Jazz to quench SG thirst w/tall glass of... O.J.

Post#1 » by QuantumMacgyver » Thu Apr 25, 2013 4:48 pm

According to Hoopshype, the Jazz are said to be interested in "going hard" for O.J. Mayo's services.

"What will the asking price be for OJ Mayo this summer? ---> Steve Kyler: hefty, hearing Utah could go hard at him. Twitter @stevekylerNBA

Not the biggest fan myself, but he would be an upgrade over Marvin/Foye. What do you all think about the rumor and what would/should it take to get him?

He has allstar ability but a 10 cent brain. He would be very good for the Jazz if and only if they have a very good veteran PG that can control the offense thus limiting OJ's sometimes questionable shot selection. I would think he would be looking for 10-12 million a year to go to the Jazz. I would get him only if the PG issue is resolved.
Play with the Pass, Play with a Purpose, and Play with Pace along with Obvious Unselfishness....Coach Snyder says the sky is purple than Jazz players say nice purple sky! LONG LIVE THE MAD SCIENTIST!!!!

As I said elsewhere, he's an upper-middle-class man's Randy Foye, and I think you all know what I think of Randy Foye.

Giving OJ Mayo a big contract would be a colossal mistake that would handcuff this franchise worse than Kirilenko's deal. At least AK was a productive player (when he played).

Second edit: The more I think about this the less I like the idea. He would be a horrible fit for this team; quite possibly the worst guy to target. I refuse to believe that Lindsey and co. would even consider bringing him in.

He signed a one-year deal with Dallas for $4M last year and then had a very pedestrian year. Why should anyone think he'll get $10-12M? He may be looking for 10-12 million, but hey, who isn't?

I don't see us "going hard" for him at all...... It's probably a leak from his agent trying to jack up his value.......

Well OJ was looking like a potential solid sixth man/fringe starter until mid march when Dirk got hot and they switched the offense and oj's role then told him to adjust on the fly and he failed miserably. With a full training camp and a defining what he's suppose to be doing then I think he can play the Jason Terry role which is his true calling and thats likely what Lindsey is invisioning with OJ. I can't see him getting a contract that pays him more than 5-7 mil a year at this point especially since teams will try to be conservative for 2014. At that price he is a solid addition and very tradable. Any more then we walk away from the negotiating table.

I still want to target Franklin and/or Crabbe in the draft regardless if their going after Mayo or not.

I would only want him at a certain price, and a limited role. I would be disappointed if we overpaid him. I think a bigger need is a defensive oriented wing. If we get a decent PG this off-season, we'll have more than enough ball handlers. We NEED need defense.

On second thought, if we brought him in here to be strictly our 6th man, with the right contract, I wouldn't mind that at all. Which would mean the end of Foye and Mo most likely.

I threw up in my mouth when I read the title of the post.

You give any one of Burks, Gordon or Marvin the number of shots (average 13 per game, 4 of which are 3 pointers) and they would give you OJ's offensive numbers. He seems lazy with a bad attitude on defense, and in general. No thanks.

Hayward had a significantly better offensive year than OJ Mayo by any metric, and Foye had a very similar year.

Did you see what his coach said about him at the end of the year: Basically that he gave up, and they didn't want him back.

He has attitude issues and has had them since he thought he was a big cheese back in high school.

He is the type of player that won't ever be on the Jazz radar. They will likely resign Foye because they probably allready agreed in principle last summer (Foye himself said they wanted to do a 3 year deal but the Raja deal prevented it) so O'Connor and company will likely follow through and sign him, although i think we should be going after Kyle Korver for 2/8 or 3/11.

OJ Mayo will never be a Jazz man.

Rather see Burks with Foye as a backup.

I'd rather see Hayward with Burks as a backup; with Marvin and DeMarre playing SF.

Problem is that Orange Juice tastes like crap! I don't want any part of him. Look at his low shooting percentages and poor defensive production and you will see why.

Especially drinking it right after you brush your teeth.

I would expect the Jazz to be involved in rumors with almost every FA this off season, whether it is true or not. They have tons of cap space and agents will use that to scare other teams and try to drive a player's value up.

And then walk away with nothing more than a couple token bench additions that keep us in the 7 seed- to high lottery pick range, cause thats how we roll!
