D-League MVP Goudelock Was Borrowing Money From Girlfriend Before Returning To Lakers

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Apr 27, 2013 11:18 pm

Andrew Goudelock made $475,000 last season as a second round pick with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Goudelock was cut by the Lakers before the season opener this season and went on to play in the D-League, ultimately winning MVP honors.

The Lakers signed Goudelock for the final two games of the regular season and playoffs following Kobe Bryant's season-ending injury.

“I’m broke,” Goudelock said. “I’m cool. Nobody would know that I’m broke. I just come here with a smile on my face.”

Goudelock averaged 21.4 points in the D-League and is now starting for the Lakers int he playoffs.

“This business just keeps getting crazier,” Goudelock said. “I wouldn’t think I’d be here two weeks ago. Nothing happens the way it’s supposed to happen. This is a great opportunity, going from the D-League a week and a half ago to starting in the playoffs. It shows you the nature of the business.”

Goudelock was living paycheck to paycheck after finishing up his rookie salary.

“I was so broke I had to borrow money,” he said. “I’ve had the same girlfriend since college, and I had to call her to give me money and she’s still in college, but I didn’t have any other choice. I didn’t want to call my parents. I’m too old for that. Some days I couldn’t even eat, and she sent me money. It’s definitely an experience I’m going to tell my kids about.”

Goudelock made about $1,200 every two weeks while he was in the D-League, while his per diem was $40.

the average american doesn't make in a decade what he made as a rookie. if he's broke after making 475k in a year, he deserves to be broke.

I really doubt that he gets 100% of those 475k.

40% state tax, plus agent fee, downpayment for a house, a new car... Money is gone.

did all of you forget he has agent fees and taxes to pay? on top of paying for travel/room and board because dleaguers dont have it like the nba players. $40 a day per diem isnt much.

Okay so 40% taxes on 475k is 190k, agent fee (max 4% in the NBA) is 20k, nice new car is 40k, rent for nice place in LA is 25k...that totals to 275k. That leaves 200k for him to live on. Who knows how he spent it--maybe he bought his mom a house, maybe he blew it on coke and strip clubs--but BrovvaB let's not pretend that a 475k income isn't a massive amount of money for a single guy to live on.

Plus this year he makes $2400 a month, nothing to sneeze at. And the per diem is just supposed to cover his meals and a couple of beers, it's not like he had to pay rent or fund his own hotel or travel with it.

I bet Glock has some jewelry though. Not hating. Next year Gloack should only spend 200k of whatever he makes. He needs to save!
