overall Packer draft comments
Overall mildy positive about draft. Rely on trust in TT. Still feel no solution at LT.
Guess they believe in McMillian.
I Jones- like him but preferred Sly
2 Lacy- OK if he stays healthy
4 Bakhtiarra – can he even play T in pros? More likely a G??
4 Tretter – maybe a C? Can he snap a shotgun flawlessly?
4 jon franklin – guess we’re giving up on Green too.
5 micah hyde -good pick
5 josh boyd – good pick – tough luck JJ
6 nate palmer - another de to olb project
7 charles Johnson – good pick
7 kevin Dorsey – no place but PS
7 sam barrington- a threat to Bishop? (green font)
what do you guys think?

I think Boo Radley just spent three days straight up trolling the rest of the NFC North by adding a bunch of weapons to the offense and depth to the o-line.

I think ur evaluation is kind of pessimistic. Lacy at pick 61 and u say "OK if he stays healthy". The value alone makes this better than "OK". Franklin another one, let Starks and Green fight for #4 emergency back and cut the other. Simple as that. Harris Lacy and Franklin has insane potential. A lot of ppl had Lacy and Franklin as the 1st and 2nd RB and we got them late 2nd and late 4th round. Just unreal value and potential, actually surprised there's a Packer fan out there not that excited about how that played out in our favor.
I can't really speak for anything else because this was a crazy draft and TT took a fair amount of ppl I don't know much about yet. I loved the Jones pick, had him mocked for us the night before draft day. Another guy with a sky high ceiling. Just my 2cents anyway.

Re: overall Packer draft comments
I really like the skill guys we got and where we got them. Those 'no resume' guys late are always weird to talk about. How are any of us supposed to have an opinion on Kevin Dorsey? We're not supposed to. Or Nate Palmer. I... like his 3 cone time?
Tretter seems like a really interesting C/G prospect. Jones clearly has a lot of talent.
Barrington's highlight reel makes him look like a giant strong safety.
Can't wait to see these guys get a chance to prove themselves.

Re: overall Packer draft comments
I really like this draft for no particular reason. It just screams value. Bakhtiari I think was mocked to us in the 2nd by Rang a couple of days ago. I know Lacy may have injury problems, but damn in the late 2nd round you love the value. Franklin is another kid that shouldn't have fell but he did. The Charles Johnson pick is one I love for just because of the boom/bust potential. It's a 7th rounder, why not take a chance.
They got a DE that they needed and solidified the OL a bit so I'm pretty happy. I'm shocked they didn't grab a safety but maybe they feel comfortable with Jennings/McMillian back there.

Not a big fan of this draft.
Like Jones fine. I think he'll be good.
Picked two RBs with fairly high picks, interspersed with 2 OL with no immediate NFL position, neither of whom project to be above average run blockers. Confusing to me. Not completely sold on either RB but both represented "value" per the experts. If you really want to enhance the running game, take Warford in the 2nd and Franklin in the 4th, rather than Lacy in the 2nd.
Hyde has a chance to be a good FS, not so much at CB.
Everyone else I know nothing about.

Im always a fan of hot TT runs the draft. That said I was hoping they would take a QB. Nassib seemed like a good fit in the 4th and Dysert was an interesting prospect that went late but whatever. I like Jones and Im glad they went all out to get RBs. With TTs track record with WR's Im looking forward to seeing what he got in the 7th.

Re: overall Packer draft comments
I absolutely love it.
Our offense has stalled in the playoffs the last two years - in large part to the running game. Lacy / Franklin are LIGHTYEARS better than what we have on the roster right now, and could end up having a major impact on our already awesome offense.
Don't know jack about judging o-line - but the two guys we got seem pretty good.
LOVE the two WR's we got in the 7th - specifically Charles Johnson.
Really excited for my Datone Jones sack dance - it goes like this:
First, I'm hammered drunk.
Then I jump out of my seat and yell - DAY TONE JONES - WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOO rick flair
Ultimately, if:
Jones can start and generate some actual pressure from the d-line
Lacy / Franklin run the ball like they did in college
One of the two WR's shows enough to make the roster, the other makes the PS
One of the two O-lineman actually plays as a RC, the other makes the roster but sits
And we get ANYTHING from 1 of the 3 other defensive players we drafted
I'm absolutely THRILLED with this draft

Re: overall Packer draft comments
1 - Datone Jones, DE, UCLA
Grade - A
Three down lineman who can be moved all over the line to be disruptive. High motor, high character, awesome pass rusher and his best football is most definitely ahead of him. We could not have made a better pick.
2 - Eddie Lacy, RB, Alabama
Grade - A+
Just wizardry, plain and simple. Lots of Packer nation and draft experts wanted/had Lacy to us at 26.... Ted managed to trade down in the 2nd round, gain an extra pick and STILL land him. One of the best picks, if not the best, in the entire draft. Wizardry.
4 - David Bakhtiari, T/G, Colorado
Grade - B+
Long arms, strong hands, good get-off, quick twitch blocker capable of countering bull rushers. This guy is capable of playing anywhere on the line. Initial thought was that the Pack saw a center in him, but after the Tretter pick, I think they see a tackle. This guy has the athleticism, pass pro and nastiness qualities necessary to succeed.
4 - J.C. Tretter, G/C, Cornell
Grade - B
One of my favorite sleeper prospects going into the draft, Tretter brings fantastic athleticism to the interior of our line. He is quick off the snap, displays quick/light feet. He has a mean streak, often pancaking defenders if he can smell that they are off balance. He's a former tight end, hence the athletic ability, but he also has room to put on more weight. Really smart kid, having went to Cornell. I see our center of the future here, after he learns the ropes behind EDS. He could be damn good.
4 - Johnathan Franklin, RB, UCLA
Grade - A+
Just another steal for the ages... Franklin was the best running back in this draft in some circles and was surely thought by most to be a 2nd round talent. He is fast, has great vision, does great in pass pro, catches the ball out of the backfield and has home-run ability. He is a near perfect complement to Lacy and a perfect fit for our ZBS. Tip of the cap to Ted for his aggressive approach to solve our RB problem. He was man enough to admit Green and Starks aren't going to work, and got the two best RB's in this year's draft. Gotta love it.
5 - Micah Hyde, CB/FS, Iowa
Grade - B-
Not a bad pick here. Hyde is a very good DB, who displays the things we usually look for in our secondary personnel. He is big, aggressive, a reliable tackler and a ballhawk. I, along with most, see more of a FS than a CB in him, but we will see. Either way, we needed some depth there and we got it. Solid pick.
5 - Josh Boyd, NT/DE, Mississippi State
Grade - B+
Loved this pick. Boyd is a big boy with a bigger motor and will provide some much needed NT depth behind Raji. It's hard to get these fat cats motivated, but Boyd has no issue at all there. He is hell to try and move and has a great knack for finding the runner at the LOS. Moar beef in the trenches is always good.
6 - Nate Palmer, OLB, Illinois State
Grade - C
Before today, I didn't know much on this guy at all. All I recognized was his name. Upon doing some research, he seems to be a good pick and a good fit for our D. Super athletic pass rusher. We really needed OLB depth, and I hope this guy can play and contribute early on. This has the potential to change to a higher grade down the road, for sure.
7 - Charles Johnson, WR, Grand Valley State
Grade - A
Awesome pick. Johnson ran a 4.38 40 and notched a 39.5" vertical at his pro day, which would have been among the very best in both categories at the combine. Just a freak athlete with good size. With some grooming, you could have a damn stud on the outside and in the redzone. The potential is honestly endless with him. To get someone this promising in the 7th is criminal.
7 - Kevin Dorsey, WR, Maryland
Grade - C
This guy is sort of opposite of Johnson in terms of where they are developmentally, as he is a very polished and smart wideout whereas Johnson needs some grooming. He, like Johnson, possesses good size and soft hands though.
7 - Sam Barrington, ILB, South Florida
Grade - B-
This guy is another fast, athletic guy that will likely be a depth LB and ST guy. With his measurables though, I wouldn't be shocked if he got some burn at OLB. It will be interesting to see where he fits, if he fits after parting ways with D.J. Smith.
Overall Draft Grade - A-
We got nastier in the trenches, totally cleaned house at RB and added some nice depth. I also love having a project WR in the pipeline. Pretty damn satisfied overall.

Not pessimistic at all - but questions that value doesn't answer. Value is draft speak that means nothing when TC starts. Mainly I see no solution to protect our $100+Million Star's blind side. We added two OTs that aren't projected to play OT to our three injured OTs - bulaga, sherrod, datko. I'd been happy w/ just adding Frankin OR taking Franklin and another back later and using the 55/61 elsewhere. But I do appreciate Lacy - IF - as I said he stays healthy.
BTW Didn't see your mock posted but good call on Jones. I also mocked Jones as our 1st - the day of.

Re: overall Packer draft comments
thanks for the overall thread, been waiting for it.
*datone is a guy i didn't pay attention to, but watching the tape looks like a great pick.
*lacy, obvious pick, great value, should start immediately.
*bakhtiari was rated much higher by some, he's got a mean streak. solid pick.
*know nothing about tretter.
*franklin, take it and run. could be a great 1-2 punch, and franklin can mollify the 'lacy injury' concerns. if one of the two turn out to be a stud, you did the right thing. if both, you're set, or you can trade one down the road.
*know little about hyde, know his speed isn't great but he's capable. and sounds like he likes to hit people hard. that's cool.
*boyd is someone i hoped they were onto in the fifth or sixth---think he's got 3rd/4th round talent. hope he turns out.
*palmer---meh. get on it, coaches.
*johnson---hell yes. thompson didn't jump on the hype receivers through the middle rounds. think johnson was his man the whole time. might be a minute, but he should fit right in.
*dorsey and barrington, they're seventh-round picks. we'll see.
the draft really came to them for the most part. value village. i agree there a qb would have made nice late-round pickup. very solid draft, if not very splashy.

Re: overall Packer draft comments
I think the "value" thing is overplayed. There are so many experts out there touting guys that invariably many guys you pick are considered "value". I've seen enough Packer drafts where the "experts" were amazed that Chuckie Webb fell to Green Bay in the third round or that Fred Vinson slipped into round two, etc. Obviously Aaron Rodgers is the exception to this.
I have no clue whether these guys are going to pan out over the next two years. You can find in McGinn's notes conflicting scout comments on every one of them. That said, I'm glad TT went D line, O Line and RB. Those to me have been our three weakest positions the past couple years.
I think this is going to be a significant make or break draft for the next 2-3 year phase of A-Rod's career. If some of these guys pan out, then Super Bowl number II for him is very possible. At least now I have the hope that we end up with a clear cut 1,000 yard, every down rusher if one of the two backs pans out and a good DE if Jones works. A great DE and RB have been two things we've badly needed.

Re: overall Packer draft comments
Datone Jones-Underwhelmed with the pick. I think he ends up a situational pass rusher. Wish we would've traded up or down. We have two similar players in Neal and Daniels.
Eddie Lacy- value wise it was a good pick, I'm just not sold on the fit. Also, hindsight being 20/20 and knowing we ended up with Franklin later, I wish they would've taken a safety here (Swearinger).
David Bakhtiari-I am sick of our light as a feather linemen so not thrilled. Still very raw and I don't think he sticks at left tackle. Hope I'm wrong.
JC Tretter-wont pretend to know a thing about him but see above. I'm guessing they think he can be a center.
Johnathan Franklin-Probably the best pick value wise. Won't surprise me if he ends up the better back especially for our system.
Micah Hyde-similar to Charles Godfrey. Was thinking he'd be a FS but so far that's not the case. Could end up a solid starter.
Josh Boyd-Seems like a good pick this late. Hopefully can be a run stuffer.
Nate Palmer-? Know nothing about him.
Charles Johnson-Boom-bust pick with no risk associated given where he was picked. Wish we would've swung for the fences more like we did with him.
Kevin Dorsey and Sam Barrington- no idea
I would rate this draft a C mainly due to lack of aggressiveness. I really feel like they drafted a bunch of backups. Wish they would've taken more risks. This would be a higher grade for a rebuilding team which we are not. Guess I'm a TT hater because I disagree with a lot of you guys.

I would rate this draft a C mainly due to lack of aggressiveness. I really feel like they drafted a bunch of backups. Wish they would've taken more risks. This would be a higher grade for a rebuilding team which we are not. Guess I'm a TT hater because I disagree with a lot of you guys.

Yeah, hopefully we've improved one DE position and the RB spot.
Outside of that, I don't see any kind of (even potential) near term upgrade to any position on the team.

Re: overall Packer draft comments
the term value is often a way of saying you got something nice that wasn't what you wanted. the 'value' of rodgers is obvious. the 'value' of lacy is nice (without seeing him step on a field). the 'value' of webb or vinson is perceived value because people thought they'd go higher. time will tell if it was real value. many here are probably satisfied with the 'value' of this draft, but would have preferred addressing areas of need boldly with higher and/or different picks.
