Magic would consider trading top overall pick [Merged]
According to Chris Sheridan, if the Magic got the first pick in the draft, they would consider trading it to the highest bidder. Apparently Hennigan is high on Macklemore, Burke and Olidepo. What's the boards thought on this?

Re: Magic would consider trading top overall pick
It's just a rumor but Rob Hennigan is going to do the most he can to maximize the value of The Magic's pick.
If The Magic get #1, they might take Noel but if a team a tad below them offered some incentive like a future first, a young talent or maybe to take Al Harrington's contract, they should consider it.
There is going to be a lot of rumors and The Magic will have an even better idea of what they want to do after the lottery.

Re: Magic would consider trading top overall pick
That will be a bold move. there's no safety net on that. If Noel turns out to be a superstar then we will be THAT TEAM that traded a franchise player in the draft.

Re: Magic would consider trading top overall pick
Music to my ears if indeed Rob is interested in Trey Burke. However, hypothetically, if a team like let's say (just for example, not saying it's plausible) WAS was really high on Noel (like someone mentioned in another thread) and offered us Bradley Beal, you would be a fool not to take that.
I'm a believer in Rob's planning and vision, so whatever it is that they do I think we all already know it's for the best. I remember being a little upset when I found out we traded JJ for (then fairly unknown/unproven) Tobias Harris. That came out of left field so to speak so I have much trust in this regime thus far.

Is Harrington's contract really that bad? I thought he was only partially guaranteed? I may have it confused with Hedo. My bad in advance.

don't really see Wash trading Beal for Noel. Besides wasn't he hurt off and on throughout the season?

This I will completely agree with. I really loved JJ and you could tell he loved us.

I'm just saying, again hypothetically, that if Beal were offered to us, it'd be ignorant not to take the offer since he's already shown what he can do and glimpses of what he can be. Injuries aside, all in saying is that Noel is still very much unproven and his future/outlook as an NBA player isn't as clear as that of Bradley Beal thus far into his career.
Just my personal outlook on the potential situation, that's all.

Re: Magic would consider trading top overall pick
Magic would be better off trading the pick than risking the franchise on a player that is more likely to never be a NBA starter in Noel. Dude will be a bust.
Noel = Darko 2.0
Noel = Thabeet
Noel = Darko 2.0
Noel = Thabeet

Re: Magic would consider trading top overall pick
Not saying we won't trade the pick, but that anyone is posting rumors out of Hennigan's office is what I sincerely doubt. He was able to keep the Dwight negotiations secret, despite working with 4 teams (seriously did any of you expect what we got?), and the JJ trade secret (not that we didn't know he'd be traded, but again, to the Bucks? for Harris?). I don't believe anyone knows what Rob will do at this point and anyone who says they do is making **** up. That being said, I'm sure Rob will explore every avenue, including taking Noel, trading the pick, drafting McLemore/Burke ect.

I'd have to agree. From what I've heard from Steve Kyler (also an iffy "source"), Hennigan's camp will be on lock-down for the draft. Meaning no leaks at all, including possible draft targets, which is why I'm guessing that these guys just made this stuff up.
Rob has been (pretty much) a straight shooter since he's been in Orlando. Personally, I don't think he's the "smokescreen" type, so if he indeed said no leaks then I don't expect to hear/read any news unless they release it themselves.

Hennigan would never draft a guy like Noel. Not a player coming off of an injury like that. Please.
I would definitely trade down from #1 because the draft is so weak, but that's also why I dont see many teams wanting to trade up.

Seeing how Rob works, he will come up with different scenarios and options for the draft pick.

well, Hennigan has only had 1 draft, so we dont exactly have a track record of what Henny would or wouldnt draft. And if he thought Noel was the best, and that missing part of the year helps in a high pick for next year, it is very plausible.

Yea just a speculative story. Of course Henny and Co. will listen to offers if they get the top pick...

You guys talk about trading down like it's so easy. This isn't the NFL where it's much easier to trade up and down. You RARELY see teams trade up or down in the NBA draft, especially in the Top 5.

in just the past few years i can remember a few, off the top of my head: tyrus thomas/aldridge, mayo/love, foye/roy... pretty sure those all involved a top 5. top overall pick is probably really rare though.

Exactly. All these people act like they know Hennigan personally or something. We know he likes age and experience over potential, because he took Nicholson over Sullinger and Jones. But then again, he really liked Harkless - a young, raw player with good potential.

Anyone believe it that Ben is Henny's guy?
