Please do not try and rationalize that you are the only GM in the league that has to try and win now. You' aren't.
He's had 5 years, a couple of top 10 lottery picks a long with some decent to very good players and expiring contracts to work with while being able to spend up to the luxury tax every season. He has no **** excuse as to why he couldn't put out a consistent winner by now, he's been given a lot more to work with then most GM's.

Exactly.
Yep. Just look at the teams that missed the playoffs. Bynum was out in Philly. Wall was out in Wash. Toronto may have hoped for the playoffs, but didn't have any real expectations of making it after going 23-43 the season before despite a couple additions. Detroit, Cleveland, Charlotte, and Orlando all knew they weren't making the playoffs before the seasons started.
This season was pathetic.

I "and1'ed" this. That's what we're supposed to do now, right?

Re: Hammond on WSSP
Hammond isn't good at whatever his job is. Truth.
However, I worry that if we focus our energy on Hammond, Kohl will use him as a fall guy to deflect attention from himself. And for many (even many here), that will take the scrutiny off of him for a while.
Remember - Bag Night was incredibly embarrassing to Kohl. The media was ready to call him out on his 20 years of futility. But then he immediately fired Harris, which shifted all the attention away from him and his incompetence.
So whether Hammond stays or goes, we have to be careful not to avert our eyes from the man behind the curtain.

Why can't Hammond come out and say we traded Harris for JJ because Kohl said get JJ any cost (if that was the case)? Seriously, if Kohl forces Hammond to do something why can't that be public knowledge? Do people think Hammond has a gag order and can't say that this move was made under orders of Kohl?
he has said that over and over!!! you act surprised he hasnt come right out and accused kohl for his meddling. would you publcially question a boss beyond simply stating his goals? would you do it if you liked your job or only if you wanted to quickly get fired for cause?
I guess I have more balls than you and Hammond. If you don't have the guts to come out and say Kohl is making these moves then why does Hammond even hint at the subject? If Kohl was my boss and said I want you to get rid of Harris and get that JJ guy I would say the owner thought it would be a good idea to add JJ to the team. Tell me, what is wrong with that? You think Hammond can be fired for cause by coming out and saying the owner requested I make this move?
Hammond is (to use the word you like to call people) a pvssy if Kohl is making him make dumb moves and then forcing him to publicly take the blame. And if this is how things are run do you honestly think that is Hammond's dream job? Seriously, you think Hammond's dream job is to me a yes man and fall guy for an owner that makes his look like an idiot? People that hate their boss quit their jobs everyday. If it was true that Hammond is being Kohl's b1tch, had any guts and was any good at his job he wouldn't have signed that extension and instead would have went looking for another job. Hammond had a choice and he took being a yes man and fall guy over being a real NBA GM. And this comes from a person that has quit a job because of how he was treated by his employer. And when I did it I didn't have a few million in the bank like Hammond does.
I will also point out that other GMs and coaches have quit and walked away instead of taking the money. I guess Hammond isn't that guy.

Well, he probably doesn't mind being Kohl's lackey. Everyone seems to really like Kohl as a person, so not wanting to call him out might stem from this. So he takes a bunch of crap from some "irrelevant" dudes on a message board while being propped up by the media. And gets paid handsomely to do so. Yeah, it's lacking in integrity if true, but money will make people do some odd things.

Re: Hammond on WSSP
I wrote Larry Harris around the end of his tenure here, basically calling out the ownership for meddling. He (provided it was him) said pretty much the same thing Hammond says now:
The company "fall guy policy" seems not to have changed. Remember, Harris had to take the blame for firing Porter, when it was ownership all along.
(This doesn't absolve Hammond of course.)
Thanks a lot for the email. There have been some reports recently about our organizational structure - but I have the ability to make changes if I feel it will improve our team. Senator Kohl has given me the financial resources to do that over my five years as GM. There are many frustrations with the performance of our team up to this point in the season, but with our home schedule improving after the two road games this week we need to win now before we are out of the playoff race in the Eastern Conference.

That's where i'm at. Clearly Kohl has a win now mandate, but Hammond isn't good at it.
I'm in this camp to some degree- but you could make the hindsight is 20/20 argument. I think He relied on his Coaches who weren't playing Tobias - thinking he was too big a liability on defense and a tweener who didn't really fit. To oppose that you could say, but he picked the Coaches. Then you could say that Kohl mandated... -
Bottom line - Hammonds has drafted pretty well for where he picked. He has made several mistakes. Kohl may or may not have been behind many of those moves- certainly he "mandated" the past and current agenda. = (SUM) Kohl needs to sell the team to a younger person/group who takes a "building" approach. Whoever he picks as GM/Head Coach - they will be just YES- men with the puppet master being HK. It doesn't really matter if it is Larry Harris, Hammond, or ?? - they all will have to follow the same agenda. Blaming Hammond to me is like blaming Ronald McDonald for a bad cheeseburger.

You can blame Ronald if he was the one that made the cheeseburger.
They are both to blame. Kohl for demanding win now and Hammond for sucking at it.

So, Hammond is the guy who gets told he needs to make the cheeseburger. Fine. It won't be gourmet, but it can at least be mildly satisfying. Instead, Hammond has pooped on the bun, put nacho cheese on top and handed it to me, the fan, to eat.

Re: Hammond on WSSP
GM is always supposed to be the buffer between the public and the owner.
Owners veto/approve deals all over the league and that's the truth.
GM's take the blame and get the credit when things go right or wrong. Just the way it is.
But Hammond has more control over what he brings to Kohl and who he inks when he's got money.
This offseason scares the crap out of me.
