Further evidence that there is still a market for medium-quality vets on medium-sized deals. This is why AA, Meer, and BBD should each return either a pick or a decent young player with Harkless/Harris potential.

except that I doubt Mayo gets more than about $5mil/yr or so, about the MLE. AA/Nelson each make $2-3mil more than that.

Minne is in an od situation because they probably will not attract Mayo because not many players want to play in the cold. They may have to overpay to keep their own free agents and then there I the matter of Brandon Roy. He is an expiring contract and their best asset to acquire a SG of they miss on Mayo.

Ideal situation for them would be to trade Roy & their pick to Orlando for Afflalo. Then they at least know they have a player that wants to be there (or has to stay there lol)

Given the hype surrounding this incoming freshman class, Smart will have a very very hard time increasing his draft stock. He would have been a top 3 pick this year. Hard to not fall a few spots, unless he takes it up honest season. H worst part is he could have a bad year and have his stock plummet like that of the USC quarterback who was also a smarty pants thinking going b ack to school was the right move. Now how he looks like the biggest idiot in the room.

It is if your a athlete, they have a limited time as an athlete might as well make all they can now, and go back to school during the off season.

Got to disagree with you BMP. If we aren't a top lottery team next year the season will be a fail. Glad we have a GM that will be going that route and not yours. I highly doubt Henny goes for any free agents anytime soon, he is going to keep drafting players and getting young assets. We need to land a superstar in the draft either this year or next, and it seems like this year will be difficult with how crappy this draft is.

I doubt the Magic get a superstar either draft. The odds are against them. I am also against forcing my players into a frustrating losing mentality. Thus, the proven way to win is by obtaining talent whenever you can get it, not by losing money and chemistry while praying to win a superstar. You either take it when you can or gamble. I take it when I can and that is Free Agency.

Well, If getting bounced in the first round every year is your idea of winning then I guess you're right. Orlando's not making the playoffs next year nor should they. They players aren't going to develop a losers mentality, every team needs superstar and the best way to do that this year and next is through the draft. There are no free agents who would player or that are worth the money.

These next two years are exactly the time to sign players because our cap space will get used up when we have to extend Vooch and Harris in 2015 and Harkless in 2016.

These next two years are exactly the time to avoid signing long contracts, or making a run for the playoffs. It's been 1 year of rebuilding, we still need to evaluate the talent we have, and the talent we will receive (draft picks/trades) but it is not time to waste our cap space on signing rentals.

Vuc/Harris/Harkless will be paid accordingly to what Hennigan believes they are worth in 2015/2016, there's no point in reducing the amount of money we can offer by signing free agents....

Pay Tyreke less than what OJ Mayo got?? Not gonna happen lol. OJ was coming off of two pretty bad years. Tyreke is coming off of a very good year.

I would pay Tyreke what AA is making. On this team in our current situation? Maybe not. But Tyreke is 4 years younger and is putting up better stats across the board with better efficiency in less minutes. Not to mention Tyreke played with a bunch of ball hogs while AA was on the worst team in the league that was just begging for a vet to step up. Tyreke's 18.1 PER versus AA's 13.0 PER kinda says it all. On this team with the direction we are going giving out another long-term deal isn't ideal. But I would definitely be surprised if Tyreke doesn't get AA money as a RFA.

Here's the thing that people need to understand about Afflalo. The expectations of him to come in and become our next superstar were unfair. That's not what he is or what he ever will be. People were hoping for the next T-Mac for goodness sake. Afflalo is a mid-level player and gets paid like a mid-level player. Not a max player. So having to live up to the expectations of a max player were unfair from the start. He came to a team dearth of talent and his numbers suffered because of it. He's a guy who is effective when he can pick his shots. But he is not a volume scorer by nature. He's a #3 option or #4 option on a good team. Sure on certain nights he can be more than that, but not consistently. The reason why his efficiency numbers were down was because he was in an increased role this year. Maybe he learns from it or maybe he just needs a strong cast around him again.

But either way, unless he is traded (which I don't see realistically happening), then Tyreke Evans is not coming here. Evans is a below average PG and better suited as a combo guard. There's just no money for him, no spot for him and I don't think his prima donna attitude is a fit for what we're trying to build. This isn't a "me" team.

I wasn't even talking about the actual interview....did you see him running the point? Wow.

As far as demeanor, by most accounts he has a bit of Rondo/Westbrook personality (on court), in which he gets so into it (compeditor/hate to lose) that he can actually rub his teamates the wrong way and occationally get into little verbal spats at times.

Thats good and bad i guess.

Yeah, I knew what you were talking about. I was just adding my 2 cents to supplement your statement. He was the best PG on the floor in the US vs World game imo, or at least had the best game. He seems to understand the position very well and he's making the right plays. I'd really like to see the measurements on this kid. It was just the first time I heard him talk. I think PG requires a lot mental fortitude and good instincts, so I like to probe that in those prospects a little more than at other positions.
