He's a one on one player who, when he gets on a roll, like he often does, is unstoppable.

He'll get into modes where he'll pass the ball, but often is in the "I'm shooting the dang thing all the time no matter what" mode. He's a great lob passer when he has an athletic big man - so he'd probably fall in love with Favors.

He also makes all the other players on his team stop moving on offense, because he's not a ball mover and he'll freeze out the other guys on his team, even though he's otherwise a great guy and a great non-complaining teammate.

The worst thing about him is that for whatever reason, even though he plays very hard, he's about the worst defensive guard in the league. Every ballhandler penetrates at will against him, and he doesn't have the length to close out effectively on 3 pt shooters.

Hes an instant offense guy. As a starting PG, you would be lucky to see him get 5 assists a game in 30 minutes. Team ball movement would go way down unless you're running the triangle next year or have a Point Forward.

Looking at Utahs salary committments and roster, i'm guessing you're hoping for a rebuild and are hoping for fill-ins in some spots. I would draft Erick Green, or some Pg with the 1st round pick.

Then look at guys like Jameer Nelson, only if Utah can get a 1st for taking him on.

But if you want to throw money at Will Bynum, then do so. But i doubt he takes a 1 year contract.

But, reading this reply I get this impression.

"He's great. Scores at will. Can run the PnR. Has heart. Tries hard on defense. But, he sucks."

Lol. It's hard to get a good gauge on why he's not good enough to be a starting PG from reading this. He kinda reminds me of a poor man's Iverson. I guess without the range. But, for a stop gap PG he seems promising to me.

Tell me, if you had a gun to your head and had ot start either of Bynum, Mo Williams, or Devin Harris and you get shot if you lose the game who would you bet your life on for a single game?
Bynum. He's not as "solid", but if I need a homerun he probably has the best chance of having a huge impact game. He's also going to be a better value. Not sure at his age he's gonna want a 1 year deal though. He may take less per year to secure a 3 year deal (2 w/ player option or something). I really dunno. He's not really a sexy name and may not have a lot suitors, which sounds like you are counting on, but he'd be a solid pickup for a playoff team looking for depth or some insurance.

Well, how much would he make in that hypothetical 3 year deal? 6-8 mil?

What if the Jazz offered him 4 mil and a chance to start for 1 year. Don't you think he'd jump at that over the 3 year deal backing up Russell Westbrook (whoever)?

I don't even know if the Jazz have interest in Bynum. I've never really heard anyone have interest outside of myself. But, I like what I've seen of him and would like to see what he could do with a starting role. If you look at a potential Jazz lineup

Bynum
Hayward
Mo Williams
Kanter
Favors

There really isn't a lot of scoring there. It might be good to have a guy like Bynum that can score the rock. Hayward can run the offense a bit and Favors would be a nice lob target for Bynum.

Honstly, I doubt the Jazz go this direction, more likely they give Mo Williams a 3 year deal instead. But, if I were running the team I think I'd rather pay Bynum 4 mil to run the club for 1 year than Mo Williams 16 mil to run it for 3.

If throwing a perfectly-timed lob from everywhere to Drummond was all Andre, why couldn't Brandon Knight do it?

Bynum is probably one of the best backup PG's in the league. He's just not consistent enough to start in my opinion.

I would love to see his numbers starting all year for a team though. If the Jazz view him as a starting PG, I'd watch based off curiosity alone.

Bynum can get to the rim almost anytime he wants to.

This is hands down the best post on this thread. I would add a few things tho.

Bynum has a lot of hearth and he is a warrior. He worked his butt off to be in the league. He came to Detroit as a 3rd stringer, has always been vastly underrated but never caused any kind of trouble. The guy has 2 invaluable attributes, character and hearth.

The problem with him has always been he is extremely insecure, so whenever he has a chance to prove himself he will try to do more than what he is supposed or capable of. Let me give you an example.

Will Bynum was out of the rotation then Stuckey got injured. Bynum stepped into the backup PG role and played magnificent basketball for a couple of weeks. When Stuckey was ready to come back and ready to take Bynum's minutes, Bynum went out of control and had a couple of disastrous games reducing his role and minutes once again.

This example happened over and over again during the past 5 years. Detroit has had a serious problem with Joe Dumars. He tried to make Stuckey into a PG and Stuckey has been his sacred cow, no matter how bad he played he always got minutes. Same thing with Knight, no matter how bad he played he always got his minutes.

Will Bynum has always been the better of the 3 and has always been the one who played the least of the 3. When given confidence and assured he would have minutes he played extremely high caliber Basketball.

If Utah sign him and make him a starter he will be an amazing sign imo. The guy can play, he is a very good but underrated player. He has been one of the best backups in the league and is on par with guys like Ramon Sessions, Andre Miller and Jarrett Jack production wise.

I hope he comes back to Detroit tho so I hope Utah stays away from him.

Will Bynum is a terrible PG. He is a scorer and sometimes gets into a zone and starts looking good.

Will needs the ball in his hands to make any kind of impact on the game. If he has the ball in hands more than anyone else on the team, then it's obvious that the team is going for the best possible lotto pick.

It's funny to read words like "warrior" etc that are being used to describe a 30yr old NBDL type PG. I guess it's just a product of watching (a little too much of) mediocre basketball.

All Will Bynum should be is a 8-9th man on an average team. He is just someone who needs to be out there for 5-6mins a game.

I can see Dumars and him wanting to be loyal to each other and getting a 3 year/$9 mil done that way. I could see the Lakers showing interest. I just think at this point in his career he'll be more interested in job security then a starting gig on a bad team for a year.

Bynum is a very underrated backup PG. Being he plays behind two other PG's, he gets inconsistent minutes of which affects his play.

Agreed, people tend to forget what inconsistencies do to players.

Or perhaps you are forgetting WHY he get's inconsistent minutes? He's been beaten out for minutes by 2 guys (Stuckey & Knight) who were so bad at the position that we tried moving both of them to SG. And Will still can't get consistent minutes? Maybe that is on him. Is it just a fluke that he's played his way out of the rotation under 3 different coaches?

I agree consistency is beneficial to players, but the onus to earn that consistent role falls on the player. And we have a pretty large sample size to judge him on. A sample size in which he has, at various times, been given a consistent role with extended minutes. If he fails to produce consistency in those opportunities and that results in a lack of consistent playing time, it's kinda, I dunno... backwords thinking to then claim that inconsistency for his lack of productivity.

I totally agree of Bynum's short comings that are listed, however, what's not listed, is that he's the only player on the team that can consistently take over a game at Will :clown: . What's not being mentioned in everyone's assessment, is that there isn't a dominant wing player on the team that he can defer to in clutch situations. Remember, Bynum is brought in when the starting guards can't get it done! Not just for a breather. He has single handedly out-played other teams best "star" player at times and yes alot of it was ill-advised low percentage shots, but who else on the team could do better?

Like other past Piston players, Will Bynum, if not re-signed, will come back and haunt the current roster. He'll come back with a chip on his shoulder feeling as though he was snubbed and would want to prove that no current guards can hold him. Commentators will talk about "what a bone head move" by the Pistons to let him go because he will excel on a contending team with a legitimate wing player/s. I'm a fan and always Will be

Stuckey we moved to 2 because he was never a PG in the first place, Knight moved to the 2 temporarily because we acquired a proven veteran PG.

I do agree that onus to earn consistent play falls on the player though, 100%.
