It's over blown, I mean I understand the nba, sports media and news outlets reporting and praising, but to have te president personally call you and congratulate you on coming out is over kill.

Anyways,

It's been overwhelmingly positive,
Except for the Chris broussard line.
And oh oh oh

Mark Jackson our coach hahaha.
I think he said something like:
I'm a Christian man, so I have ideas about what's wrong and right.... Ill be praying for Collins and his family.
xD
Didn't know he wasn't fond of gays.

Dwight doesn't want outside pressure on free agency...you're in the wrong business bud. Prepare to be hated even more, almost feel bad for the guy.

and1GS wrote:Ya, I don't see this as being an attention thing or it being 'too convenient.' I don't think he planned it like this, I think he was finally just like 'welp might as well start the dialogue.' Good for him, but again, tbh, I really don't care about this topic. Do whatever you want but I'm really not the type to get up in arms about a social movement or debate.

Kind of annoying how everyone from CNN to ESPN is blowing this up to be the biggest news story of the year. I was more intrigued that Tebow got cut than I was when I heard about this...

It is a big story though. Jackee Robinson. Not a typo.

Maybe not attention whoring, but definitely convenient, and that weighs on me. My brother in law, coolest guy in the world to me, is braver than Jason Collins. He too works in a field dominated by men, a man's man's job, as a garbageman.. and he let them all know on day 1. That to me is brave.

But Collins? Eh... claims he ended his engagement in 2009, and he knew about it then. Coming out at that time would be brave, because he was in the 'peak' - relative term - of his career then. He had something to lose. He doesn't now. If he didnt say he was gay, would anyone really give two craps what Jason Collins was doing? His career would end with a whimper and he'd join Felton Spencer and Jake Voskuhl on HowTheHellDidIManageAMultiYearNBACareer Island. Now he's getting calls from the President and is the hottest topic since Manti Te'o's girlfriend.

The whole 'bravery' shtick is for guys to face what's in the locker room, not the media. The media will paint you to be the greatest person ever, because its important that the first gay active player is a good person. But the actually brave part - facing your teammates, facing free agency, facing judgement that can affect you in a negative way - Collins ducked all that. So no, I dont think he's brave, or a hero, or a pioneer of any sort. He's the same as Jon Amaechi and Kwame Harris, coming out after their playing days were over.

When did all this become about what level of bravery Collins is displaying?

Screw that. He's making it easier for the next person to consider following their dreams. I don't need to measure his bravery and hold it up to some yardstick in order to appreciate his action.

I don't think that a fairly low-key guy like Collins suddenly turned into a fame-whore. I think as with any big decision, there were probably a lot of things swirling around and something crystallized it for him. My guess is that he wanted to make an impact while he was still technically an "active" player, because he might not be by next year -- not so much to benefit personally in any way, but just to advance the normalization of people like himself.

Yah...this is all I took from it. He started the dialogue, that's all that really matters.

Not sure about a "fix", but the Thunder without Westbrook are having problems.

We're officially the best team in Cali this year.

Re:Collins

Absolutely we should measure him with a yardstick if the media is. The point of an active player coming out is that they have to deal with things ACTIVE players would deal with - the locker room, free agency. Even retired players have to face media scrutiny. Amaechi did. Kwame did. Why is Collins propped above those people? He's likely out of the league before this announcement.

That has nothing to do with Collins himself, but the media and how they portray these people. Instead of giving out the truth, they prefer a romanticizing story. Which is complete bull :censored: . I see actually brave people come out all the time with something to lose, and seeing how the media portrays Collins is a slap in the face to those people.

In ex-GSW news, who had Nate Robinson and Marco Belinelli leading their team to a playoff series win?

If the Bulls can get healthy, Rose or no Rose, I think they can cause some problems for Miami, no joke. Nate is a legit player in the league, Butler is extremely solid, and Noah is an anchor. Chaps my ass to this day that we passed on him for BWright

Miami's on a wildly different level than Brooklyn. No matter how scrappy they are the Bulls might just win one game but they're not a threat.

Very satisfying to see CP3's playoffs end with an ejection caused by his own dirty play. With the Lakers out early, the refs are killin it this year!

Apparently it was Joey Crawford who ejected CP3, which has set off a discussion on the general board. Whatever you think about the ejection, or Crawford, this thread is worth reading just for the vids and gifs:
