And, I know this is pure speculation, but Bautista just doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that takes criticism well. There are vets in that locker room, but I just get the sense that none of them are really leaders. In my mind, DeRosa is a vet, but one that hasn't won the respect to call that kind of meeting. This team has to be led by Jose and I've always questioned his leadership abilities. Another issue could be the Latino divide. We've all played on teams before and there are always groups of guys that hang out more together, so it's not something that I write off as silly to believe. Again, speculation, but when things go badly, the problems rise to the surface pretty damn quickly.
The big advantage Jose has is that he speaks English and Spanish fluently. This means that he can communicate with all the players, while another leadership candidate like Dickey can't.
It's never a good sign to see cliques forming in the clubhouse, and Jose is in the best position to prevent this from happening.
