Re: Draft prospect early editon ***Updated Polls
I disagree Len is a good prospect, at 10 I would take him without question, I hope he drops because of this injury hat should take 4-5 months to recover.
He is big long, good hands, post up ability, scoring down low,17 foot J.Showed promising rebounding/blocking, but was mishandled by the shoot heavy terrapin guards.
I am comparing him to a Roy Hibbert/ Jonas val.
Obviously it depends who is on the board but I would not be bothered by taking him and would take him over CJ MCC.
We can always trade him or Meyers if it comes to that.

Re: Draft prospect early editon ***Updated Polls
This is how I think t goes and who Portland should pick when there.
1. Orlando -Ben McLemore
2. Charlotte -Nerlens Noel
3. Cleveland -Otto Porter
4. Phoenix -Victor Oladipo
5. New Orleans - Trey Burke
6. Sacramento - Anthony Bennett
7. Detroit - Shabazz Muhammad
8. Washington - Alex Len
9. Minnesota - Caldwell Pope
10. Portland - Steven Adams
I think Adams is being underrated alot and does everything we want. he is & feet tall, Defensive presence who gobbles up shots and rebounds. He is raw on offense but is a good catch and finish could develop into an Omer Asik or get on the fast track like and Andre Drummond. He is who I would pick at 10 if those above are gone. I can't wait till he works out for us and come the Draft combine.
Steven Adams Had a better Off Reb Def Reb and Overall Reb % and Blk % not to mention Def rating, Lower USG and higher PER, playing only 5 less mins per game. Drummond is shorter but longer and quicker and jumps better but Adams is still quick and athletic. He is my riser for the draft.

Re: Draft prospect early editon ***Updated Polls
The player to watch is McCollum who apparently is going to be healthy enough to
workout for the lottery teams. If one of the lottery teams like Detroit or NO
thinks he will be another Lillard, they'll take him with their lottery pick. Another
player to watch is Dennis Schroeder who reminds a bit of Kevin Johnson who
prior to being the mayor of Sacramento, was an explosive PG for the Suns. If
he can show he can shoot in the workouts, he'll be a lottery pick.
Pointless to do a mock draft prior to the actual results of the lottery but I
would be surprised if Portland picked Adams. Adam's is at least two years from
seeing the court and there should be one player amongst Shabazz, Len,
Zeller that will fall to Portland. Portland really can't carry another project
big unless they deal Meyers Leonard in a deal for a big.

WTF is with double posts?
After writing the last post, I hit post ONCE and got a message "you cannot make a post so soon after your last" and checked to see it had already posted twice.

My pick. Scouting report.

I know people think we will trade the pick, but it looks pretty slim we get any takers for a center. If we keep it, we should go BPA and a little need like last year with Lillard, in Adams. I am not saying he is gonna be a rookie of the year, or that he will show great things his first year at all, but in his second and third year he will be BIG.
I think he will have a Ibaka type of projection/development. If the Leonard project fails he will get full reigns, kinda like Jeff Green/Ibaka. Ibaka showed with work ethic you could improve offense, he can now hit a 17 foot jumper with ease. I'd roll the dice.
Probably more Asik than serge but with better Blk%

Re: Draft prospect early editon ***Updated Polls
I expect Portland to bring in all the big men and hopefully can pair them up against each other for a true comparison but I know that perhaps at best they can bring in two at a time maybe twice if they're lucky just because of the players agents and how they schedule them.
Adams may be the one but in workouts my guess is that there will be more polished players that may look better in whatever fundamental testing they do. But that doesn't always translate into the best player to draft. My hope is that maybe we'll see Adams against Len and Dieng against Gobert, then Olshey asking that one from each column come back together for a second comparison.
I'm not holding my breath on it happening that way though.

Dieng and Adams would to move up, Len is injured so no. Usually you do that once for high competing prospects. Like Beal and MKG last year for the 2nd pick.
You don't have to make them go head to head though to get your evaluation of each, just see who did better in interviews/workout/Combine. Last year we had Meyers go up against Zeller and took Meyers.
If we could lure Little Zeller to go against Adams Zeller would probably look better because of his IQ and foot speed/work. Adams is an in game player and you really just have to see him work it that way since he is so bad at everything on offense. I really see Adams and Dieng as a Leonard/Zeller one safe one risky with high rewards.

Re: Draft prospect early editon ***Updated Polls
I can't say I'm all in on Adams but I am very intrigued. I'm also intrigued by Whitney and Dieng. I see one of those guys falling to the mid-late twenties so maybe we take a guy like Shabazz @ 10 and package our 2 best 2nd round picks for that other big. Also lets say a team like UTAH really likes someone at #10 (maybe MCW) and we are not quite there. Maybe trade #10 and #45 for #14 and #21. We take McCollum and Dieng or even package 21 and #39 and #40 to move up and take Gobert or Adams. Ultimately I would like to see us leave the draft with McCullum/Shabazz and Adams/Gobert/Dieng/ Len or Whitey. So bench scorer and rim protector center. One of each and I am happy.

I played the lottery simulator and Portland drafted Shabazz at #10.
That's quite ironical when you remember the first posts on this thread.

Yah, played it several times as well and Shabazz is the pick most of the time. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope comes up next. I think I would prefer him to Shabazz. No matter how much I run it, Oladipo never gets past #9. At this stage, I think I might even take Oladipo at #1 if I was GM.

Re: Draft prospect early editon ***Updated Polls
I'm still waiting for scouting videos to come out on Gorgui Dieng, and Rudy Gobert. I want to know what they could bring if the Blazers were to target them.
As of now in terms of people I'm checking out that I believe to be in the draft range for the Blazers, I'm not very impressed so far. At this point last year I already wanted Lillard, but this year I'm still undecided as of right now I'd rather trade the pick to get someone who can help the team now. But I'm trying to be fair because not all the videos of prospects in the late lottery haven't came out yet.

^ There definitely aren't 10 guys I like and I would like us to trade up. Last year we all wanted to move up from 11 to 7 or 8 to grab Drummond or Barnes or Lillard whichever one was going to fall. I think we'll see something similar this year. I really hope that we move a few ancillary pieces to move up and grab a more impact player. I'd much rather have an Oladipo, Porter, Shabazz or even Zeller over guys like Olynk and Plumlee etc.

Well, I still want to see the whole picture on some prospects, and those two I mentioned earlier are center prospects as I'm not sure how well the Blazers can do in the off season getting a compliant one. Like I like to look at video of them, read what people who know them best say about them, and what people are have objective views that scout them say. And so far what I'm looking for is incomplete.

Isn't the Suns owner really concerned about saving money? Kind of Donald Sterling-ish? I wonder if the Blazers could take on some productive players with bloated contracts to move up to #4?
Cap space + #10
bloated contracts + #4
Winning!

It'd probably have to be Beasley that we'd have to take on. Steep price to move up 6 spots but depending who falls there I'd consider it.
Return to Portland Trail Blazers
