Tobias not a lock to start in 2013?

Apparently came from the Orlando Sentinel. Let's all hope that the Magic don't cling to the veterans again next year, hopefully both Afflalo and Davis are gone by the beginning of the season.

Alot will change between now and November. If he doesn't start expect Harris to be our 6th man, bust his butt in the gym and be even more productive. bringing him off the bench as a 6th man might even be the way to play him, slide BBD to Centre or keep Vucci off and bring Harris on to go at their reserves. That way we get to keep developing Harkless and have his wing defence. Im not saying it's the way, just an idea

I'd put the chances of Tobias Harris NOT being in the starting lineup at 0%. If the coach wants to start Afflalo and Baby, Tobias will be starting at SF (where he is supposed to be anyways) then Harkless will be a 6th man playing behind Harris and Afflalo. Harkless is behind (playing/production/etc) all three of those guys anyways.
A smart coach once said, "Potential just means you're not good enough yet." Playing on potential is like living on air: It's essential, but if thats all you have, you're eventually going to starve.

The Magic may not want to stunt the growth of exciting prospect Maurice Harkless at small forward

Tobias is an exciting prospect...

Starting or not, I'm sure all of our young guys will get plenty of minutes.

If Harris isn't starting Game ONE of the next season, Vaughn should be fired on the spot. Davis? Sucks. End of the bench. Afflalo? Black hole. Maybe a 7th or 8th man on THIS team.

I assume Harris would start over Harkless assuming BBD starts.

Vaughn fired on the spot? Whoa!

Is it that serious? I guess any wrong move he may make you want his head...

Ideally we trade either BBD or Afflalo and let both Harkless or Harris start. I agree with the premise on this though, if we don't I'd rather Harkless be the starting SF. I think in order for him to develop he needs to play with the starters to develop more consistency. He is more reliant on the players around him then Harris, so to me I would rather play him with better players. Harris is a much better option off of the bench being the #1 scoring guy off the bench. He can produce without good players next to him consistently while I don't think Harkless would be able to do it consistently.

on a good team, tobias is probably a top-tier 6th man, in the vein of harden a few years ago. problem is, this is not a good team -- the people that would be starting ahead of him really shouldn't be starting either.

Why would they come out and say BBD sucks, of course Harris will start!

For one they want to motivate Harris to work hard in the off season and of course they want to keep BBD trade value as "high" as possible. Just a big smokescreen as usual.

Today Davis would be the projected starter at PF. Harris will have to earn it. But he might be the starter at SF. And he might be traded. There are far to many details for the bobble-hand fans, such as me, to project anything.

Harkless would come off the bench before Tobias if it came to that. Still think Afflalo gets dealt before preseason.

I would prefer him at SF. While he had a speed mismatch at PF, he was taking too much of a beating.

Why would Harris be traded?

So, Davis earned it because he's the veteran or is it because he's better?

I'm not sure why they wouldn't say "neither Harris nor Harkless are a lock to start next season", instead of singling him out. They're both interchangeable at the 3, and Harris has competiton from Davis at the 4. Either way, both will get 30mpg.

drsd has this irrational preoccupation with "experienced" guys having "earned" a spot. his preseason depth chart had vucevic and nicholson as third stringers and harkless as fourth string behind quentin richardson and justin harper.

I honestly would be surprised if Afflalo is on the team still come training camp especially if we do end up drafting Ben in the draft this year. Plus I think Afflalo should be traded either way anyway as I feel he really should be on a contending team and not on a rebuilding one. He clearly was really frustrated last year with all the losing and I think kinda deserves to be on a contender ( I like that Bledsoe for Afflalo trade someone brought up in another thread).
