Re: Predict drummond stats for next season
He averaged 8/8/1.6 in only 21 minutes per as a rookie last season.
10/10/2 might be a disappointing season assuming he'll get starter's minutes next season.
I'll predict:
12 points
13 rebounds
2.2 blocks

With starter minutes the dude is gonna beast.
14.5 ppg
13 rpg
2.5 bpg
1.5 spg
DPOY
Hell, I might be projecting low here.
He was already averaging 11 ppg post-All Star break, with no offensive game and no plays being called for him. But he hits the offensive glass and runs the floor. And he's going to get stronger. Just look at what Dwight did his 2nd year averaging 15.8 pts & 12.5 rebs with no offensive game to speak of (granted he played over 36 min). And frankly Drummond looks more intimidating to me than Dwight did that early on. His physical tools are off the charts and he plays with more attitude.
As his confidence builds and his teammates confidence in him continues to grow the guy is going to develop into a force. And much quicker than anybody thought. It's only a matter of time before he surpasses Dwight as the best C in the NBA.

Re: Predict drummond stats for next season
At this point the only question is how much does his scoring game develop.
I don't think there's any doubt he'll be one of the league's leading rebounders and an elite shotblocker with full minutes. And that's more or less based on what we've ALREADY seen from him.
Assuming he doesn't get hurt or have some major regression I think Cow's predictions are probably close. 12 rebounds and a pair of blocks is entirely reasonable, but to be honest I feel like his scoring depends on his development and what kind of team is around him, and we simply don't know those two variables yet.

Youre kidding right? his per 36 stats with WILL FREAKIN BYNUM this year were 13 and 13. so he's gonna average 9 points a game with anyone but Calderon? Idiotic.

I have his rebounds a little lower than most people because, imo, playing next to Moose more often next year instead of Charlie Vs non rebounding a**, will give him less rebound opportunities.

Drummond played his best offensively when he was paired with Villanueva, daye, singler, Bynum. With this lineup, daye, cv, singler spread the floor and most of the time camping out at the three point line. Therefore, giving Bynum the abilIty to penetrate wide open lanes and feeding the ball to Drummond with a lot of space. Drummond thrived off of 1-on-1 matchups with other centers who couldn't match his athletic ability.
When Drummond was placed in the starting lineup with knight, stuckey, singler, Monroe. Drummond was not able to score many points bc there were 2-3 players crowding his area. As of right now, drummod does not have post moves to score on his own. Also, Monroe doesn't spread out, stuckey is not a 3-point threat and singler isn't either. And stuckey and knight are not as great as passers as Calderon.
Btw, per 36 doesn't take into account Drummonds conditioning issues and the foul trouble he will endure through the season. You can't look at per 36 from last year, too many confounders.

Re: Predict drummond stats for next season
With his work ethic I expect him to come back to camp with a jump hook. That's all he needs right now, a jump hook. If that's the case & he stays healthy I can easily see 15 & 10 ish which would be outstanding at 20 years old.

Re: Predict drummond stats for next season
A fair point, but I'd expect it to have the bigger impact on Monroes numbers. Drummond has a nose for the ball. He wants it. And at PF Monroe is likely to be playing a little further away from the basket.joseph mamah wrote:13.5 ppg

im thinking 10 and 10. More importantly i want to see improvement in his cardio and his defensive and offensive awareness.
i hope he puts in the work to get his body right this offseason.

Re: Predict drummond stats for next season
I'd expect at least 11/9 with 2 blocks, but I think he'll have a month or so when he puts up 17/13 and wins us some games on his own. I think a sophomore wall might creep up in Feb and bring his overall numbers down.
Biggest hope is he improves his understanding of NBA game speed and how to use his athleticism. And figures out how not to average a foul every five minutes. (By the way, the Dwight comps are out-- Drum fouls WAY more and has significant conditioning issues that D12 never had. Plus Dwight dominated summer league and then averaged 13/10 with 1.7 blocks his rookie year. He was more than a bit ahead of Drum developmentally.)

Dwight was better conditioned and played 30+ min his rookie year, but I wouldn't say he was developmentally ahead of him. Dude was super raw.

Re: Predict drummond stats for next season
Don't forget - the Pistons start next season with a new coaching staff and system. We won't likely be in sync as a team, since the young guys will take longer than a veteran team would to become cohesive. When players are tentative or don't understand their assignments without having to think about them, they'll be a step slow at both ends of the court, will make a lot more mistakes out there, and their individual statistics will suffer too.
Our young individual players might improve a lot as individual players, but might not be able to show that in their raw statistics. And for sure, the team might look disjointed again while they're working all this out.
Now, if we sign some really good veterans, that would help a lot.

Re: Predict drummond stats for next season
This is where Drummond is the anomaly. He didn't know what the hell was going on last year. He's playing off raw athletic ability and instinct. The change in coach/system is going to have a minimal impact on him because he wasn't really playing within any particular framework in the first place. It's going to have a bigger impact on guys like Moose & Knight who need to be more cerebral. Dre is just out there ballin'. You throw him an oop, he's gonna go get it. Ball in his area? He's gonna chase it down. These are hustle and reactionary plays, not set plays or schemes. And pick n'roll is pick n'roll; set a screen, move to the basket. Set a screen, move to the basket. Pretty much the same time after time in any system.Brapman wrote:Don't forget - the Pistons start next season with a new coaching staff and system. IF we were actually running plays for him then you'd have a better argument. If he was going to have the ball in his hands, then you'd be making sense. But the sort of hustle plays he's making transcend any system and any coach with half a brain will find ways to put him situations where he can succeed.
I am however buying the Sophomore wall argument. I could definitely see that happen, but I'm sure Arnie will be working on him.

Re: Predict drummond stats for next season
Valid points about Drummond.
However, it's the skill and rhythm aspects of the game that Drummond will be improving on that might suffer at first under a new coach. He's not always going to be out there only because he's an athlete.
