lol at bringing Chris Bosh to Orlando. There are 3 valuable picks in the 2014 draft right now. The rest are unknowns. Just because there are 3 potential stars and people call it a great draft class, doesn't mean guy 4-30 are going to be good too. That said, no team in their right might that thinks they're going to be in the lotto next year is trading anything lower than an 8-12 protected pick. Is the 13-20th pick in 2014 going to be better than the player we could draft 1-4 this year?

Would Cavs consider Noel for Thompson?

I'm not sure how much Noel will be better than Thompson? That's assuming his knees can hold up long NBA seasons with inevitable added weight and nightly battering his body will get by playing NBA center?

If Cavs can be lured by Noel's potential, we can snatch Thompson and one of draft picks they have (let's shoot for 2015 Memphis 1st). I didn't have a chance to see much of Thompson, but he seems like a good fit next to Vučević and I like what Harkless/Harris/Thompson could do defensively.

Honestly, if I'm Henny, I'd give my best on selling Noel to Utah for Favors, but that seems unlikely.

While I really like what Thompson has done for us, it would be a PR disaster for you guys to make that move.

Mannn I do not know about this Mclemore kid, while it would be nice to have an athletic wing for once, but other than his athleticism, he sounds no different than our past SG's. Can't create, little bit undersized, can disappear in big moments.

But every player has a question mark, but I still think Noel by far has most talent, god I can't wait for lottery and combine for we can hear more info

Obviously you never know who will declare until a lot closer to the draft, but the 2014 draft is more than a 3 player draft. Wiggins, Parker, and Randle may get most of the publicity, but there are many more impact players that will potentially be available. You have the Harrison twins, Willie Cauley-Stein, Marcus Smart, Gary Harris, Aaron Gordon, Glenn Robinson III, Mario Hezonja, Isaiah Austin, Wayne Selden, James Young, Mitch McGary, James McAdoo, PJ Hairston...all with a chance to be special NBA players.

2014 is top heavy, and deep.

i guess that's why you look to get a pick this year, as well as an unprotected pick in next year's draft. any mid-late lottery pick, plus an unprotected 1st, gives you a nice opportunity to hedge your bets and still be in with a few more ping pong balls in next year's draft.

you could target teams like the Clippers or Celtics, who might lose key players and drop significantly. you could target teams like the Bucks, Raptors and Wolves, which have tendencies to make bad deals, and are always on the cusp of playoffs or lottery. you could target a team like the Suns, who never seem to really value draft picks. or, perhaps there's a team which will really fall in love with Noel?

i think Sacramento could be a team we could swindle. they're a lottery team, but they already have a 'star' in place, so in their eyes they may just be 1 key addition away from the playoffs. their franchise is desperate to put a winning team on the floor to get attendance up. and their window for cap flexibility is closing.

SAC: Orlando 2013 pick (Noel) + Afflalo
ORL: Sacramento 2013 pick + Sacramento 2014 pick + Salmons

Noel
DMC
Tyreke
AA
Thomas

plus, they have enough cap space to pursue a major FA. that team should have enough potential to make the Kings confident that they can turn things around, and willing to gamble their place in the 2014 sweepstakes.

and, if we really want to pursue more draft picks, we could go on to:

WAS: Sac 2013 pick (6)
POR: Okafor
ORL: Was 2013 pick (8) + Por 2013 pick (10)

Hey Guys,

Portland fan... What about takinga couple of contracts off your hands plus the #10 pick for #1? Maybe something like Afflalo and Harrington or Hedo (although he only has 1 year left and I'm not sure what the guaranteed portion of that is). It's a long shot I know. Just looking to see how close it may or may not be. Thanks!

I think that while many of us would be more than happy to part ways with Afflalo, we consider his value to be a bit more than just "a [bad] contract" like Harrington and Hedo. Timberwolves fans, for example, have expressed interest in trades centered around Afflalo for their #9 pick.

Orlando is financially served simply by waiving Turkoglu. Harrington is still a bit of an asset and would not be dumped in a trade-down.

But yes a trade could happen. Let's say the Magic win the draft.

Orlando's #1 and Harrington for Portland's #10, Meyers Leonard, and a future protected first is the kind of deal that is believable.

i don't think we're that desperate to offload bad contracts, especially since they mostly expire after next season, but how about:

POR
in: Orlando 2013 pick (#1?) + Okafor + AA
out: Portland 2013 pick (#10) + Wes Matthews

WAS
in: TPE + Harrington
out: Wasington 2013 pick (#8) + Okafor + Ariza

MIN
in: Wesley Matthews + Ariza
out: Minnesota 2013 pick (#9) + Roy + Ridnour

ORL
in: picks 8, 9 and 10 + Roy + Ridnour
out: #1 + AA

why?

Portland - they get a defensive C on a one year deal, with the option to re-sign him for cheap afterwards. they get a defensive C of the future, with Noel. they get an efficient off ball SG in AA to replace Matthews.

Washington - once they cut Harrington, they'll be $16M under the cap, with room to offer a MAX deal to any of this year's FA's. Howard/Smith/Jefferson/etc.

Minnesota - they get a quality veteran SG and SF to add to a team that needs reliable veterans, and they get out of Roy's deal.

Orlando - get 3 picks in the top 10, move Harrington's deal, get a back up PG, and add Roy to play some spell minutes at SG.

So a RealGM poster just posted a trade that is not even possible through any means. Maybe you meant a 2014 1st and a 2016 1st

This isn't a bad trade, not sure if Henny would go for that unless one or more were for the 2014 draft.

I have a feeling it's possible on draft day, if the deal is announced and made after Sacramento's pick, so they avoid the "can't trade back to back picks" rule. Plus, they're getting a pick in return, and I'm not sure if that nullifies it or not.

Sheridanhoops: Magic want McLemore

Post#80 » by Skin » Sun May 5, 2013 10:43 pm

Joe Kotoch reports:

The big news here is this: Sources around the NBA have told SheridanHoops that if the Orlando Magic or New Orleans Hornets win the lottery, they both would be strongly inclined to trade the pick to whichever fellow lottery team wants to pay the most for the right to draft Nerlens Noel.

The caveat for Orlando is that it does not want to lose out on Ben McLemore of Kansas, whom it covets the most, or Trey Burke/Victor Oladipo as a fallback. And it’s not that the Magic don’t like Noel. Rather, they don’t need him, already in possession of a top-tier NBA center on a rookie contract in two-year veteran Nikola Vucevic. Same with the Hornets and Anthony Davis.

http://www.sheridanhoops.com/2013/05/01 ... draft-2-0/

Do you buy this?
