DJ will likely eventually take Wilsons spot in base as well as nickel DT. He may truly be a 3-down player.

Re: Datone Jones Discussion Thread
I think our defense really has a chance to be top 3-5 these next couple of years... we just need some things to go right for us that could very easily happen.
1. Perry needs to be able to consistently get pressure on the QB. He doesn't have to be Clay, but he has to be a legit starter. From what I saw when he was healthy, he is fully capable of doing this.
2. Jones needs to become a very good player. He definitely needs to impact passing downs and if he can become a legit 3 down guy, then that would be a huge boost.
3. Shields and Hayward need to stay the same or get better.
4. Bishop needs to stay healthy and be the player he used to be (or close to it).
5. Hawk needs to have at least a fringe starter level year.
6. We need some of the younger guys at CB/S to continue to grow.
I honestly think most, if not all, of those six things should be expected. I really like our talent on D... I'm hoping we get some surprises out of the young guys.

We have spent a lot of draft picks the last few years on defense, so I think we'll start to see significant returns this year and next.

In an ideal world Jones is our Justin Smith. It's rough, hoping he ends up comparing favorably to an eventual Hall of Fame player, but I think the defense is a star defensive lineman away from being elite.

I saw a few sites compare him to Justin Smith. If he is even close to that good, this defense will end up being ridiculous. (Barring crazy injuries)
