Phil is as hollywood as it gets and is perfect for the Lakers in any capacity.

It seriously wont hurt Jimmy to just give him a title and a business card and tell him to go to Montana and when he comes up with something give a call.

This is not rocket science.

You honestly think a man with an ego like Phil's is gonna take a job for a business card? A man who's won 11 titles? No way.

Phil has burned a lot of bridges in this league. Charley Rosen once wrote an article years ago about that's why his assistant coaches never really get a chance (see: Shaw, Clemons, etc.). They say that's one of Phil's biggest weaknesses, his inability to groom an heir to the Triangle throne.

PJ wants to show people that his Zen team-building ideology and the Triangle Offense aren't just about MJ, Pippen, Shaq, and Kobe. They are legit and what those 11 titles are about.

It's his life's work. His legacy. It's his last remaining thing to prove.

Dude couldn't care less about a business card.

Not only do i not think Phil would be happy with a business card and title ..i know for a fact he wont be happy with that. However i used this figure of speech to make a point.

My point is....
Phil is clearly angling for a position inside the Laker organization
Why would he not?
Do you really think he is going to get married at his age only to spend most of his time on a plane going to another city to sleep alone in a hotel room? I dont think so.
He wants to stay in LA
He wants to work for the Lakers but not as simply a coach

The ball is in Jimmy's court (no pun intended)
I dont think Jimmy wants Phil around as he easily becomes the "LEADERSHIP" face of the franchise.
But if Jimmy gave Phil some sort of VP of player dev or special advisor to the GM or something like that, Phil would be content for now.

It would be the way Jimmy gets out of the dog house he is in

jim buss isn't going to throw mitch under the bus for phil jackson.

you bring in phil jackson in a legitimate role, u are essentially stripping mitch of any legitimate role he has on this team. the alternative is bringing in phil in a meaningless position, and i don't think phil or the lakers are about to waste their time with that.

Guys need to just get over the fact that Phil isn't going to come back. You have to let go of old things and start fresh, jeez. Are some of you going to hold on to Phil forever? It's pretty obvious Phil wants a front office job and doesn't really have interest to coach anymore

I agree with Doc...
The only way Phil comes back is if for whatever reason, Mitch's contract isn't renewed or he retires. Even then, it isn't a lock....
And if that happens, it likely means that a lot of the rumors about the Lakers FO that I thought were BS are actually true... And no amount of Phil Jackson Zen is going to take the bad feelings of that and losing Dr Buss and Mitch in the same season, for me.

At this point, I just think Phil wants to have more ties with the Lakers organization than just with Jeanie. He's been holding out of many opportunities that have recently opened up for him. I wouldn't be surprised if he came back to coach Kobe's final years and eventually settled into some sort of VP of basketball operations role.

And to cover all my bases, I can also see him being skipped over by Jimmy and remain tweeting from his computer.

a VP of basketball operations position for phil would seem like a massive joining of the minds in the lakers organisation.

i cant think of anyone better to replace jerry than phil (of course as VP of bball ops), taking on jimmy's old position and recreating the trinity.

(after writing that, in hindsight it sounds kinda fruity)

This has close to no chance of happening. Jim will not step aside for Phil to take his role and pay him for doing so as well. It's a clash of the egos, and unfortunately that's the way it most likely is going to be from here on and out. Besides, Phil is better suited as a coach anyways. For him to chase after a position in which he has had minimal experience in is absurd. If were hiring a new VP of Basketball Operations, I'd rather bring back Jerry West from Golden State before giving the job to Phil. Phil is great at what he is; a head coach.

No interest in doing? We just found out that he's willing to coach as long as he has some say in the roster.

Of course I want Phil back, especially with Dwight locked up. I would think Phil is dying to coach Howard and further cement his legacy with another elite talent.

With that said, I do not see it happening, but you never know. If Dantoni comes out and sucks again, along with saying stupid crap after games, the push for Phil will reach an all-time high.

Especially given the fact that now he is married and is just kicking it in SoCal when he is not in the mountains.

There is still one more circus to come.
