the Nets into a 49-victory, No. 4 seed in
the Eastern Conference.

Not even sure how to feel about this at all.

The only good things he's truly done is find guys like Watson, Blatche, Bogans, Taylor, Toko, etc.

Is that really enough?

It's a sad day in Brooklyn and I'm beyond disappointed.

Such a poor short sighted decision.

I'm pissed

So Phil jackson lets it be known that he's only interested in a front office position and the Nets decide to extend Billy King (who I doubt is in much demand anyways)... Classic Nets.

I don't think Phil Jackson has to do anything with this, he's not looking to be GM, he probably wants a VP of basketball operations position.

As for extending Billy King, I'm disappointed as well. What's with the timing anyways, it would have made more sense to evaluate this after our playoffs exit.

It's everything to do it with. You think Jackson will take over basketball ops without even the option of picking the GM?

The whole point was for Jackson to have complete control on basketball matters and now with this signing Jackson is out the window. Can't believe it

...Unbelievable.

How does Proky not see how horrible he's been? Maybe we've been overrating him massively...if he can't realize that Billy King has done nothing but squander incredible assets with nothing to show for it but a second or third tier team whose ceiling is an ECF if they're lucky, then Proky is equally short-sighted and stupid.

Of course, now the whole "he took a lottery team to 49 wins in one year" spiel is going to be regurgitated by the media in order to justify it.

I don't hate it or feel disappointed. I do wish they took more time into making this decision.

We're a bench and PF away from being where we want to be. All I know is, this is his last chance.

Well, how do we know that this hasn't been discussed with Phil Jackson and done with his approval? Or that you're overestimating how much power PJax wants? Or that this has been done after PJax refused our offer?

It's going to be INCREDIBLY difficult to get that bench and PF, specifically because of Billy King.

I don't understand, how many chances are you willing to give the guy? BTW, I mean no offense, but since you weren't around last year, you probably wouldn't understand why so many people here are pissed at him.

As a Knick fan, you shouldn't talk when you have Amare's dead corpse on your books, Camby's glass body on your books for 3 years with Jason Kidd and the only bright spot player on the roster, you can't pay.

Not to mention for all of the things that have happened to the Nets, we still have a better team.

Laugh if you want too. You'll be crying for Lin soon or should I say JR.

We would have an ECF ceiling even with the right moves like the rest of the East.

All he has to do here on out is build a bench and get a good player at PF .

Even if we added a new GM what's going to change? What's done is done. Atleast his work now should be easier so to speak.

We're now a Top 10 valued market franchise making 530 million, I guess that's what motivated Proky here.

Long as Phil is the VP, that is all I care about because atleast Billy can be fired at any moment.

This is his last chance to pull off a good offseason.

Those are two conclusions that I came up with because there is no way in the world that Proky would just blow off Phil Jackson unless he already told them he doesn't want to come to Brooklyn or that he likes Billy King.

Otherwise, it's extremely idiotic timing.

Yea, we already know that Proky is going to go after PJax hard, so there is no way that this move to extend BK compromises that. Either we've been turned down by PJax or it's still on.

I'm posting this via android, I couldn't get the whole article from Yahoo Sports but it said, they were working on it since the Fall.

So, it has nothing to do with Phil I suppose unless they now agreed to it because they want Phil to coach rather than run Front Office which is downright stupid.

We can cut Camby after next year and Ama're's contract looks great next to JJ's.

I think any reasonable net fan would agree we're the much better team. C'mon now.

Well, plus side....FO contracts don't mean jack. Proky can extend him this year, and if he doesn't like him next year...he'd fire him on the spot.

MUCH better? No. Much better teams don't split head to head matchups, and 5 games in the standings isn't a HUGE difference.

But yeah, you were the better team this year, that's pretty undeniable. But we'll see next year, I think a healthy D-Will for a full season will make a big difference.

Let's not go too far now, I'd rather have JJ than Amare who spends most of his time on the sidelines. You're also not the "much better" team.
