I'll agree that its highly unlikely, but if we can snag one of the 2 which is more likely, the chances of the other following dramatically increase. We become a instant playoff team by adding those 2 players. if moose continues to develop and knight and dre can show any sort of improvement down the stretch. We could upset teams.

There aren't any realistic free agents to go after this off season.

We have stars that are in this "win now" mode willing to pull a "LeBron James" on us.

The rest of the lot include old vets and guys who aren't at positions Detroit needs (Defensive swingman with 3pt shot).

The realistic thing the Pistons should do is re-sign Jose. Him and maybe Bynum. Hopefully the team can trade for some shooters that don't wear stone shoes on defense. From there the Pistons have a shot at improving dramatically.

Until then, we're forced to watch a team full of undersized guards, slow forwards and an overall lack of athleticism and perimeter shooting.

Agree w EZ. It's great to have cap space but what a sucky year of free agents. Dumars will really have to use his imagination to get the right type of players. I doubt we will be overwhelmed. We may just get a couple of solid role players.

IMO, Gordon isn't worth Knight, Stuck and JJ. Don't people complain about Knight's ability to play as a 'true PG'? Gordon would probably be worse, he's a SG not a PG. Also, I've mentioned before that although I like J Smoove, he simply doesn't fit at Detroit.

My free agent targets:

PG - Jack or Augustine
SG - none (take one in lottery)
SF - Aminu or Brewer
PF - Clark or Hickson
C - Blatche, Speights, or Kaman

Not a free agent, but EG(one of our potential targets?) has had another surgery(per WT). This time on the ankle.
I would stay away from the guy.

That's a good list Pete, just remove Clark and Augustine (they're awful) and remove Jack (he is not finishing his career in Detroit) and I agree with everyone else.

I like that list for backups, but if this team intends to fight for a top 4 seed someday, need to target at least one elite player. Otherwise, this team will be the Bucks for the next 5 years.

A bit more realistic than other posts (including mine). I know Iggy and Mayo and CP3 would look great in a Piston uniform, but I doubt any of those are going to happen.

Just got done complimenting Piston Pete for his realistic list, but I must admit, I agree 100% with your statement that we need an elite player. A championship team probably needs 3 elites and a total solid rotation of 8-9 players. We have 1 elite (Monroe), 1 likely elite (Drummond), and 1 solid rotation player (Knight). If we could get at least 1 elite player this offseason, I trust Joe to fill in the rest of the roster.

Aminu is still developing. He's still extremely young (22?) and could develop into a "plus" SF with elite athleticism, rebounding, and defense. And he's young enough to grow with our other core guys, Knight, Monroe, and Drummond.

If we get a stud SG at #7, we won't need much scoring from the 3. He'd be a perfect fit next between a scoring PF (Monroe) and a scoring SG (#7 pick).

Aminu is my #1 FA target this offseason.

If we get him, we'll have this LONG-TERM: Knight, #7, Aminu, Monroe, and Drummond

What we'll need is complementary pieces around them to come off the bench. Next on the priority list should be a backup PG and a stretch-4 to bring off the bench (as Monroe can get a fair amount of C minutes as well).

Lastly, we'll hopefully look to sign an emergency C (behind Dre and Moose, but ahead of Kravtsov) and maybe another wing for depth.

That's a cool list and Aminu is ok...But everyone else outside of Aminu and Jack wouldn't improve our team...We need some good players on our team, no more bums...

Agree but the only problem is finding an "elite" SG/SF that's willing to come over and play in Detroit. I don't know if that player exists in the 2013 FA class - unless we want to take a gamble on someone like Tyreke Evans. Which is why I like Piston Pete's plan of growing talent in-house with Aminu and our pick this year. Maybe we wait for 2014 and make a play for Paul George?
