Who are the Center Options if we deal Pek?

I'd hardly call it "hate". Plenty of Blazers fans think he's overpaid too. Hell, you seem more excited about the guy than they do.

Ideally I'd like to snag someone with our lotto pick to hold down that spot.

"I don't want anything to do with him", "Massively overpaid", "he doesn't do anything for me" -- all of that screams hate without actually saying the word. Maybe you were over-exaggerating, but still, I just wanted to put some context into the discussion.

And while we're at it - shouldn't Kirilenko be considered overpaid considering he regularly plays in only 75% of the schedule?

Agreed - that would be ideal, however doubtful that we'll find a long-term answer with the lotto pick. Let's hope we luck out for once.

Yeah, Kirilenko might be overpaid due to injury concerns, but worst case we only have to pay him 1 more year.

Maybe I exaggerated somewhat with Batum. I'd value him at around $7-$8 mil/year at his current production level. Pek I'd be happy at around $10-$11. Now maybe Batum really improves and maybe Pek develops big injury problems. Who knows?

These sort of $10+ mil/yr but less than Max contracts are tricky in general. Most guys that get that kind of money are overpaid. Sometimes you can get a steal though like Joakim Noah or Rondo, but most of the time it isn't cost effective compared to true max players and rookie contract guys and even a lot of MLE guys. If Pek really likes it here and will give us a "hometown discount" at the price I mentioned above I'd be ecstatic, but IDK if someone throws $14 mil at him. I don't see any point in trading him for another overpaid guy though.

Ok,Now put love up on the block & tell adelman that Timberwolves are going with D=Will....Adelman will retire.
Immediately bring in Stan Van Gundy to coach, then sit down to lunch with Taylor , Van Gundy & Saunders with Howard.
Taylor has a way with sitting down for lunch with players.
Trade Pek & 1st round pick for batum.
either keep Love with Howard or make run for Affalo

Howard Steamer
Love Dante
Batum Chase
Shevd
Rubio Shevd

Fill in blanks as necessary, Howard wont play with D'Antonne and Van Gundy love Howard in pick and roll.

Heck I would consider paying off Adelmans deal if waving Love around dont run him out.
Think there still paying Rambus, but thats another Khan mistake.....whatever it takes Stan Van Gundy MUST be brought in now.
How you guys like Adelman to come back next year and something happen with his wife during season ?
This is BIG chance for Timberwolves.

Flipper could step in. But Stan is key to acquiring Howard.

I think there's an intangible cost that can be very high when it comes to dealing (or letting walk) great locker room guys who love to be part of the team and are really close to their teammates. This isn't fantasy basketball; these are real people, and that sort of thing can wreak havoc on chemistry. Look at how Boston never recovered after trading Perkins... from a pure basketball perspective, that trade made sense, but it was a locker room disaster.

We have a borderline-all-star-level center who is thrilled to be a T-wolf and is the heart and soul of the team in many ways. I think we should keep him and strive to find other players who will have that same mindset.

Pek- Love get ate alive defensively, I really like both players, but together ?
If wolves decide to keep Pek seems they would need a guy like Favors.

Where are you getting this stuff? Dwight Howard hates SVG. They fired SVG to try to salvage keeping Howard around. Pek & Love are not the most formidable defensive big guy tandem in the world, but getting eaten alive is a stretch. Pek + Love offensively compared to Favors + Love offensively seems like way more of a differential benefit than what we'd be saving defensively.

Love + pek is the best rebounding PF-C duo. Offensively they might also turn out to become the best.

Give the man his 12 Mil and then trade him later on if it doesnt work out.

I think that was steamer replacement, not Pek. There was never talk of him starting for us but just as a back up.

Flip knows Steamer fairly well, and he was just partying with Ricky, JJ, Chase, Dante and Lou in Puerto Rico, he may not be going anywhere.

SVG had only good words as Howard left for LA, They rode the deal in Orlando till it didn't work anymore and were successful.
Lots of times guys don't realize how good it was till there gone.
Timberwolves have much better chance than .....Taylor has a way of sweet talkin players and if they could somehow do a deal for Batum prior to meeting with Howard they would reel him in.

I couldn't help but wonder about that too, but I couldn't see how it'd work. I think we'd need to bring Pierce in have any chance at convincing him. So I'm thinking first Boston would have to buyout Pierce and trade KG to us with everybody under the understanding Pierce is going to sign w/ us. I don't know the cap situations for either team, but I'm assuming AK would have to turn down his option to make this work and we'd have to sign and trade Pekovic.

Seems like a lot of hoops to jump through for what'll be a 36 and 37 year old coming into next season for a ton of cash when we can just bring back our guys Pek and AK.
