If Ty's staying then...

Post#1 » by StocktonShorts » Tue May 7, 2013 8:57 pm

... we need to see some changes in his staff.

This was inspired today by this article which was already linked in the Ante Tomic thread.

I'd love it if the Jazz could land a really good defensive-minded coach, even if he's just an assistant. I'd absolutely love for them to give Alex Jensen a look. He's one of my all-time favorite Utes and I'm pleased to hear he's having success in coaching and making a name for himself.

bring blatt. let him be an assistant for one year, and have him take over as head coach when corbin's contract is up. even though the article says he won't take an assistant coach position, he might do it if he gets the "randy foye handshake" that he'll become a head coach within a year.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

That seems like an arrangement doomed to fail.

I don't think it is a question or not if he is coming back but yes some changes need to take place.

I once flagrantly fouled the **** out of alex jensen when he tried to dunk on me during a career day festivity out back of wendover high school... He, Drew Hensen and a redshirt that never suited up before he tranferred that I forget the name of came out there and had a student athlete booth during the career day. They were playing members of our high school team 3 on 5 and killing us. But I didnt get dunked on.

You bring in Blatt to a role he doesn't want, with the promise that he'll eventually get the role he does want.

Meanwhile he's supposed to work for the man he secretly knows will be let go at the end of the year, no matter how the team does.

You don't see how flawed this is?

This happens in the nba regularly. Tell you the truth, I think it's why Sidney Lowe is on staff. Coaches future replacements are hired all the time to an assistant position.

I'm going to need some examples of times where an assistant was brought in, the head coach was let go within a year and then the new assistant took over.

There's a fairly decent chance you're just trolling me with this Sidney Lowe nonsense. I'm hoping (in vain, probably) he gets let go this summer.

Speaking of Lowe, he's due in court on Thursday for his tax evasion charges.

It'll have to wait til tomorrow, my phone is too much of a pain to get your examples, but I'll get em. One place I'm sure just this year it was planned was with shaw in Indiana until Vogel proved his worth.

Ettore Messina comes to mind, who was brought to be mike brown's assistant even though brown's chair was shaky. Messina didn't like the NBA and went back to Europe before this season started, only for the lakers to fire brown after 5 games. i think it was very conceivable and possible that he was brought there to take over after a short adjustment period, and brown's quick firing only reinforce that suspicion - that he was not in the lakers' long term plans and that they were looking for a replacement in advance.

as for corbin, there shouldn't be much secrecy. he's under contract just for one last year. no need to complicate things - just don't renew his contract. that's enough of a message for both him and blatt. when you make the pitch to blatt, you just say that his first year as an assistant is to acclimate him, and that they are not going to renew corbin's deal. can you really see this team do so well next year that corbin gets extended? i hope as hell that won't happen (the extension part). i equally hope corbin is not extended BEFORE the start of the year to send a message that he's not a goner to the players.

Lindsay Hunter in PHX was brought in as an assistant but got the head coach job after they canned gentry.
