I don't know if I buy it, but I agree with the logic.

Re: Sheridanhoops: Magic want McLemore
Not to sound like a butt head, but I think someone already posted this in another thread and I believe that several posters have already said that they don't believe this including myself.
As I mentioned in the other thread, Steve Kyler (HoopsWorld) an iffy source did mention that Orlando brass would not be leaking any type of hints at who they're looking at or who they're even planning to work out. Apparently Hennigan and Co will be on complete lock-down for this draft unlike Otis (live video stream in the war room).
I'm not sold on McLemore at all. I think he's a one-trick pony and I was really turned off that he didn't show up for the tourney. Trey Burke (National PoY) on the other hand essentially played only 1 half and kept his team in the game throughout. You don't have to teach Burke how to play with passion, leadership or with a sense of urgency. So I'm really pulling for us to draft him.
1. Burke
2. Noel
3. Oladipo
4. Zeller
5. McLemore

Yes, this is the same guy in the article that has Trey Burke going to the Pelicans. last time I checked, I am pretty sure Vasquez had a break out year at the PG position.

NOH fans arent that high overall on Vasquez. They think he was a 1 year wonder like Collison and that he got torched by opposing PG's that he just cant keep up with.

huh, I did not know that. His stats were great. How did his stats compare against top level PG this year?

vasquez is terrible at defense.
i am not buying the magic being high on mclemore, not after these reports of his former coaches getting money, to get him to come out

aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

Hornets fans want Greivis to pack his bags today rather than tomorrow.

I don't understand why. He was a steal for my fantasy team. He had decent averages at close to 14 ppg, 9 apg, and 4 rpg and a PER of 16.34. He was 9th in the entire NBA in assist/TO ratio and 8th among point guards. He's only 2 years into his career and was 3rd in assists in the NBA. I don't watch many Pelicans games, but I recall really loving his passion for the game while at Maryland. He seems like someone who would fit well into the culture we're trying to build.
I might be missing something, but I'd be encouraged if my 2nd year point guard was as productive as Vazquez was. Even if his defense was shaky, in my very crude perception of Vazquez, I wouldn't just ditch the guy. I'd work with him in the offseason and work on his weaknesses. Every team can't have Chris Paul or Tony Parker.
Is the reluctance to invest in Vazquez related to his age? Someone fill me in.

Vasquez isn't probably anything more than a career backup. I'd love to have him, but as that, not my hopes for the future.

The main problem I have with Burke is his defense, but a good team defense can cover that issue. Magic did have one of the best defenses in the NBA in 2009 with Meer at the helm.

That was my quirk too but then I keep thinking we have Moe and our team defense should be way better overall. That and the games I watched of Trey it didn't seem like he had much trouble guarding opposing points? Idk maybe I just watched all the right games lol

Skin wrote:Joe Kotoch reports:The big news here is this: Sources around the NBA have told SheridanHoops that if the Orlando Magic or New Orleans Hornets win the lottery, they both would be strongly inclined to trade the pick to whichever fellow lottery team wants to pay the most for the right to draft Nerlens Noel.
The caveat for Orlando is that it does not want to lose out on Ben McLemore of Kansas, whom it covets the most, or Trey Burke/Victor Oladipo as a fallback. And it’s not that the Magic don’t like Noel. Rather, they don’t need him, already in possession of a top-tier NBA center on a rookie contract in two-year veteran Nikola Vucevic. Same with the Hornets and Anthony Davis.

Do you buy this?
Yes.
An asset an Burke makes more sense to Orlando than Noel. The Magis is very deep at PF. And the greatest need is at PG.

Trey doesn't need to be a great one on one defender if he is taught to force his man to the right or left of which Moe is providing help sort of like how SVG would funnel players towards Dwights strong side.

Having a player like Dwight downlow is much different than forcing players to Moe's side, it will create a mess and everyone will be out of position rotating late, like this season, Moe can't pick up the pg's problems when he's already guarding the best players on the court

You really cant compare guarding college PG's with NBA PG's either way for me it wasn't his defense I had a problem with (Even though I do think he'll struggle guarding PG's in the NBA) it was how he struggled trying to execute against taller, more athletic PG's which are plentiful at the NBA level.

Magicman is on point (no pun intended) filter a PG to a wing will just cause chaos, we will end up with switches, defenders won't know if they are dropping, hedging, doubling. It would pretty much give the offence what they want. remember as an offensive player you are looking for a commitment or a give from your defender, whether that be a reach, a reaction to a dribble, backing off, stepping off, that's what you want and try to force, switching and filtering creates that in abundance, especially with young players

This draft is slowly turning into a nightmare.

I have to agree
On the other hand, we wouldn't be able to blame our GM if in fact the pick doesn't pan out knowing how sucky this year's draft is...
