What can you tell me about Will Bynum?
I'm imagining him as the starting PG for the Jazz next year. Just wondering how you estimate he'd perform in that role?
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Will is a solid guard. He is a combo guard without the height. Very streaky shooter, but can always get to the basket. He really thrived with Drummond, so I think he and Favors can have the same impact.

Re: What can you tell me about Will Bynum?
He's a good basketball player with tremendous heart, but he's not a point guard. He's a scorer, and sometimes gets assists off from dribble penetration. Not the guy you want coordinating an offense, but can really heat up and take over games at times. He almost beat Miami this year, pretty much by himself.
I'm not sure how he'd do as a starting point. My best guess is that it would seem like he was playing well but the team would under-perform.

I can't don't think bynum would make a good starter.
He is a shoot first PG. He gets to the rim effectively despite his lack of height. Not strong defensively, though he improved a bit this season. Doesn't have great range.
He's a good spark plug that can give you a big boost offensively off the bench.

Not sure he would be a good starter, but can be very effective off the bench as a scoring guard. Attacks the rim relentlessly, needs the ball in his hands. Can heat up quickly. Can play selfishly. Throws it down for a dude his size.

Bynum gets to the rim much faster than Robinson.
We undervalue him here because he's not great on defense.
If throwing a perfectly-timed lob from everywhere to Drummond was all Andre, why couldn't Brandon Knight do it?
Bynum is probably one of the best backup PG's in the league. He's just not consistent enough to start in my opinion.
I would love to see his numbers starting all year for a team though. If the Jazz view him as a starting PG, I'd watch based off curiosity alone.
Bynum can get to the rim almost anytime he wants to.

He'll infuriate you guys. He is by no means a pace setter. He'll run as much as he can. A great spark plug that can ignite a team, but also make it self-destruct the next game. One night he'll lead the team in assists, another he'll lead the team in points...but then you'll also get games where he leads the team in FGAs on low %s. . He's a tough little player who enjoy watching in small spurts.

Re: What can you tell me about Will Bynum?
I don't think the comparison to Nate Robinson is that bad. Will is better at driving and finishing, but of course (and it seems strange to say) but Will has some height on Nate. But I also think that Nate is the better shooter. Bynum is a lot of fun to watch and can bring instant offense, but is nowhere near starting caliber.

Re: What can you tell me about Will Bynum?
Similar to Nate Robinson like others said, but a better slasher/finisher and passer imo. Worse shooter. Bynum can be an incredible player some nights, and others a selfish ball stopper. When he chooses to be a playmaker and doesn't force contested mid range jumpers, he's one heck of a back up PG.
He has heart, toughness and he's really athletic...extremely confident in himself, which can be his downfall certain nights.

Re: What can you tell me about Will Bynum?
Nate 2.0 is accurate in terms of impact, if not style of play. Good scoring spark plug off the bench, but not a starter.
Lil guy is a warrior, can get to the rim and finish. He's capable of big offensive explosions and has even had a 20 assist game. But he's not quite good enough to dominate the ball as much as he does. His individual numbers may come out looking good, but he'll stifle the offense and is a liability defensively.
He did develop good chemistry with Drummond on the pick n'roll, and he's OK in transition... but in 5 years he's done little to show he's capable of actually controlling tempo or orchestrating an offense.
I'm actually a Will Bynum fan. I like watching him play. He's got a bit of that Zeke/Iverson mentality in the way he attacks. At times he's been our best guard and a fair number of people have wanted him to start. But he's also played his way out of the rotation under 3 different coaches. If he were 5 inches taller he'd be an All-Star SG instead of a backup PG. He's really a 6'0" two-guard.

Re: What can you tell me about Will Bynum?
Will Bynum is a player that can help your team as much as he can also hurt it. He tends to get tunnel vision at times because he's confident in his abilities to score, which is fine except when he's missing his jump shot or not finishing at the rim. Majority of defenders in this league will struggle to stay in front of Bynum, so pairing him with a athletic big that can finish at the rim is imperative. Defensively he's decent, and really good when you consider his lack of size.
I don't think he's starting PG material, however you could survive if need be with him at the PG spot. He is best utiltized playing 15-20 min a game off the bench with a athletic big(favors) and surrounding him with shooters. He has great court vision when he's looking to pass.

Re: What can you tell me about Will Bynum?
What I like about him is that I think that he could be talked into taking a 1 year deal with the idea that he'd step into a starting role. I'm not really looking to win games next year anyway.
But, reading this reply I get this impression.
"He's great. Scores at will. Can run the PnR. Has heart. Tries hard on defense. But, he sucks."
Lol. It's hard to get a good gauge on why he's not good enough to be a starting PG from reading this. He kinda reminds me of a poor man's Iverson. I guess without the range. But, for a stop gap PG he seems promising to me.
Tell me, if you had a gun to your head and had ot start either of Bynum, Mo Williams, or Devin Harris and you get shot if you lose the game who would you bet your life on for a single game?

^Bynum without a doubt. Also Bynum is 30years old. so he'll only be effective for another 3 years

Re: What can you tell me about Will Bynum?
with those three guards, Bynum might not play at all
you think Mo and Devin Harris suck, wait 'til you see Bynum
i get it now Jazzfan, you want your team to join the Wiggins bandwagon nxt year
then without a doubt, Will F***** Bynum is your main man

For one game, I'd take Bynum no question. His aggressiveness is off the charts, and I've seen him take over many games the past few years. The ridiculous comeback against the Hawks and the win against the Heat this year are just two examples. He also holds the record for points in a quarter(fourth quarter to boot) for a piston with 26, beating out Isiah Thomas. He's explosive.

Re: What can you tell me about Will Bynum?
Wildly inconsistent is the best way to describe him. One game he's playing like an All-Star, the next you're wondering why he's on the court. One of the beat writers calls him the Will Bynum Experience. And it is an experience.
He plays well when it seems he has to prove himself. Like when he's on the bench for several games for example. The instant he gets a chance and is playing a lot, he starts going all over the place and it starts hurting the team.

If your tanking hes a great PG for 50 games but just when you start to count the ping pong balls he beats teams and starts winning games.

Bynum fails to fight through picks so his man typically gets free on any pick and roll set. He's good at pressuring the ballhandler, but he doesn't always do it. He looks like he's conserving his energy for the offensive side of the ball.
Bynum is a scorer. He gets buckets. He will pass and get reasonable assist numbers, but I don't see him as a floor general who runs the offense. Will penetrates and lobs. Will penetrates and does the wrap around pass. Will penetrates, gets the man to leave his feet, and drops the ball off to his man.
Will has a pretty good jumper too. He doesn't suck. He is productive. He can be a defensive liability.
