No way CP3 declines to sign that max contract to play with the Lakers. Pretty sure he's content with the Clippers. Besides, the backlash he would get from those Clipper "fans" would probably turn him off from the idea of going across the hall to the real Los Angeles NBA franchise.

First Post.

I agree that CP3 will likely remain with the Clips, however this is how it could work under the CBA for the Lakers to acquire him:

- Amnesty Kobe
- Metta signs elsewhere
- Waive and Stretch Nash's contract over 5 years
- Renounce rights in Duhon, Jamison, and Ebanks
- Sign Meeks, Clark, Morris, and Sacre for a total of roughly $7-8M

That would put the Lakers at roughly $38M in guaranteed money (including Nash's stretch) with only Howard's $20.5M left on the cap hold, but the team would only be able to field a roster of 8, so 4 rookie min. contracts of $850k each would be added ($3.4M), for a total of roughly $62M.

Nobody knows what the exact cap will be yet, but it'll likely be around $60M, so if all of the above happened PLUS Dwight Howard decided to sign for about $2M a year less, then it would be feasible for the Lakers to use Pau's expiring contract in a multi-team sign-and-trade to acquire CP3.

Again, not likely, but that's the closest thing to a realistic possibility I can think of.

even with a plan that has MWP opting out of his 8 mil deal and a plan that calls for the amnesty of kobe....unfortunately the last part is the most unrealistic:

it would be feasible for the Lakers to use Pau's expiring contract in a multi-team sign-and-trade to acquire CP3.

i can't think of a worse scenario for the clips. they'd be better off letting cp3 walk to houston or atlanta than to facilitate a trade where he goes to the lakers.

I hear ya. Valid point for sure, but do you think ORL really wanted to facilitate a trade to the Lakers last summer? ORL might hate the Lakers as much as any franchise, for good reason, and it happened nonetheless.

I feel like this thread is an invitation to trolls.

CP3 to the Lakers will never happen.
As like most of you all I was sad he was vetoed from us but it's time to seriously move on.

We're talking about whether it's at all possible.

As you know, everyone here understands it's not likely to happen but that shouldn't mean we can't discuss it at all. I'm new here but you need to relax. It's sports talk, hypotheticals are a major part of it.

The part where you said, "I feel like this thread is an invitation to trolls."

As if we aren't supposed to talk about CP3 for fear that a troll may show up and, heaven forbid, comment.

True lol. He could probably do Nike tours ,TNT appearances, and space jam 2.

You'd have to put Jordan23Forever and the rest of the Gen. Board on watch if he does Space Jam 2.

Kobe ~ MJ

Nate ~ Muggsy
Javale ~ Bradley (Thabeet's the tallest, but Javale would be way more entertaining)
Bosh ~ Ewing
Z-Bo ~ Chuck
Blake Griffin ~ LJ

This movie needs to be made lol
