Will Magic Trade Afflalo?

Post#1 » by ArtursNaudins » Sat Apr 27, 2013 9:27 am

Hi, guys!
I was wondering where in your teams future concept stands Afflalo. He seems like nice player to have but he is already hitting his prime and your team is rebuilding. So would you trade Afflalo although he is hard worker and good locker room presence? What you would like to get? Expirings and future although late 1st round draft picks would get it done?
P.s. I'm really glad your team got competent GM which so important for team success :) because Warriors were struggling for years with bunch of idiots running in front office since Myers took over :)

fyi your title is ver misleading.. it sounded like you had insider info that afflalo was going to be traded. and yes we would trade him for young assets

What about Afflalo and Harington for Humphries and BRK 1st?

If Otis smith were still GM, I'm pretty confident that we'd somehow throw in Vucevic and two of first rounders. Thankfully that is not the case anymore. We have no need for Humph. We already have Glen Davis, Tobias Harris, Andrew Nicholson and Kyle Oquinn who can do it better. I'd be all for moving Glen Davis and Harrington for an expiring like Humph.

Any deal for Affalo we're looking for young talent and another cornerstone.

Eric Bledsoe, Eric Maynor...maybe even a deal for Tereke Evans.

It seems obvious that GM Hennigan will make a deal that brings in one or more young PGs, either through the draft and/or with trades. The log-jam at PF most fits that at the Magic end. But Afflalo is indeed an asset to trade away from a PG prospect.

For example, if the Jazz requested Afflalo for their #14, that would be the beginings of a package GM Hennigan could work with.

I was misled by the title but I would trade him if only we get to clear up the logjam at the 4 in the same package. So include BBD, Harrington, or Turkoglu with Afflalo and I am ok with it.

What about something like this?

We could bring in Pau at the 4 to teach Vuc some things since their games are very similar. Enormous expiring at the end of the year to clear up even more massive amounts of caproom. Lakers get a 3pt shooter which they sorely lack in Harrington, and a bruiser at the PF spot next to Dwight in Baby on a much cheaper contract than Pau. Saves them a lot of money next year in tax and also gives them a legitimate PF going forward. They could either cut Harrington or decide to make him an outside shooter.

Clippers get hometown boy Afflalo would could play either the 2 or 3 spot (having him and Jamal on the court at the same time could be pretty nasty with CP3 feeding them to shoot outside 3s). They aren't going to resign Bledsoe once they ink CP3, so he is almost def going to be on the move. They get out from Butler's final year as well. If need be, we COULD throw in Nicholson to give them more finesse around the basket if they want, though it might not be necessary.

Caron would simply be another veteran who could teach Harkless and Tobias some stuff and be another big expiring at the end of this year. We could then theoretically have almost $50mil in cap room next summer to go along with our draft pick this year, draft pick(s) next year, Moe, Tobias, Bledsoe, and Vuc!

Cripes man, Smith made some bad decisions, but they aren't worth making a meme out of. Or do people want to pretend they were never singing his praises back in '09-'10 when Carter/Ryan/Bass performed well?

I like Bledsoe but I would not want to take on the injured corpse of Pau and mess up our cap room for offseason next year. Henny stated he didn't want to spend mad money on unnecessary pieces, and Pau is just that.

That is worded perfectly. Beginnings of a package. Knowing Hennigan, he wouldn't do that straight up.

We aren't spending money on FA pieces. We are getting a ton of cap room. Throw in Turk in somewhere and/or other picks and I would be down for this trade. DH gets his Baby back and another vet who wants to win a ship.

Not sure if the clips would trade essentially Butler and Bledsoe for AA straight up like that. Might need another team involved in a trade b/w the magic and clips alone. and a separate trade with the lakers and magic

Yeh I don't think you read my post properly or did any research or something...not sure what. Pau expires next summer (one more year on his deal). We aren't going to do anything in FA this summer most likely (even if we do, this trade can occur after whatever we do). Henny isn't going to do anything LONG TERM like that, no. This doesn't affect us in any way cap-wise though, in fact it helps us. Plus, you haven't been watching Pau of late....he's been putting up triple-double type games recently. Everyone acts like Pau used to be some super-athletic big man or something...his game always was, and still is, based on finesse. Is he overpaid, sure, but that's kind of irrelevant. We don't want him as a building block going forward. He want him as an expiring and as a teacher to young Vuc, who could learn a lot from him. Like I said, maybe the Clips wouldn't make the move but we could sweeten it a little with Nicholson perhaps (although I'm not sure what other team that wants a starting PG is really going to give them anything they want back either...and they are prob gonna trade Bledsoe (hell GM of the Clips aka CP3 basically already publicly said so, lol).

Afflalo to the Clippers makes sense as Billups' career is winding down and he would be a good fit next to Paul. Harrington and Davis to LA-L only makes sense in that this is a mini-rebuild for the Lakers; dump Gasol and get a temporary replacement depth chart. For the Magic, yes the team gets its future PG in Bledsoe. Orlando does not need an expiring in the 2014 off-season, but this trade could be spun to extend Howard's TPE; those are always worth having "in the bank" so to say. Butler is meaningless to the Magic. He won't start and would probably become a pouting bench cancer. Maybe he could be repackaged to a team that needs competent SF services. The Spurs could be a good fit for him.

In the end, I do think all teams build for future goals with this sort of trade.

Problem is is that getting Pau Gasol hurts our chances at a top 10 pick in the draft in 2014 so i'm not sure that's something Rob Hennigan wants to do and hurt the teams chances on. Especially considering their is going to be much better talent in that draft compared to this years draft (2013).

Even though I was an AA fan, I so want to trade Afflalo and either draft McLemore or move Harkless to SG so Harris can play SF. Those two play well together.

We'd be too good to get Wiggins and too bad to be contenders.

Agreed if we trade Afflalo and Baby it needs to be for young guys or picks...The '14 draft is already starting to look really good and we need in on that in my opinion. I think getting guys like Pau and Butler put us back in mediocre land. We need to be patient and stink one more year, we get a top pick again and we could have a lineup that looks something like this come Fall 2014...

PG: (Free Agent PG Bledsoe perhaps), Jameer Nelson
SG: Andrew Wiggins, (Free Agent)
SF Tobias Harris, Moe Harkless
PF: Nerlens Noel, Andrew Nicolson
C Nic Vucevic, O'Quinn

Of course it could be any number of lineups, theres no real certainty but we could replace out Wiggins for Parker in 14 or Mclemore or Burke for Noel. Either way I think the future is looking good if we just stay patient, I don't want to see a 30 win Magic team...that accomplishes nothing.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

A couple options from Minnesota:

Williams/26
9/Ridnour

-The first is better for you from a talent perspective, but I realize forward isn't your biggest need.
-The second gives you a solid stopgap PG on an expiring contract and a second top-10 pick.

Thoughts?
